It’s round eleven, y’all!
If you’ve been tuning in for a while now then you know we’ve been a part of the Waverly Inspirations challenge, where every month we receive some crafting goodies in the mail. And from those goodies, we create something with their fabulous products.
So for our first round, we decided to tackle a fun summer tablescape.
With round two, a diy art case for back to school!
This awesome menu planner {If we do say so ourselves} for round three.
Our Halloween Totes for round four – you could change them for any every day occasion! So much fun.
This owl wreath to warm up our home for fall right before moving in… was our little project for round five
For round six, we did a fun Thanksgiving tablescape for the kiddos, along with some free printables!
And for round seven… the theme was Deck The Halls – with some easy gift wrapping ideas.
For part eight, a definite new years vibe. {With free printables!}
Round nine was how to sew a fabric envelope…
And round 10… Valentine’s hearts!
For this round, the challenge was to spruce up with spring.
These Waverly fabrics certainly fit the bill for all things spring, and we love the fun awesome colors!
If you’ve been around our little parts of the www for a while, then you know that we love all things tablescapes. It’s a sick addiction, really. There’s something about them that feel homey and welcoming. And it’s a fun tradition we now have with the kids where they get oh so excited when I dress the table. It means we’re going to have a “fancy” dinner. Which really means we’re not using paper plates, but I digress…
We wanted to share a few of our favorite tips and tricks for spring tablescapes today. Because nothing says spruce ups for spring like simple, fresh tablescape ideas. And here’s our little secret: In no way, shape or form do they have to be complicated. I know, right? Winning. So let’s share a little, shall we?
1. This isn’t your grandmother’s table.
The fabrics from Waverly were oh so pretty… they were practically begging to be placed on our table. So our first tip? Let go of perfection. The best tables are the laid back, easy ones with zero expectations with the exception of good conversation. This isn’t your grandmother’s table. We find that a lot of times, the number one thing holding people back from creating beauty in their own homes, is the expectations and pressure they put on themselves. You don’t have to have it all together or follow the rules of etiquette circa 1955, to have a pretty table. Once you let go of the supposed pressure with it all, is when you start to enjoy yourself.
2. Layer up.
Layers are the best. Fabrics and plates and all things dinnerware are the perfect tool for that. From placemats, to napkins to table runners and all things place settings. With a simple hem, we were ready to go. Mix and match and make it interesting with plates, chargers, fabrics, and even glasses. The more the merrier.
3. Cheat.
Speaking of layering and hems… You don’t have to be some awesome seamstress to cook these puppies up. I’m the opposite of awesome and most definitely in the category of lame. We simply decided on a size we wanted, and after we made one, used it as a template to match the rest in sizing. We folded and ironed the edges before giving them an easy peasy hem. But you could also iron and tack with fabric or hot glue {watch those fingers!} for something pretty at your table. Also, the “napkins?” They’re basically there for a pretty place setting, and aren’t even hemmed. If you own an iron, you can make it happen in the most unexpected of ways. So once you let go of perfection, cheating is totally okay.
4. Bring the outside in.
Every table is prettier with al little greenery or bloom-age. Somewhere. For that matter, every home is, too.
We have a magnolia tree outside so it makes the prettiest bouquet even in the ‘off’ seasons {with no blooms}. We have a plum tree and it already has some fun flowers so I’ll probably be gathering a few, all too soon. Any flowering branches you can find in your yard will do. We also love to mix flowers from our own garden with the ‘cheapo’ finds in the grocery aisle. The more colorful, the better. Think a little outside the box when it comes to all things fancy, and you’ve got yourself an easy {and affordable} centerpiece.
5. All the colors. All the patterns.
When we say layer up in our tip above, you can do that in a beautiful textured or monochromatic way. But for spring, we love all the colors, patterns and interesting textures we can get our hands on to create interest. So if you’re creating a spring tablescape, pull a Sir Mix-A-Lot and go for it. Psssst…This is where breaking the rules also comes in handy to create interest.
Baby got table. Yep, I’ll stop now.
The best part? These fabrics are a part of the Waverly Inspirations line at Walmart. That means they’re totally affordable and absolutely gorgeous. Be sure to check them out the next time you’re out and about!
We hope our fave tips for an easy spring tablescape are a great little collection to get you started! We can’t wait to see what you do.
Have an inspired day, and happy creating!
Bring on the spring.
