It’s only a few days ’til all things holidaisical, and ’tis the season for all things warm and fluffy.
So today, we thought we would share the best homemade bread in the history of ever.
We’ve shared this before, because it’s just that marvelous. But if this bread was cast in The Hunger Games, it would have been the leading role. Peeta would have never burned and thrown said bread to Katnis. It’s just that good. Sorry not sorry, Katnis.
It’s the perfect little project for kiddos, too… they can definitely help in the mixing. And we threw in a bonus dip for it of sorts, it’s so simple and takes it over the top for the perfect holidaisical addition to your table.
Without further ado… one of our very favorites ever.
So here’s our fave recipe! No fancy shmancy bread machine required. Stir or shake together in a glass pint jar:
• 1 cup warm water
• 1 pkg. yeast.
Add to yeast mixture and then stir or shake together:
• 3/4 c sugar + 3 T potato flakes
Cover jar loosely with lid and let it sit 2-4 days to ferment.
Pour fermented mixture into a large bowl.
In the now empty jar, stir or shake together:
• 1.5 cups warm water + 1 pkg yeast + 2 T sugar
Add the new yeast mixture to fermented mixture in bowl.
Stir into bowl mixture:
• 1/2 c corn oil + 1 T salt + 6 cups of bread flour.
* For a fluffier mixture, I use a combination of 3 cups of white and 3 cups of wheat.
Generously grease a VERY large bowl. Put dough in bowl and turn over until all is greased. Cover with greased oil or waxed paper and let rise about 8 hrs or until doubled. After the dough has risen, {the fun part} punch it down, and knead on a floured board. Divide it into 3 parts and knead each part. {Your kids will love playing with this dough!} Shape and put the portions into 3 greased pans. OR, roll into generous little balls, and place into muffin tins. Cover each pan with greased foil or waxed paper and let it rise 4-5 hours or until “swollen”
Bake loaves at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. {This may vary based on your location} Turn out onto wire rack to cool, and pat yourself on the back for being the next Martha Stewart.
Bonus round: Honey Butter!
This is the best thing next to heaven when drizzled over fresh-from-the-oven bread. Just because it’s the holidays and butter. And warm fluffy goodness.
Ready? 3 parts butter to one part honey – we adore the kind from our jelly lady at the local farmers market.
Warm and mix together… serve in individual bowls for a partay in your mizouth.
That photo almost looks a little odd but it’s oh so delicious.
On a totally unrelated note… It may be one of our favorite creations by our kindergartener. We studied the Titanic recently, and found this on the fridge. His depiction that he sounded out all by himself. I mean. Is there anything more precious than children’s art?
As always, if you try it… let us know!
