I’m a big believer that one of the most important things you can do in your life, is to always be thankful. It’s one of the biggest lessons I want my children to walk away with…if it’s remembering to express gratitude after they experience something kind, or thanking their creator for the blessing of being able to breathe that day.

To me, it’s just essential.

From a car wreck, to a tv show, and the seemingly mundane in betweens, like prepping lunches and clothes for their next day of school, I’ve been reminded lately of all the things I really do have to be thankful for.

I kind of felt like this, this summer.

Jamin and I knew a few things were coming up. And I had some things (to say the least) that needed to be completed on time. Because of his job, Jamin was absent all summer, and I was holding down the fort with three children {5 and under} in tow. We pulled 3 spaces together in one month. How did we do it? We’re certainly not super human. We had the help of our incredible friends. And I’m still completely dumbfounded that it actually happened.

Today I wanted to give a quick thank you, to the wonderful people who are also my treasured friends. They just so happen to be a dream team of resources for me, and they head up their own companies. Just like many of you guys do, It takes a lot of gusto to go for it : They work hard to provide for their families, and they take the time on a regular basis to help out their friends. If I could give them super hero names, {as I epically failed at below} they would be on an all star league of fab faves for me. And today, I wanted to take the time to thank them. If you read regularly, they are probably no stranger to you. But these are some of the people that have rescued me on a regular basis at The Handmade Home.

Also known as one of my favoritest people is Tony Oravet. He and his awesome wife are what I fondly refer to as a power couple in the world of production and website building, and I simply adore them both. All four of us go back to the college days or yore, and it’s been exciting to watch this brilliant web developer known as Even Par Solutions really take flight. If you need a website, this is your company. Tony is the man who keeps THH from crashing and other whatnots. In the business for seven years and growing, they have worked with charitable organizations, churches, blogs, small, medium and large businesses, and just about anything else you can think of. Tiffany of Tiffany Interiors never ceases to amaze me with her careful eye and beautiful work. She’s the entire reason we were able to pull our living room together, and was the brilliant eye behind this wonderful piece. She completed the Upholstery Career Professional Program at the Custom Home Furnishings Academy in Charlotte, NC. You can catch some of her work at the Montgomery Antique Galleries, where her awesome pieces there available to upholster. I will now be referring to her as “SupaSeamstress” whenever she calls.

Maybe I should make all of my friends matching capes…maybe they would never speak to me again.

I now fondly refer to britsnap photography as our ‘family photographer’…whether he likes it or not. ;} This super talented artist always takes care of our photos, and we are oh so thankful to have him on our team. He’s a Montgomery based photographer but travels to different parts of Alabama for his clients. Martin is an experienced portrait photographer, available for weddings, families and children. He has an eye, and it shows…be sure to check out his facebook page for more of his fabulous work, or contact him here. 

John, aka Welderman, is one of the smartest people I know. And I know lots of smart people, in case you were wondering. I just so happen to be brilliant, and therefore attract other brilliantness. {riiiggghhhttttt} This man builds cars for a living…and runs The Oak Grove Machine Shop in Troy, Alabama. I believe that building cars is the ultimate impressive handmade hobby, and he has rebuilt many. He totally rebuilt his sons truck (above.) Amazing, much? He also collects vintage cars. He’s available for welding projects like the ones you see here, whether its s shelving unit or coffee table…the possibilities are kind of endless.  If you want to get in touch with John, and you live nearby, contact me and I’ll send you his email address. I personally plan to pay him in the future to rebuild a wagoneer. But that’s another story.

Finally, I wanted to take a moment to thank you. I realize this totally isn’t the academies, (pretend I’m standing on stage for a moment in sparkly dress. Wasn’t that purdy? No?) But you guys rock my face off. (Yeah, I still say that) You make this happen each day. This lil blog has already gone places I never fathomed. And I have you to thank for that.

    I just recently had to resign at my job due to back issues. I go in today for an M.R.I. and this would make my week so much better….a bright spot anyway!

    • Hey Erin! ha! I wish I could send my super heroes everyone’s way! 😉 If you win, you send photos of your room of choice, and I {probably feature it on the blawgh} but do an inspiration board with ideas, etc. that you can do yourself for the space. 😉 Check the links above for examples of past spaces.   38. Ok. I’m going to throw in a little plea for simpathy and hope that it pulls the random number generator my way. We built a house and moved in it last November. And when I say we built it, I mean I was the general contractor. By the time the thing was finally complete, I was too tired to do much in the way of decorating and all those blank walls scare me. Then my family has given me a random array of things they didn’t want anymore so its a pretty random collection of pieces that don’t really fit at the moment.   190. Sounds like you are surrounded by a wonderful group of people!! We are a military family and move A LOT! (we are now on our 14th address in 11yrs) Our friends are what make our moves totally awesome! Friends are the family you choose! 🙂
    As for the room inspiration giveaway….can I actually scream “HELP” in a post? Usually I am pretty good at putting a house together (as I said before lots of moves) we almost always rent, can’t paint, etc…etc… Our furniture is very exchangeable. What once was a nightstand in one house is now an end table in another.(most of our furniture was furnished by craigslist, flea markets and maybe a little dumpster diving.) I hate matchy, matchy!!! Anyhoo… the house we are in now has small bedrooms (we have 4 kiddos) so we made the dining room a playroom/kid hang out space….and it looks terrible! We have some great pieces for the room but I am at a complete and total loss of how to make it look good and not just blah. So I would love love love (did I mention love) to win!!! However…I know I am not the only one who wants to win. So do you do inspiration boards? I didn’t see that in your profile? I would love (no matter what) to have your help!

  241. How perfect! A room redo offer and a house that I’m moving in to 12/1 that has a blank slate. I have no idea where to start. I’ve been pulling idea pages from the internet & your website but I can’t seem to pull it ALL together. It’s my great room, connected to my kitchen.   250. I am still “new” to the homemade, refurbish designs. But I totally love it and I’m having a blast with it all!!!! I was raised where you go to a store, pick something out and hang it on the wall. When you get tired of it you sell at a yardsale and go buy new. Now it makes my stomach hurt to buy something new!! lol! So my utility room (which is nice sized) has also turned into my crafting room. Talk about a mess! My living room is almost picture perfect but for one wall and an old hutch that needs repainted…my biggest problem is that I love so many different styles and color combinations that I drive myself crazy changing things out – and on a very tight budget! My best “friend” includes the flea market down the street from me!!

    • Carol Rae…I’m so glad to hear someone admit that they’re own creativity is their greatest and worst asset. I over analyze every design decision and I too drive myself nuts. I’m trying to learn to just “go for it”. So hard. 🙂

  274. I love your blog and you post the coolest ideas. I have a room that is beyond desperate for a redo. It has a stone fireplace that is really nice but the rest of the room looks so bad that I don’t even go in the room. Not to mention that it is very dated …. built in 1950 and it also has two HUGE windows that I have no idea what kind of window treatment to use that I can actually afford.
