Every year at this time, our kiddos’ school has an annual fall festival cleverly named Hoot Scoot and Boogie. {Their mascot is an owl, therefore the cleverness.}
This year to give back monetarily and as a service to the event, we decided to be sponsors. We were also able to represent The Handmade Home, and spread the word about our business locally as an added bonus… so that was also terrifyingly fun.
This year, our weapon of choice?
Free Cotton Candy! The crew was ready to go.
We’re beginning our third year in Franklin, and looking back, we’re coming at it with full, thankful hearts.
We still remember the first year we attended, we came straight from our fixer upper, finished painting for the day, as soon as the kids hopped off the bus. We still weren’t in, a few weeks out from our official move in date. And it was quite the challenge… but we remembered being in awe at such an amazing community, and knew we were thrilled to be a part of it after waiting for so long.
While it can be easy to feel like we’ve started all over, we also feel like we’ve come so far and learned so much. We’re really just focused on how grateful we are.
We’ve learned that we couldn’t do what we do without amazing friends. Not all pictured here, it took lots of different little teams to help us pull it off. We can’t thank them enough for their help.
This is our shot at the end of the night, covered in cotton candy crystals, by the way. My earrings will never be the same again. I’m still finding remnants of cotton candy in random places. I had no idea how messy it can get… but totally worth it.
Our fabulous tent was made by the amazing Logo Brands – you should definitely check them out for all your tailgating/fanfare/ just about anything you can think of, needs. Seriously – check out their site for some amazing finds.
Basically just about anything you see with your fave team’s logo on it is probably made by them. These are more amazing friends that we’re truly grateful for.
I’ve learned that putting myself out there is absolutely terrifying for me, and that I’d rather Jamin do the ‘promo’ stuff. I’m more comfortable in a place of service, covered in said cotton candy crystals- or whatever that looks like in the moment. He was passing out little postcards we’d made, while I served up what everyone was really there for.
We’ve learned that we basically couldn’t do this without each other, since Jamin’s strengths are my weaknesses, and vice versa.
We’ve learned that we’re grateful for our children’s friends, and their amazing parents. These are the relationships that grow and are beyond essential to their childhood. We adore each and every one of them.
We’ve learned that swirling cotton candy on a cotton candy machine definitely requires a learning curve…
But that it still tastes exactly the same.
And that you get better with time… kind of.
If this whole Handmade Home thing doesn’t pan out, we can always join the circus. I guess I’ll try that after becoming a professional ceiling-planker. We’re proven we’re pretty good at that, too. It’s always good to know we have versatile options. ;}
Our kids were thrilled to choose the winner from the participants we had that night, on Saturday morning. We are super excited to give away one free hour in-home design consult to a sweet local patron who stopped by our cotton candy booth and entered that night!
The winner is being contacted, so congratulations!!!
We’re sharing more behind-the-scenes with what we do, and moments like this that leave us grateful and exhausted all at the same time, are definitely part of it.
We’ve come so far and we can’t wait to see what the future holds, but right now we’re just really grateful for the present.

Sounds like a successfully fun time was had by all. Cotton candy is one of my weaknesses but always buy it, never made it before. I can imagine how messy it can be!
