{Jamin here – Awesome giveaway below – stay tuned!}
To say it was a hot day, dead in the middle of a sticky Alabama summer circa 1991, would be an understatement.
I’d been conquering the yard work with my older brother, and I remember glancing over from my hedge-trimming position just in time to see him hovering at the top of our driveway. He’d just finished cutting grass and was standing at the top of the hill holding the lawnmower with one hand.
I think it’s important to note here, that our driveway was one with a steep slope to the garage. If I had to guess, there was probably a 15-foot elevation difference between the road front and the base of our house.
It was obvious that he was contemplating his next move, and a thought raced through my head: surely he isn’t about to let go of that lawnmower.
Granted, it was hot. He was most likely tired and honestly, it was a real pain taking the lawn mower up and down the hill. Which is in part, why we fought over whose turn it was to mow.
But surely he wouldn’t… Just. Let. Go.
At least that’s what I thought.
Because he did.
And there went the mower, racing down the driveway straight past the basketball goal, off the edge of the driveway, sailing into the woods below.
I think about this story a lot, now that I have three kiddos that are getting to the age that I can turn over yard work, to make it a family affair.
And frankly, it scares the crap out of me.
Because let’s be honest. Most yard tools these days seem like they’re built for grown men are heavy, loud and not environmentally friendly. None of which inspires me to hand over the chore of all things yard work.
I feel like Tim the tool man Taylor designed some of the large and in charge yard tools that we see. The bigger the better, somehow escaping a thoughtful and considerate design process. More gas, heavy and bulky seems to be the name of the game. This is 2019… can’t we have better options?
While bigger is better in some cases, and gas is needed on some projects, what I routinely tell people is that it’s often better to think ergonomically, ecologically and functionally when buying your new yard tool.
Which is why we are excited about this giveaway!
Greenworks tools is graciously hosting a giveaway, along with Thistlewood Farms, LollyJane, and Remodelaholic.
Three lucky people are going to win $300 each towards Greenworks tools of their choosing! All the details on how to do that are below! But first, a little about my love for these tools.
We love that these tools are built for everyone to use. As I said, we’re at that stage in our life that we want our kids to begin sharing in the yard work and other chores with all things outdoors.
Greenworks tools are truly built for the family. Lightweight and easy to operate, they allow the entire family to get involved. All of their designs are corded or battery operated. That means there is no issue for people mixing gas correctly, spillages, or any of the other hassles that come with potentially overwhelming gas-powered tools.
Speaking of no gas, Greenworks tools are friendly to the environment, which is a major plus when cutting down on greenhouse gases. It’s already a difficult thing to do.
Ergonomically and ecologically, these check all the boxes. Winning.
And functionally, there are three levels of tools to meet the needs of your home.

Oh I saw these the other day, but had never heard of them and didn’t know much about them! I need to look more closely at this for our family.
