Happy Earth day, everyone! It’s time for a Greenworks giveaway!
Last Saturday, in honor of upcoming Earth Day, we decided to celebrate with something fun- to make some amazing memories with our family.
After a great brunch-y kinda morning with the kiddos, we went to a local nursery in Franklin a friend of ours has been recommending for ages. {Shout out to Mary – she was totally right and also the one who laughed at me when I ordered a fiddle leaf from Amazon. Cue: And at last I see the liiiiiggghhhtttt…}
We got lost in another world and could stay there for days.
To say that this place was an experience, would be an understatement. We’ve never seen a space so large.
{If you’re ever in the Franklin area, head to Hewitt’s Garden and Design Center. They’re a family owned business and you will not be disappointed.}
We were in awe.
So one by one, with the help of our fabulous guide, each child chose a tree.
We’ve been on a total green kick lately, {See my plant babies – we have roots, y’all! + front porch spruce up} But we love the idea of adding to our home. We have quite a yard, and we haven’t really landscaped until now, since we were so overwhelmed with the entire renovation of the inside. The house has been around for so long now, that the property has lost a few trees before we even moved in. We’d love to keep adding to what we have.
And taking a photo of each kiddo beside their tree each spring will be part of the fun.
After exploring for a bit and deciding what would be best for our yard, Aiden chose a cherry blossom tree. We’re in love with those beautiful blooms.
Emerson chose a red bud pom pom tree, which we thought was appropriate since when they were smaller, they called palm trees pom-pom trees. Still one of our favorite memories to this day.
And Malone chose a red maple. Its leaves turn a fire-y red in the fall.
He named it, appropriately, Pheonix.
What I love about this, is that we’re raising children who are concerned about the future of their earth. Who are conscientious about recycling and handing it down to their children. But I’ve never seen a child more excited about a tree. Malone legit hugged his before climbing on the school bus the other morning.
These are the things memories are made of.
So we loaded up the back of the truck, pulled around, and loaded our new friends to take them home.
But not without posing, first.
It should be noted that Jamin had help. ;} Those mugs are heavy.
When we got home after driving oh so carefully, it started to rain a little.
Each kiddo chose a spot for their tree, and we got to work.
Malone’s red maple went right beside our existing yellow maple in the front. You can see those giant branches all but dwarfing the baby tree here. We should have two beauties in the fall, big and small.
Emerson and Aiden’s went in the corner on the side and front – they love their new little locations.
Our kiddos are so very proud of their trees, they check on them daily.
It will be a fun process to watch them grow! A great way to celebrate Earth Day!
