When Hannah sent in her bedroom for a bit of a master bedroom revamp, we were more than happy to put our heads together for some awesome ideas to help freshen up the space.
Hannah wanted to lighten and brighten their master bedroom, but really wanted to keep her furniture. She was looking for a design that wasn’t quite so parental in appearance… something a little more them.
We try to choose some really classic elements and colors that will last our clients for years to come, as well as budget savvy ideas and alternatives. So first things first, the inspiration images.
We think their furniture is gorgeous, and it absolutely makes sense that they want a younger look without something so formal. It can be easy to let those two elements fight together when you want to head in another direction as far as lightening and brightening. So instead, we kind of honed in on that glam edge their furniture has, and decided to make it both fun, and swanky to make it work for them.

We think it would be great to incorporate a lot of color, and that should help lighten everything, especially when combined with these other textures we hope to bring into the space. We’ll have more explanation on all of these below. Original images from 1/2/3/4/5
So without further ado, your design board + furniture plan… with details on everything below:

4. Wallpaper
Yes, we chose wallpaper. I know it can be scary. I know some people are vehemently opposed to such shenanigans. We think that this wallpaper is absolutely gorgeous, and we think that they should only have it on one accent wall of their master bedroom space : The wall where their headboard sits. We love the modern edginess it brings to the classic floral pattern. Especially when paired with everything else in the room. It brings the clean, classic lines of their furniture to life.
We’d love to see the walls painted in a soft blue as a clean historical vibe on the other walls.
I would definitely try out a sample of that blue. If they don’t want to do the wallpaper, we understand. Maybe even take on the rest of the space first, and then introduce it. There’s just something so different and playful about it when paired with the stripes and dark furniture, it might be worth a try. An unexpected element, for sure. It would definitely rock their walls. ;}
They mentioned keeping those flowers over their bed as far as art is concerned. If they decide to use wallpaper that wall may just be awesome sans art. And if they don’t use the wallpaper, they may want to try some fresh frames with large mats. It may help freshen up the look a little.
We have a
how to for frames here if they’re interested in DIY-ing their own to the perfect size for over their bed
5. Bedding
We paired some high/low items for their bedding, and while some of it is a bit of a splurge, I always say it’s something they won’t regret splurging on, since they already have most of your furniture for the space, and that usually eats up the budget ;}
Duvet + Quilt – we love the classic stripes in this duvet paired with this fun quilt in classic lines. We’d simply fold the quilt nicely at the end of the bed, to bring a little balance to those stripes, so it doesn’t get too “busy”. The two together should work nicely.
Pillows – We love it with some shots of subtle color in these pillows
As far as pairing on their bed, we’d try two yellow, one bold stripe and one bolster on their bed – if they use it with the shams from the bedding. It may take a little playing around to get it just right.
6. Windows
For the windows, we love these blinds for a bit of extra texture paired with some simple linen panels. If they have someone to sew custom for them, or they can… OR we love these as a ready made option, too {in white}.
7. Rug
We’d love to see this rug + think that the photos don’t do it justice. In the furniture plan attachment, we’d love to see it pulled out a bit from under the bed so that they’re able to showcase that pretty texture. We’d go as big as possible for their space. Another alternative would be this look here.
8 + 9 Bay Window Area
For their {awesome!} bay window area, we would love to see this beautiful tufted sofa for a little reading nook. OR, they could have a
window seat built that would definitely utilize the space. They could turn it into a hinged seat, and have more storage there, as well.
We’d love to see some art on each side of that window, if space permits. It’s a great chance to grab up some family photos and make those their art. We love the idea of making some frames, along with salvaging some as they find them to put together your own little mini gallery walls. Anything from their childrens art to special occasions documented, go. Combine those with family photos and it’s one of a kind collections for their space.
1. Nightstands and Lamps
We love these nightstands here to bring in a touch of rustic, and break up the dark wood colors already in the space.
Combined with the metallic hint of these lamps for something a little different than your typical box store find. {Available to order through us!}
2. TV area
For the TV area over their dresser, we’d love to see some symmetry on each side. These shelves help lighten the look of the existing furniture by offering contrast, and storage.
We’d pair them with a few baskets like these to help hide away some things and also offer plenty of storage for their room.
We would also help soften that TV by framing it out. There’s an entire company online that you can order from, or DIY is also an option.
3. Accessories
We love the idea of a little stylin’ doggy bed and couldn’t resist!
Paired with a little basket like this {over by their sofa area} to store blankets and pillows.
