The other day, I was a little late getting my hair done. Like, long overdue. My roots were awful, my ends were dead… and it was time for a total rebound in the I-feel-pretty, oh-so-pretty department. Maybe it was my last experience in the salon chair that prevented me from making one sooner. Maybe it was the fact that I needed to find someone new after moving and that takes time. Maybe it was the fact that I looked like Mufasa stuck his finger in a light socket.
Maybe it was all of the above.
I kept putting off appointments because at the end of the day, I didn’t have the time. But then when I finally went, I was practically ecstatic with joy. You know that moment when you find the perfect hair person? Because I feel like I lucked out that it happened so quickly. What a difference a hair appointment can make. Afterwards, I kept swishing my hair around in the car, asking Jamin if he was thrilled to be married to a hair model. From there, it quickly escalated {or digressed?} from hair model to “He totally lucked out and married up” complete with dramatical hair tosses in his general direction every time I spoke.
Mawwiage. He wasn’t really amused. But it’s the little things y’all.
These new windows feel like that. I want to dance and tra-la-la through a field of flowers and happily display my new haircut, in the form of a house and it’s new windows. Because the fabulous Window World came to our house last Wednesday, and let’s just say the sights and sounds of progress after waiting through all the ‘fun’ of construction permits… is a gloriously beautiful thing.
I mean y’all… even the neighbors are saying nice things.
The new windows are only the beginning of the outside transformation. We plan to replace that siding and so much more.
But I kept saying it felt like our house got a hair cut. A subtle, elegant haircut that adds a lot of wow, where people aren’t really sure what’s quite different… but they know something major has happened. Actually, it’s more like botox. So this is basically the time our house got a botox treatment in the form of some amazing new windows, and we were there to watch the whole shebang.
Side note: Did you see how my mind just went from drawing a metaphor on haircuts and went all the way to botox? Thanks for following that one. It’s how I roll.
It was a beautiful, easy process. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, Window World. Because if you’ve been reading our progress, you know we were waaaaaaaayyyyyy overdue for something that’s beautiful and easy. That may sound hokey, but it couldn’t be more true.
I could cry.
Oh wait. I already did.
As soon as they went in, the heavenly lights came down. I was even lucky enough to capture one with my camera. I should have had video on at the time as well, because there was a host of angel voices in beautiful harmonic unison. And this is before they even installed the trim.
Yes, I do have a flair for the dramatic. But seriously. It’s funny… I should have known, but the original house color was a nice UPS brown. Apparently, UPS brown is a thing that follows us. And we were so curious about the process, we were thrilled to be there to capture it all.
Out with the old…
And in with the new.
It happened fast.
And we were thrilled that while we plan to do a ton with the houses exterior as soon as we possibly can… #thanksseptic. It didn’t touch anything for that in-the-meantime phase, until we’re able to get to it. This was major plus for us.
The amazing installers were very careful to work around our existing siding. It was a non invasive, quick process. Our fairy god mother {Window World} waved their magical wand and gave the princess a night at the ball. Botox. Uh, we mean new windows.
This is going to sound kinda crazy, but you know what else we were surprised by? How much larger our windows look. Which made the room look bigger. Kind of like getting bangs, so they make your eyes pop. Yes, I’m still going with this metaphor. I will not let it die. My level of excitement is directly proportional to all the metaphors.
Good bye, old storm windows. #Ew.
It’s less lines. A more open, simplified, streamlined feel.
We’re envisioning a finished space with the open windows for an amazing cross ventilation in the fall. We can’t wait to show you how we use our screens, too. Usually I’m anti screens, but these are so attractive, and blend in so well with the windows, they’re obviously staying. They only span half of the window so they don’t take away from anything aesthetically. We can even raise said screens to the top part, and lower the top sections of the windows to let a little air in that way. And actually enjoy the fresh air without running away from wasps because I may or may not do that.
I’m serious when I say it’s the little things. We’re so excited.
Jamin’s just thrilled in general about that electricity bill that is sure to rock our faces off soon.
Once the initial widows were removed, and the new windows in, the outer casing {to make it energy efficient} was installed. It was smooth sailing from there.
And as quick as one…
two…
Three.
Again… still lots to be done on the exterior side… but what a difference new windows make.
Now all I can see are those shutters. Those are next. HA!
We’re so very thrilled for a cleaner, more cohesive look.
With energy efficiency to boot.
And something safe, for our children.
And long lasting.
With so many benefits.
Finally… something easy.
Who knew new windows were that simple?
It started with a consultation and quote, we ordered, and they came. They were installed. {And if you missed our post on replacing windows, check out the why, here.} Seriously… I was scrambling for my camera by the time they were halfway finished. And I didn’t have to panic over the siding or what the process was. It was effortless. Finally.
Something effortless.
Our heroes – the Window World Installation Team! {I have no idea if that’s their official name. But they’re all brothers and we thought they were pretty great, and this sounded official.} So then they humored us and smiled for a photo.
We couldn’t be more thrilled. We can’t wait to show you more of the inside, and how they work with our interiors and new trim… as well as how we plan to use them… and a peek at the rest of the way the outside will look, down the line.
Oh, and if anyone is wondering what we did with those old windows?
No worries. They will have their place in the future, too, with a charm of their own. Greenhouse anyone? I need a new, year-round place for the tomatoes and zinnias that I so love.
So stay tuned.
Have an inspired day!

We replaced our 60 yo steel framed Windows last spring. Game changer! They make the whole house look cleaner and newer. Paint is next.

I had no idea the process was so basic – I’ve always thought it was much more disruptive. So neat to follow along and thank you for the real posts! Glad you guys are seeing progress
