If you guys have stayed tuned for a while, then you know a little bit about our Money Pit adventures.
We’ve been on phase 2: the basement – for some time. Actually, it really just took some time to get started. Remember the part where they made us wait a year, and almost didn’t let us start on the rest of the house before now? Cue me, dying twice. Trying to have that patience thing that always seems to come back around as some recurring theme in my life.
So when they gave us permission to move into the top part of the house, we finally started the basement, one year later. And we had a little trouble with all things moisture in the middle of hurricane season {who knew?!}. It put another pause on our previously paused project. Like the inception of pauses. Now that it’s been professionally and properly and proactively {and all the other verbs I shall put here in case the future people read it who are not supposed to} handled, we’ve been working away quickly on all things insulation…
And now drywall.
But let us refresh our memories, because we started with this: {The whole triple homicide clown in a crawl space vibe} – no really, this was the good part.
And we really can’t believe that we’re here.
So we’re leaving the ceilings because we have a really fun planked out feel that we can’t wait to share, which you may have already seen a sneak peek of if you stay tuned in our Insta stories, because we’re technically further along Now and we’ll share more of that asap. This will also leave access to things like pipes, should such a problem arise. It avoids the whole drop down ceiling conundrum {See me: making cross signs and hissing at “the very idy”- as my grandmother would say} while still offering character.
We also, had to work around the entire ventilation system, but we think the solution will be interesting and attractive, despite our initial odds, with the ceiling solution. Now that it is technically done, the ceilings feel so nice and open, we can’t believe what we started with down here.
We’re still loving the way these windows will bring in so much light, and will disguise the once not-so-pretty outside. Baby steps, y’all.
Baby steps to amazingness.
The outside overhaul {phase 3} is about to begin, as well… so we can’t wait to share this entire process with you.
In case you have no earthly idea what I’m talking about, a little bit of that is coming your way, and here’s a fun visual reminder, here. We decided to embrace the classic split level feel rather than fight it, by bringing a little color and character in.
So this main area will be our playroom for the kids, along with a snack bar and main entryway area to store all the coats and shoes. I think I’m the most excited about a place to store all the backpacks and school things. And a place to entertain kiddos in the winter because as of now it’s kind of a tight fit to have friends over. Game changer.
As all plans go, this one has already changed. You get the gist though, right?
This is also the site of our new office. And by our new office, I mean mine. I’m truly the only one who uses a desk, but it will be a great place to dub the new studio, house all our samples and inspiration, and let the kids spread out a little on that top floor. {Stages 4 and 5 and 6 coming in the future. Yes, we do have that many phases. No I’m not sure which project coordinates with which phase, I just know there’s at least that many – we’ll be going to ten by the time we’re off this hamster wheel}.
Oh, and because every time we mention the basement someone asks about a garage, I believe that is phase 7. Think adorable little carriage house on property that looks amazing. Because we will pull it off.
But I’m starting to fall in love with progress like some little remodel addict. So much so, that we’re now taking it on with fabulous clients. {Who knew?}
So the ceiling is next along with trim work, tile, door, and this thing is to the phase where it’s starting to pick up steam like the whole Indiana Jones and his giant boulder.
I can’t wait to share some design elements with you specific to each space, as we’re still getting some of those squared away in between work.
Stay tuned. So much more to come!
You guys are so talented and brave. Best wishes to all your endeavors. I love Franklin and would like to see this in person someday. Stranger danger! Haha
I’m really looking forward to your ceiling solution since we have the same issues with our basement re-do. I didn’t want the old fashioned dropped tiles, but I also didn’t want the closed off dry wall in case we need to access systems. I wish we had phases because we seem to be tackling what ever we happen to have money for at the time or whatever must be done NOW. I guess that makes us on phase 2 even though we haven’t finished phase 1. I love following along to see what you’re doing.
Amateur lol. Good luck drywalling the ceilings AFTER the walls lol!
LEO, We say all the time that the internet has made people believe their opinions matter and that they are actually correct. I raise a glass of wine to your level of asshatness my dear friend. Not only do you win the day for being a turd bucket, but you clearly lack in reading comprehension skills.
Looking good! I’d love some more tutorials on planning/hanging drywall, insulation and other parts of the building process.
