{psssstttttt – looking for our 2017 planner? Just released – Get it here!}
In the middle of the technological revolution, from snapchat to other newfangled scary apps which I’m totally oblivious to because I find it all quite confusing… I find comfort in the almighty paper and pen. I’m a little bit of an old fashioned gal myself: Sometimes, I make lists just so I can cross them off.
My idea of a wild night is me in yoga pants, with some various treats of choice {kids out cold, duh} …settled in with my planner. We could be in the midst of an alien invasion zombie apocalypse, but all is right in the world when I have the next few weeks planned out. It doesn’t matter that the photo shoot/soccer game/pool party is no longer relevant because civilization has now ceased to exist… Mutant brain eating little green men be darned: I can color coordinate my pages decked out in washi tape and gel pens. Don’t forget the rainbow tabs.
I may or may not have control issues. Shhhhh. Nerds rule the world. Also, coping mechanisms.
So after the emails, messages and comments, it’s so exiting to release this planner for 2016! We love hearing about the variety of people who use these, and we’re just kinda thrilled that there are so many people like us out there. I feel like we should have some sort of official, secret club logo/handshake. Like, for the wonder twins. But instead, it’s for the planner nerds.
Because we’re unstoppable with our organized planners, and unitards for life.
So without further ado, the free 2016 planner! In addition to our traditional format, we have about 9 new additions this year… from year at-a-glance views to info pages + quote dividers. All in endless little combos to customize, just for you.
Have it your way, baby. Just click on the file of your choice + print!
{Nothing makes us happier than seeing them put to good use. Use #thehandmadehomefreebies on instagram, and we’d love to see them there!}

Our lesson planning pages are in three simple formats this year, all of them blank.
1. The first set is formatted for teachers with a homework column:
• Lesson plans floral, • Lesson plans blue lemon drop, • Lesson plans plaid
2. The second set is for anyone working with a single child:
• Lesson planner single child blue lemon drop • Lesson planner single child plaid • Lesson planner single child floral
3. And the third is for multiple children, with a column at the top for additional names:
• Lesson plans multiple kids blue lemon drop, • Lesson plans multiple kids floral • Lesson plans multiple kids plaid
Format them any way you like for your own personal use!
Anyone keeping track of schoolwork at home? We simply printed these out, and laminated them. With their work listed on one side, they can keep up with it during the school year or summer months. From reading to math… It’s helped us help them take initiative.

Our favorite planners/supplies/things that make us happy and keep us organized:
1. & 2. – The Wilson Jones Binder – Available in multiple colors
3. & 8. – And for an A5 Size, we love this little binder with this hole punch to make our printables customizable – be prepared for these to take a little bit to ship, but they’re worth the wait.
4. These metallic gel pens make for great planner marking
5. We still adore these tabs to easily organize everything in our binders and help us keep our sanity.
6. Clearly, we’re writing instrument addicts: Mircon Pen, Sharpie Pens, and our very favorite mechanical pencil {we’ve been using these for thirteen years and will do so until we DIE.}
7. Paper clips to bind similar pages together, and bring a smile to your face. {Our kids fight over these for school stuff}
9. Washi Tape: To mark off certain days clearly, and remind me of my love of Hello Kitty. Also, it wards off alien zombies.
10. More fun clips, here.
________________
• We have slightly different colors and different file selections in last year’s (2015) option. We hope you can choose, pick, and enjoy!
• If you’re new here, be sure to check out all of our free printables, here + our spaces, here. All posts in chronological order, here.

And now, just a few FAQ’s:
1. What kind of paper do you print this on? Cardstock is what we love best. It’s great for all things planner, but any will do! The regular size will fit perfectly on an 8.5 x 11 – just click, print, hole punch and use. The smaller size will still fit on a standard sheet, just cut to your preferred (smaller A5 size) and use – Be sure to print these with a crop mark option to make it easier to trim.
2. Can you print this on two sides? I actually use the blank sides for extra sketching space… it’s how I think and a lot of the ideas in my head work themselves onto paper that way. So I prefer the blank sides. But if you want to print on two sides, you can take it to a professional printer, or depending on your printer settings, try to run your paper back through to get it on the next side. This will vary for everyone depending on what they own.
3. How much will this cost to print? How much paper will it use? There are so many options for this, it all depends on you: How many you print at a time, what you decide to print, etc. We would recommend getting a few quotes, but the cheapest option will be at home if you already have a printer. Either way, it’s still cheaper than purchasing one!
4. I don’t see my size. Can you provide my size? We have them available in the two sizes listed. However, you can try resizing it for your printer/computer through various programs like Photoshop, or taking it to a professional. Also, you can just print out one of our sizes, laminate the covers, and have it bound at a local print shop. We hope these suggestions help!
5. Can I take these to a professional printer? Will I be allowed to print them there? Absolutely. These are free. Just give me the blood of your firstborn We just ask that you respect copyright laws by not selling them ;} Share, and enjoy!
6. How did you create these? I am a graphic designer by trade, so the files were created in Adobe Illustrator. Then moved to PDF format in Photoshop to prepare them for our site.
7. Why are all of these in separate files? Options, Options, Options.
This makes them easier for us to manage on our end, and as the years go by, easier for you to download. Each year {don’t worry, we will also have one for 2017 available by next summer} will come with different features, and it helps to pick and choose what you want to add to your own personal collection as you go. (Also, we’re human and will make mistakes. We will be shocked if there is not a single edit that needs to be made.) So this makes for easy quick fixes as soon as we’re notified. Last year, we may or may not have blown the whole Ground Hog Day thing… though you’ll notice those are blank this year due to requests from international readers. Whoops. I’ve officially over explained myself.
8. Regarding additions, changes, personal preferences for color, suggestions, questions and complaints:
We really do hope that you enjoy our free planner. We will definitely consider changes for the future, and appreciate friendly suggestions. We take those to heart each year and make thoughtful changes to the design. Thank you so much for those!
Please bear with us while we explain… Unfortunately, personal preferences will be different for everyone. We know that some people don’t like turning their planner to the side for the monthly view, because it’s hard. And some people don’t like the colors because they give them headaches. And some people think we’re idiots. This was a planner made from scratch and original designs which adds up to days of work. If we tried to meet every single demand, we would never be able to play with our children. Let alone feed them. ;} So it kind of is what it is. We know we can’t please everyone.
The options seen are the ones that are available. We are excited to add 9 new additions this year alone, in at least 3 design options each… sometimes more. The entire thing is over 90 files total, for a lot of fun choices at your fingertips to create from the choices available. All of that said, please feel free to not download the planner, if it doesn’t meet your needs. We know that this is not for everyone.
Thank you so much in advance for your understanding.
Thank you so very much for stopping by, and please enjoy + share!
As always, let us know if you use them! We’d love to hear. Have an inspired day!

Thank you so, so much! I’ve been stalking your site for weeks for this. I use an A5 Avery zip binder as a planner, and your 2015 printables changed how we organize our lives. Honestly. We’re shift workers so the 5AM- 11PM formats don’t work for our family, and having enough room in the weekly columns to write in shift hours, car pooling and to add layers of Post It Notes for reminders and to-do’s has saved our sanity this year! Thank you for 2016 and the new designs!
PS- I’m not on Instagram- would love to share the 2015 layout in use- is there another option?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve just started a home planner and I wasn’t sure if I was going to commit to it, so I decided to give it a go with your 2015 planner inserts and I am really doing it every day! The thing is that I was still not sure about purchasing a planner for next year, and now I’ve seen your 2016 inserts I’m certain I won’t. I just love the designs and that there are so many options this year, so thank you again for the free printables!

Love this, thank you so much!! The colors are beautiful, very well thought out and organized. I only have one suggestions – can you do a school year calendar? I like the 2015 as much as this one, but I need one to plan my school year and they won’t match.

OH MY STARS. We’re about to move across country (military transfer, fun times!) and I’ve got a move binder that I use in an attempt to keep myself organized. I can totally use some of these for my binder and am sooooo excited to print some cute things! I can use a few of the monthly calendar pages, the budget sheets (I’ll print several so I can track our spending — gas, food, hotels — along the way and compare it back to our allotment for those things and see how we did), the to-do for jotting down the gazillion things we need to do (which I’ve already done since we leave in a few days, but I’m somehow still making lists and will use these instead of boring old notebook paper *yawn*), and the contacts for important numbers we may need along the way so we don’t have to dig back through emails from the moving company to find them. YAY!! This is so awesome, just know how appreciated it is that you took the time to put your creativity out there for FREE for us to enjoy and use.

Today felt like a rough day at every turn. To top off the craziness, I decided to jump back into homeschooling this week after a 2 week break, to keep math fresh in my daughter’s mind and my son’s new reading skills going strong. Last year, I kept track of what I did each day on your Weekly Pages. I was just thinking today that it would be so nice to print some out again in a new color so I can quickly glance to make sure I’m not getting them confused with last year’s work (which is still currently on my counter). I just sat down tonight to pull up your blog and here they were! It sounds silly to say this about a planner, but it felt like God knew I needed a little bright spot today. Thanks for being that today (and for the hard work that goes into putting this together, I can’t even imagine the hours involved)!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Awe thank you Kristin. You’re so sweet to let me know that. Hope things get a little brighter today – you’re not alone in this homeschooling thing! ;} Hugs and have an awesome day!

Wow, so beautiful. Thank you!! Yay to pen and paper!!! Apparently we South African’s are still somewhat in the dark ages when it comes to technological advances and yet I find it all completely overwhelming. Will be with you in spirit (from the southern hemisphere) and in complete ignorant bliss through any alien/zombie invasion (: THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!!
Sophie says
Thanks for the great art work!

you are awesome and amazing! thank you, thank you… you don’t know how many places I have searched for “making my own” planner… either they were geared to schooling larger families or they were blah looking… yours are perfect! Thank you so much for your hard work and then providing it for free! Did I already say you are awesome??!? thank you!
Sarah says
THANK YOU!!!! I could seriously reach through this computer and kiss your face. I have been using your planner pages for 2014 & 2015 for my business, personal, and homeschooling planning and had been super excited to see what you’d come up with for 2016 and you did not disappoint! They’re gorgeous! Nothing gets my pulse racing like a beautiful planner and some matching washi tape!!! <3
I can't wait to tell my friends. 🙂

Hi, I just subscribed to your blog and it’s so awesome!! Thank you for making it free, this printable I mean…they are wonderful!! Just thought you might check out the February calendar month….it has 31 days!! I checked on all of them and they all have 31 days. 🙁 that is all I checked so far, but I’ll be back after my nap!;)

Just downloaded the planner. Thank you so much. I used the 2015 planner, love the way I could pick and choose which sections I needed so I could make a custom planner that’s functional.
Happy to say that I have used this every single day this year so far which is more than I can say for the standard shop bought one’s.

I know you don’t do “special orders” but I totally fell in love with the colors/designs of 2014/2015, is there a way you could do your monthly calendars but leave the numbers blank so that I can continue printing them out?
This is such amazing work!

Thank you, thank you and thank you! Your timing was perfect. I stumbled onto your 2015 planner pages through Pinterest this week. After much research and going back and forth in my mind, I decided that printable was the way to go for me. After a trip to Staples today, I came home to start printing. I was so excited to see the 2016 version! I have been printing, labeling and binding (using the Arc system) this afternoon. I love all the options that you provide and can’t wait to start using my planner.
Thanks again,
Kathy
Kathryn says
Finally found what I was looking for hours. Thanks for putting this online and for free. I do have a question thought. Could I print it in A6 size? Otherwise I’ll print it size A5. Thanks.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Kathryn – you may be able to shrink them down at a printer or with the help of photoshop – or print them at the regular size and have them bound – hope that helps!
Lula says

I made mine by mixing the patterns and using all of them. I can’t wait to get start on my 2016 planner. Thank you so much I think this year is even better.
rhonda says
Love the binder! Q: You suggest printing with the crop marks. How do I turn this feature on? I am wanting to use the A5 style. Thanks!
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey it really depends on what your desktop/printer set up is, but when you set it to print, it should be available under your advanced output settings. I usually just click around under all the options until I find it. Hope that helps!
Sara says
thank you for this lovely planner… there’s all what I need and so many option to choose from. I also love the pastel colors you use and the floral design, it’s adorable 🙂

These are so beautiful! Thanks for working so hard on them. I was wondering if you might include a portrait style set of calendar pages for letter size. I like to keep my binder upright and not have to turn it sideways to see my write-in-the-square calendar pages.

SOOOOO much pretty awesomeness in one spot! I teach incarcerated kids, so we/they don’t get a “summer break” each year. Downloading, printing, and organizing my notebooks was my little mini vacation with all your amazing choices. Thanks! (If you have to be at work, at least do something that will make you smile, right? :-D)
Debra Belmudes says
Thank you for such a beautiful calendar. I can see that you put a lot of love and effort into the project!
I have only two suggestions: (1) Switch to an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 planner size rather than an A5 and (2) since you already have the name of the day written in on the weekly calendars, it would be great if you could leave the circles blank so we can write in the date. I have looked at so many very nice calendars, but yours is the closest to what I think is perfect for my needs.
Joyce says
I love the colors and the features! Thanks for your generosity for making this free!! Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for making this! I love it! I’ve been searching on Pinterest for free printables. Good thing there are three designs for this ’cause I’ll be printing three – one for me, my mom, and my best friend. This will make a best Birthday/Christmas gift. I’m so glad you posted it early. It will be helpful for me as an accountant and as a student. I’m so motivated to plan my days because of the designs.
Have a good day! 😀
