Let’s just go ahead and settle this now. I’m not a big “what I wore” kinda gal.
I wasn’t always that way. This one time, like, ten years ago, I was kind of big deal in the I-think-I’m-cute-world also known as the alternate universe of my head. And then I had babies. I’m just too busy to pay attention.
The great people of Montgomery are pretty darn lucky they don’t see me on a regular basis hovering over the latest discounted cereal collection of Walmart in my sweat pants, t-shirt and sports bra ensemble. This being, of course, while I push all three kiddos around in a grocery cart and scream in short non abusive bursts for them to stop pummeling one another with the cream cheese and tampons. It’s just how I roll.
I always have paint on my clothes, and since I bore the aforementioned cart riding gladiators, this my-hair-is-suddenly-curly-but-not-the-awesome-beachy-kind-and-now-I-have-to-pull-it-up because-I-stuck-my-finger-in-a-light-socket issue, makes me want to pull a Sinead O’Connor. Yep. That’s right. Knock a couple of teeth out, and I’m basically one step away from being a barefoot walking stereotype on Nate.
However, I said all that, with my big fat unnecessary introduction, to say that I received quite a few emails asking what I wore and other various whatnots of the fashion category. So..without further ado…my take on the following clothing choices. {Read: it’s more fun this way.}
What do you do when you’re on your way back from Walt Disney World, and you receive a phone call from a producer? You freak out, of course. That was Thursday night. We filmed the House Proud segment Monday morning. Oh, and in between all of that, we finished up the living room.
So, I grabbed these little gems up that Sunday night. Why? Because I’m my own worst enemy, and I literally {felt like} I had nothing I could wear that was worthy of the national television variety with those upper class city folk type people. I was in oh-my-word-this-is-really-happening-grab-something-cute-and-preferrably-on-sale-mode. These jeans should be known as the world’s skinniest skinny jeans. They’re make-you-suck-it-in-and-slap-yo-mama-for-giving-you-those-birthing-hips skinny. But they’re now my go-to fall skinny jeans. I scored them at a local Francescas and the sweater at a Banana Republic. It was literally all I had time to shop for, but I was lucky to score some basic, simple easy pieces, that were totally flexible for future use, since I was splurging.
{Basically, I consider anything over twenty dollars a splurge. In the process, I probably ended up dropping what normal people spend on their clothes. Maybe they won’t have holes in them after the first wash! Score!}
And for my favorite part…
I will always be a shoes girl. And no, you couldn’t see these on the video, so technically, no one really asked me about them. But I thought it made for some fun shareage. I scored these Big Buddhas on sale, and they’re my fave transitional shoes. Oh, and that necklace? I knew I needed something long, so I totally pulled apart an already existing one, and threw a disassembled earring on the end of it ten seconds before. I’m fancy like that.
So now for the main event…What on earth do you do when you need something asap with certain specifications in mind? Must avoid ten pound bulge {…Uh…those were myspecifications at least. I guess a little extra help from my spanx is always a good thing.} I went shopping with one of my BFFS, {Always go armed with a BFF whenever you need to do some serious shopping} and happened on into The Hue. For those of you who live locally, it’s a great little shop, with some really helpful gals. They were totally wonderful, and helped me pair up this dress {Theme Label} with some great accessories.
Meet Jenny and Anna! My new shopping favorita fasionista advisonistas. {Believe it or not, I just made that up. } Seriously, if you live anywhere near Montgomery, these gals are the ones to visit for a special treat or original gift idea.
I knew I wanted something a traditional, but with an edge. That felt like me. And let me just say…I love. this. dress. It’s super comfy, cinches at the waist for a flattering fit, and the best part? I pulled it out of my carry-on and didn’t even have to iron it before the show. I now feel that I can never wear this again, for fear that someone may see me in it. And they will have seen it on the blog, and think that I must not own any clothes, or else I would be wearing something else. Isn’t that the way every female mind works? Meh. No judging. It’s true.
Again, it all comes back to the shoes. I’d originally planned to do yellow accents. Because I mean, hello. That would rock Nate’s face off, and it’s my fave color combo. But alas, yellow was out of season and I was despairing…and then these babes walked into my life. Look out, Dorothy. {yeah, I just wrote that, too.}
Confession: When I came home with these in hand, Jamin asked how much I spent. “250,” I said sheepishly, as I stared down at the floor, ever so shamefully. When he started climbing the walls, I was all, “JK!” and gave him the much lower real price. I then thanked him in advance for my birthday present(s). I do that every year. Starting in September. I’m a December baby. Woe is me with the once a year presents gig. I milk it.}
Trivia factoid of the day: the great gals at The Hue helped me pair this bracelet and earrings ensemble with the dress. Apparently Nate’s mom makes some awesome jewelry pieces that are similar to this style, and Nate asked me about it. You guys should check out her site, because she’s quite the impressive artist. Obviously, creativity runs in the fam!
So, that’s it. A rando story about how I was once cool in the magic bubble also known as my head, I’m now a run down mom slob, and the pressure magic of television with some awesome sweet gals who helped me turn it all around just in time to meet the handsomest guy in television. Yes please.
The. End.

I just happened to be watching Nate the day you were on and didn’t hear who you were but recognized your house and when you said Handmade Home I realized I had just blogged about your cute house a week or two before! You did a great job on the show!

Both outfits are adorable. Dont’ even get me started on the shoes. I’m a December birthday girl too and what a drag!! You handled it well. 🙂 I’m glad you’re not a professional “what I wore” type person, because you are just so darned cute anyway, I don’t think we could take it. I think I’m going to print and frame the vintage snarky picture at the top-three kids and many years later, BOY! do i know that feeling!!!! Argh.

Lovely! {Looks exactly like something I would wear.}
Every time I see that shot of you and Nate sitting together, I feel like he’s going in for a kiss! Cracks me up every time.

Send me those shoes. Please. I can give them a good home with every advantage. A closet of their own. What else would they like?

man, i really want to come to montgomery now so I can buy that navy dress! i loved it the minute i saw you in it!
just wish i had somewhere to where it. I, like you, hang out in workout clothes most of the day.
oh and i am so glad that someone else has the “i used to have straight hair until i had a baby and now it has weird, kinky waves that are impossible to straigten” problem. I thought it was just me!! I have found a recent solution though. search sock bun curls on pinterest. it seemed too good to be true, but it totally works. not only does it give some nice, soft curls but it totally gets rid of those weird waves i aquired post-baby. oh and it only takes 30 seconds! score!
