It’s the dead of summer here in the tropics of Alabama and it’s been insanely hot and humid. And as soon as I wrote this, we had a humid-less (37% to be exact) day with a high of 85. Are we in Colorado? Is this some anti-global warming thing? Did we melt a polar ice cap? We’re so confused. It was like a blessing from the Weather Channel gods. Usually, this heat makes it completely unbearable and we can’t think of anything worse.
Well… maybe a pickle and chocolate sandwich. Things happen when you live with kids. Gross.
But I digress.
With the weather the way it is and our work space being outside (see: neighbors asking us about the second story we’re building) I’m always looking for ways to beat the heat, like shortening the work time or using the new Arctic Cove.
But this week we’ve been working on the barn door for our bathroom.
Updated: See how we built it, here!
Cue sneak peek of what we’ve been working on in the bedroom. We promise a details post on how to build this soon, so stay tuned. (In the meantime go ahead and get your hardware so you’ll be ready to go. No, seriously. This stuff is so beautiful.)
One thing I hate when building, especially in 105 degree 90% humidity weather is actually having to drive a nail, call me pampered, or say I have instant gratification issues, but these are the days I love a good nailer.
For a finish nailer my go to is the RYOBI airstrike. It’s an amazing nailer that I’ve used with almost every project and one Ashley and I like to dance with on occasion. (Refresh if video below isn’t loading.)
(And just because there are lawyers out there, we in no way endorse using products without proper safety equipment, these nailers are actually unloaded.)
We do however endorse our mad dancing skillz.
Chloe was not impressed.
Today, not because we build stuff, but because of our dance floor jig, RYOBI wants to give away a 18ga Airstriker nailer. (Either that, or they feel sorry for us subjecting you to Ashley’s dance moves, because let’s face it I’m pretty fly for a white guy.)
All you need to do to enter the giveaway:
Click the photo below and join RYOBI nation (if you are already a member just sign in) where you will find tons of beautiful projects to help you forget the above video and push those images right out of your mind.
Good Luck! Giveaway ends Monday August 4th 11:59pm.

Love the sneak of your barn door. Can’t wait to see and hear more about it. So much so that I’m going to ask the question now…. Is it quiet to operate?
We have small double doors leading to our bathroom that I really just can’t stand, but my husband wakes and showers in the wee hours of the morning and I’m an extremely light sleeper.
I’d love to know if you think they will work in our situation.
Thanks!

Hey Leslie! It’s actually quieter than our double doors. I wake up in the mornings earlier than Jamin and go for a run and I was worried it would be loud. Our double doors would click and jam and make weird noises. I think it’s all in the hardware – check out the company we linked in the post because we’ve used their products for three different track sets now {this and the boys’ + playroom walk through closet} and we love love love it. It just makes a quiet rolling sound and that’s it. I very much prefer it – hope that helps!

I have the strangest urge to go out to the shed and dance with power tools. (Ummm, like you guys did. Not in some ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ way.)

I’m in Arkansas and we normally are melting by now and it’s 80 degrees and cloudy….it rained all day yesterday. Strange weather. I LOVE the doors!!! LOVE em! I don’t have a doorway with a flat wall or I would be stealing this idea! Great dance video! Hope I am a winner!!

That’s too funny because here in Colorado it just rained for two days straight…the soaking kind of rain that somehow falls sideways and defies your umbrella!
Love this giveaway, I needed it about 6 weeks ago when I started to build the kids playhouse 😉 Can’t wait to show you the results…

You guys are the best! Such a fun video! I am in love with all of the barn doors I’ve been seeing around blogland, but alas, we don’t have a spot where one would work in our home. Boo. So I guess I’ll just keep admiring them from afar– can’t wait to see your details post. It looks beautiful!
