We’re thrilled to check in today with one of our favorite little life hacks on the planet.
Okay, life hack is probably being a little too proud of ourselves, so we’ll just go with tips. But one of our favorites is all things flowers and today, we’re sharing one bouquet, 5 ways. Along with some of our favorite little secrets for the best flower styling ideas, by showing you five different ways we’ve used them around our home.
Best source for flowers
Our biggest life hack is that flowers don’t have to be expensive. This is literally one bouquet from the local grocery store. Your next dinner party / hostess gift / happy spot in your home can cost you a fraction, and look just as fabulous.
Once you’ve learned that little secret, here’s how we styled it five ways, along with some of our favorite tips!
1. Big and bold.
We love big bouquets of pretty flowers. There’s something to be said about those first sprigs of spring that look so inviting in a big, chunky vase.
One of our decorating go-tos, once we find that perfect {affordable} floral arrangement, is putting them in a big, generous vase. We always keep one on hand, since the vase alone makes the arrangement, and we love the way they look. Find one similar, here. Easy and care free and colorful is our vibe and we’re sticking with it.
Tip: Look for the most colorful assortments.
We love bold colors and the bright spots they add to any space. You don’t have to over think it to have a pretty arrangement. People actually ask us all the time where we find our flowers. And it’s always this non-glamorous answer: the grocery store.
2. Spring tablescape
Add charm and delight to any table in the most unexpected and beautiful of ways.
This one screams spring, with lemonade and fun on the horizon. I don’t know about you guys, but I need a little of that in my life right now.
Tip: Consider adding something to your water for character, like slices of lemon on the edges of your vase, or apples in the fall. Why? Because you can, that’s why. While you’re at it, do as I say and not as I do, and remove any leaves that may be touching the water, to prolong the life of your beautiful arrangement. This will keep the rot from happening sooner, and it will smell fresher, longer.
I can think of a few grosser things, but rotting vase water is maybe towards the top of my list for unpleasant household smells.
Rain rain go away… I’m officially ready for spring.
3. Go small.
Consider the opposite of our first tip, and use a few flowers at a time. Tiny vases are the cutest thing ever, and add a little bit of happy in every space.
Little pieces go a long way.
Consider giving little jars and vases as gifts to brighten someone’s day.
Bonus? Your bouquet goes a little further if you do this in multiple spaces. Happy little flowers everywhere.
There’s something pretty irresistible about a grouping of small flowers and tiny sprigs in a window!
Tip: All flowers are beautiful. That being said, drop some of the “plain jane” ones to make them look nicer, or use them in fun ways.
For instance – carnations are cuter when the stems are cut shorter, and in one simple bunch, all on their own.
4. Unexpected Color.
Vary your vase colors, to add a little extra color and personality. Yes, our home holds a lot of ridiculous accessories. So we keep them on hand to add a little unexpected personality.
Tip: We love the grocery store for our number one source since we’re definitely not botanists. But you can also add yard/garden flowers when you can. This just makes it more unique. Said stores usually carry greenery too. Add a few bunches, for more lush.
5. Aim for symmetry + simplify with solids.
I think I’m officially the anti-florist. In fact, real life florists are rolling their eyes at me, right now. But when I’m arranging flowers in a vase, it helps to simplify the entire look, by going with a solid vase. There’s something calming and simple about it.
Tip: Use tape in a grid pattern, trim the edges where it might show, and pop your flowers in, one at a time.
I think you’re supposed to use florist tape, but I’m not fancy like that, so here we are.
I love how official these flowers feel in our pool room addition!
So fun and fancy. Or something like that.
So there you have it! One bouquet five ways, and a few little tips sprinkled in, too.
