Summertime. When things slow down, and we can actually breathe. Because we’re not really drowning in activities and homework and all the obligations… It feels too early to be talking about summer. Weren’t we just at January? But it’s our favorite time of year, so we’re not really complaining. There’s just always a few mixed emotions around here with another school year under our belts. I know all the parents out there can totally relate.
Family dinners are one of our forever favorite traditions. And while we aren’t really fussy people, and we do like to keep it real, we also enjoy the occasional celebration of the every day.
There’s something about a fresh tablescape with flowers that just screams celebration. And in the very best way possible.
We love simple layers and fresh hues and pieces that aren’t precious.
Our kids are in that perfect season of tween/early teen-dom. We get to stand back and look at our handiwork {all whilst hoping we’re not totally blowing it} and really admire the people they’re becoming. We’ve loved every season but I think this one is our very favorite yet.
So all things tablescapes can be nice without being perfect or pricey. So on the table side of things, it means we can break out glass tumblers and plates. But it was dad who spilled the last cup of water at the table, and that means we don’t fuss over spilled anything. Because it happens.
That means layering simple pieces with melamine and bright colors and pattern.
And the kids absolutely love it.
For this tablescape, we went with a few unexpected hues of lavender, mint and coral.
One of my very favorite elements are flowers mixed from the local supermarket, and our own yard.
Because those don’t have to be fussy, either.
But it does say celebrate! And every day in summer feels like a celebration.
Even if it’s rainy and we stay in our pajamas.
It’s a celebration of freedom. And time slowing down.
So cue the fireflies and skinned knees from playing outside too long, the barbecues and fireworks.
Night swims that count as bathing, and family dinners that hold the very best of those sweet conversations.
Summer and childhood are fleeting, and this summer will be a bittersweet reminder of that.
We plan to soak it up in the very best way possible.
These sweet colors remind me a little of my own childhood. And dinner at my grandmother’s house.
Wasn’t I just ten?
So time slow down. And in the meantime, we’re truly loving those easy family dinners that really celebrate the simple things.
What are some sweet ways that you celebrate with your family and loved ones and friends this summer?
We’d love to hear! Thank you so very much for dropping by today for our simple summer tablescape. Cheers to all of you.
