We have a big announcement to make today.
I know. Openers like that are kind of weird, but here we are, trumpeting our horn. I feel like I should be wearing a Robinhood hat and tights and waving a royal self-important flag or something. TOOT. TOOTELLLY TOOT.
Yes, I did just type that out. Someone should take my keyboard away.
But back to the announcement part because at least it’s a big deal to us. Something we’ve been quietly planning for in the background for some time now. And it’s the next chapter that we’re truly thrilled to launch.
If you’ve been following for a while, you know that we recently made a big move in order to make a much-needed change, and grow our business in a new way.
That was a scary leap of faith that took some bold persistence in a very tedious process behind the scenes. It was a time period of about three years for us to finally see it through. Looking back, I’m really not sure how we didn’t just give up. It was something that truly changed us. It transformed who we are as people and a family and a business. And we’re thrilled to be out on the other side, looking back. We learned so much about ourselves.
It was the hardest thing we’ve done, and trust us when we say we know it’s easy peasy compared to real problems. I’m also sure life will throw more curve balls.
But we made it. It was a big hurdle for us.
I’ve never been one for a word of the year or big new year’s resolutions… But this year, we’re drawn to a word.
And it’s possibility.
When we were cleaning out our garage in our old house to make the move this past spring, we were in a burn-all-the-things-before-we-move, rampage. So when we stumbled upon an old dusty box we’d stashed in the attic, I’d almost chunked it out of sheer exhaustion. When we saw the pile of papers just sitting there, I officially hated my past-self for holding on to such nonsense.
I don’t know why, but for some reason we both took a moment to sit down and read, instead. As it turns out, one of those papers contained a spot where we’d haphazardly scribbled our life goals in one of those dream-big-before-you’re-married-and-life-happens-romance-moments, circa 2001.
Our main dream, was to own a design business together.
{WHAT.}
Yes. Spelled out, right there. With our roles right in front of us…
But then life happened. Because clearly, we’d forgotten all about that little piece of paper.
Until we discovered it while cleaning, some fifteen years later. In a moment where we needed it, in a moment where we were doubting ourselves… wondering if all of this was supposed to happen. It was spring and the birds were chirping with the promise of fresh beginnings because we’d finally sold our house. And there we were, floored in our garage. It was like we’d been catapulted backwards into a moment of time.
Sometimes, you find things just when you need them.
It’s been something at our core that we can’t really explain, so to say we were humored would be an understatement. Of course that didn’t happen immediately after college, and we didn’t even realize we were moving in this direction, until well, we did.
Life and a timing that’s bigger than us is a funny thing. Sometimes it can really blow you away. Apparently, it’s always been something on our hearts, and we’re thrilled to continue growing what we absolutely adore.
Fast forward, and we made the move this past spring. But the transition we were thrilled to announce with our business didn’t happen right away. Mostly because we immediately dove into getting our own children and family settled in, and this included a rehab of our own. It was a complex process and owning a business doesn’t come with an owners manual. Sometimes you have to let yourself grow and evolve with the process. We’re learning to listen to this thing called timing, and it was definitely one of those moments.
Behind the scenes, we’ve been investing in something and we’ve been working hard on what we’re thrilled to announce today.
We’re officially taking on clients in the Nashville area.
Whether you’re rehabbing an entire home, building new, adding an addition or just taking that kitchen to the next level, we’d be thrilled to work with you.
Yes, we’ve always been a part of the design concept for clients through our site.
But The Handmade Home is now handling everything from design concepts to its implementation through construction, and the finished product with a beautiful home you can call your own. Right down to your tile selection and new sofa. It’s our passion to help others, and we’re humbled and honored to announce this next step for us.
We handle it all. We’re now literally your one stop shop for all that you’d need to make your home yours. We offer quality construction and unique design solutions that reflect who you are. A home is a multifaceted thing and we know that making a big change can be super stressful because we’ve been there and still are.
But we look forward to holding your hand through it, because it’s totally worth it.
We purposefully made this move to be closer to family, but also as an opportunity to grow our business in new ways. We’ve been talking about it for a while here, and quietly planning behind the scenes to make it a reality. It’s time for the next chapter in The Handmade Home, and we’re thrilled to turn the page.
We can’t wait to see what 2017 brings.
So the word possibility, just feels appropriate.
We don’t believe in the dream home. We believe in your home. We want to help others love where they dwell.
If you live anywhere near us in the Nashville area, and you’re thinking of taking on a renovation or build of your own (big or small), or know anyone who is… please contact us.
{And if you’re clicking around today, be sure to check out our spaces pages, here! We can’t wait to keep adding projects.}
We’d absolutely love to work together.
Have an inspired day!

Congratulations, guys! Checking in with your site has been part of my morning routine for years, and I am happy to see your dreams becoming reality! Will you still be doing any design consulting for online clients? I am finally getting to that point of frustration where I want to just drag all of my furniture to the curb and start over, so I might need a design lifeline!

Congratulations and best of luck. You do amazing work and I believe you’ll succeed beyond your dreams.

Congratulations! What a wonderful journey! A year of possibility indeed.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made a similar list of dreams, only to be presented years later with an opportunity to fulfill that dream. Usually it’s something that has snuck up on me, not necessarily something I’ve pursued. Funny how the universe works. Timing is everything.

Congrats on the new business!
FYI your instagram’s been down for a couple of days
julianna says
Never mind — I see from your next post that your instagram’s no longer the same as the one your button links to.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey! I’m a little confused as to what the confusion was ;} But the link was broken and now repaired. I hope that helps – Thank you!
ashley @ the handmade home says
JK I see now what you were referring to. We repaired the link. Thank you for letting us know! We were confused ;} And it was confusing HA! Thanks again
julianna says
Sorry for being confusing. I meant the little camera-in-a-circle button (that’s in a row with the circles for twitter, pinterest, etc. at the top and bottom of the page) — when you click on it, it takes you to instagram.com/the_handmade_home — which isn’t your instagram anymore. But now that I know the new one, I can just type it in. No big deal.
