The best homemade lasagna recipe! Once upon a time, the first year we were dating, Jamin proclaimed he hated Valentine’s day. I vowed that I was going to change his mind about said V-day. And the way to his heart? Food, of course. But not just any food. This super fabulous homemade lasagna recipe. It’s so good, I won’t eat any other lasagna. So good, in fact, that if I were on death row and had a final meal, I would request this lasagna.
Wow, that escalated quickly. From love to death, really fast. And this is how we know that the recipe is all-encompassingly fabulous, because it’s always relevant. It’s really gotten us through a few snow days recently, and it was the only thing our oldest requested when he was in the bed {living his best life} quarantined with Covid.
So we’re thrilled to share our fave recipe.
Let’s just say this one brought a smile to everyone’s face.
What you’ll need: {For the first part.}
1. 1 lb ground round
2. 1 clove garlic, minced. {for those of us who could care less about mincing garlic, 1 clove = 1/2 Tbsp. garlic salt}
3. 1 Tbsp Basil
4. 1.5 tsp salt
5. 1 – 8 oz can of tomato sauce
6. 1 – 6 oz can of tomato paste
7. 1 can tomatoes {cut up}
Brown your meat slowly. When its finished, I transfer it to a deeper boiler, and add ingredients 2-7.
Simmer uncovered until thick, 45 mins – 1 hr stirring occasionally.
For the second part of the recipe you will need:
6 lasagna noodles {3 in each layer}
The recipe calls for boiling, but I’m a short cuts kinda gal. So do this: Oven Ready Lasagna noodles.
1/2 pound or 5-6 slices of mozzarella cheese + cheese mixture
Cheese mixture:
1. 1-24 oz. tub small curd cream style cottage cheese
2. 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese
3. 1 beaten egg
4. 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
5. 2 Tbsp parsley flakes
While your meat mixture simmers, combine ingredients for your cheese mixture {1-5}
1. Place 1/2 of noodles in a buttered, 9 x 12 dish.
2. Spread 1/2 of cheese mixture over noodles.
3. add 1/2 of mozzarella cheese 4. and 1/2 of meat sauce.
Then because cheese, we like to top it with mozzerella, too. No, calories don’t count when you eat this magical dish. Repeat the above steps for the second layer.
Place into oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. TADA! You’re a wizard.
As always let us know if you try it… we’d love to hear! Have an inspired day!

Looks and sounds AMAZING! I’ll have to try it. With just the two of us at home now — one boy at college, the other out on his own — we can make this and have it for leftovers, too! BONUS!
Thanks for sharing. Love you guys!

Wow – looks and sounds amazing. It’s got to be fabulous if it’s your death row meal. I love me some lasagne… I’ll eat it again, one day. It’s my boys’ fave meal – we often have it for birthdays! I often buy it but I’ll have to try this recipe:)

Sounds like my mom’s old recipe. What size can of tomatoes do you use?
ashley @ the handmade home says
They may be very similar! This is the one I grew up with. 24 oz size, I believe. Hope that helps!
