In January of this past year, we were super pumped to share some fun kids clothes organization labels with you guys. We’ve been all about the systems in our home, and making it work for us. We loved the combo of fun colors, and a great way to organize while enlisting their help, with sight words.
Cleanliness in sorting + object lessons =Winning.
We were so excited because we’d found a system… we’re always wondering how to best organize our children’s clothes.
But you may remember that right after that, we decided to do the family closet all the way, and ditch even their dresser storage. It was a great way to free up their spaces, so that they could organize their own belongings, and move everything into our closet. It simplified the whole laundry folding/getting ready system, and worked well with our floor plan/kiddo’s ages.
Nearly ten months later, and we still love it. Clutter be gone.
No more clothes taking up all the spaces.
We had this great little system going on.
This photo of the past still makes me cringe.
And makes me feel like a little bit of a clothes horse. The funny part is, I’m anything but a fashionista. I just had trouble purging.
We went from barely able to maintain a closet for two, (and wanting to cry every time I had to get ready) to a great closet for five with everything we could need.
We even had the little sprogs putting up laundry, to help maintain the space on their own. This totally works, we said. All of our laundry probs were solved. We were stoked. Cue the bon bon eating whilst catching up on Days.
But just kidding. Because a. who still watches Days, and b. as it turns out, you can’t really have your cake and eat it too. It made for sloppy cubbies and mismatched spaces, with no direction. Good intentions and all that mess. Cue mass hysteria and confusion when Emerson stole Malone’s tshirts. (I mean, Perry the platypus is kind of irresistible, no?) I was in total denial.
So I spent the majority of this weekend cleaning out the closet, because we were suddenly overwhelmed by all. of. the. clothes. It happens with three growing babes, but a kid can only use so many shirts.
There’s just something about this season every year, that makes me want to purge it all. We were going to do this little transition sorting, and then we realized it would help a ton if the kids knew exactly where their things needed to go. Duh. The labels just needed to be a little smaller.
Ahhhh. It was like a breath of fresh air. We just printed and then zapped with our favorite laminator in the whole entire world and we were good to go! No more confusion. Even our kindergartner can look for his name, and find what he needs. (The whole two boys sections thing was throwing him for a loop. And let’s be honest… us too.)
Even if the folding of the clothes isn’t always picture perfect. (Reality) It’s simplified things yet again!
At least we’re keeping things off that floor, and now they know where all of the things go. {Read: we just donated so much I’m never shopping for clothes again. They can wear their size nines when they’re thirteen because I’m officially closet-traumatized for life.}
It’s just a little something that goes to prove that sometimes even great ideas that work for your family, need a little fine tuning.
Our little labels were personalized, but we decided to include them in smaller sizes for you guys, too – In case you needed them for whatever reason. You’ll find most of the labels we used before, alongside some different options as well. So you can even mix and match with our old ones, and personalize them as you need. Everyone’s set up is different -we just hope to help!
Just click, and print! {boys 1, boys 2, girls 1, girls 2, girls 3, girls 4} Mix and match with our other labels, here!
We hope these little happys help with any confusion at your home, too!
We wanna see your freebies! Simply tag your photos of those freebies in action around your home or parties with #thehandmadehomefreebies on instagram. We’d love to see!
Have an inspired day!

I am in the middle of a clothing vortex over here… I have 2 boys, 22 months apart. I have an issue with sizing and storage. When my oldest grows out of something, I know it won’t be long for my little one to fit into it, so I throw it into a basket at the top of his closet. I also have a problem with buying bigger sizes (if I get a good sale, end of season stuff, etc) and then hoarding that size until my oldest is ready to wear. It’s all getting out of control. The sheer volume of clothing is overwhelming… Do you do this with your 2 boys? How do you organize it all? Right now I have no less than 4 sizes of clothing taking over the bedrooms… HELP!!

Hey Kelly! I get it- it’s so tricky. Malone has even missed out on some of Aiden’s clothes because I’ve forgotten them in the past- it gets crazy and frustrating. My boys aren’t as close in age as yours, but here’s something I’ve done in the past: tupperware containers, clearly marked and stored in our attic. At least they’re out of the way until I need them. (Just don’t forget they’re up there- thus the clearly marked) also, the cubbies are working well (the ones you see in our family closet) as well. I have a special section for clothes aiden has grown out of that malones close to fitting in to, that I set aside and keep an eye on to use when I need them.
At the end of the day it’s different for everyone but it’s what’s helped us stay on top of it all- it can be so overwhelming. I hope a few of these help- I just found that when they grow out of things so fast, drawers weren’t really helping unless they’re clearly labeled. Let me know if you have any questions- I hope you find a system that works for your family!

Loved the post – and at the risk of missing the point- tell me your are NOT getting RID of those BOOTS! They are the ones I’ve pinned a 100-times over as a need. If you wear anything between a 7 and an 8 1/2 – I’m your girl.
But in all seriousness – I’ve been pouring over your archives, inspiring myself to become a Less is More person. So thank you for helping me become a better person.
