We’ve perfected the most amazing homemade cinnamon bread recipe, and you don’t need to feed it constantly or a fancy bread baking machine. It doesn’t have to be frozen and you can do it whenever you decide. You can show up at your family Christmas, and impress everyone with your mad baking skillz. Or happily stay home and treat yo self. It’s easy peasy rice and cheesy. And we’re sharing a good cause to boot today, to go with it. You’re going to love it.
Once upon a time, I shared this homemade bread recipe. This is basically that, but with some added ingredients below to make it a homemade cinnamon bread. So if you don’t have a sweet tooth, or just want to get ready for round two of the apocalypse with cozy surroundings and eating all the bread {because who wouldn’t} here’s what you’ll need for your “base”.
Homemade cinnamon bread starter.
Stir or shake together in a glass pint jar:
• 1 cup warm water
• 1 pkg. yeast.
Add to yeast mixture and then stir or shake together:
• 3/4 c sugar + 3 T potato flakes
Cover jar loosely with lid and let it sit 2-4 days to ferment.
Homemade cinnamon bread step two:
Pour fermented mixture into a large bowl.
In the now empty jar, stir or shake together:
• 1.5 cups warm water + 1 pkg yeast + 2 T sugar
Add the new yeast mixture to fermented mixture in bowl.
Stir into bowl mixture:
• 1/2 c corn oil + 1 T salt + 6 cups of bread flour.
Generously grease a VERY large bowl. Put the dough in a bowl and turn over until all is greased. Cover with greased foil or waxed paper and let rise about 8 hrs or overnight, you are looking for it to double in size. After the dough has risen, {the fun part} punch it down, and knead.
If you’re doing the homemade cinnamon bread version, add this step in:
Mix together 3 cups of sugar with 1 cup of cinnamon. (You can also sub in brown sugar to change it up a bit.)
Knead 3/4 of this mixture into the dough until evenly spread throughout, and set the rest aside.
For both recipes, you’ll now divide it into 3 parts and knead each part. {Your kids will love playing with this dough!} Shape and put the portions into 3 greased pans. OR, roll into generous little balls, and place into muffin tins. Cover each pan with greased foil or waxed paper and let it rise 4-5 hours or until “swollen”.
Homemade cinnamon bread baking:
Once the loaves have risen, mix the remaining sugar and cinnamon mixture with 1 TBSP of butter until it makes a paste-like substance. Feel free to add more butter or more sugar/cinnamon. There is absolutely no shame in this and YOU SHOULD.
Spread this out over the top of each loaf.
Bake loaves at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
{This may vary based on your location} Stick a tooth pick or knife in to check that it is done and then turn out onto wire rack to cool, and pat yourself on the back for being the next Martha Stewart.
Next up: the icing recipe! AND THE GOOD CAUSE that’ll make that bread even sweeter!
Here’s what you’ll need:
•cream cheese
• powdered sugar
• vanilla
• water (or sub lemon juice for an added flavor)
We generally start with a base and then simply add to our taste.
The base is
• 1 c powdered sugar
• 1/2 c cream cheese
• 3 TBSP water or lemon juice
• 1 tsp vanilla {Vanilla Feeds Tomorrow – details on why you need this, below!}
Mix all this together.
It’s simple, really. One bottle provides 42 meals for East Tennessee families. Baking with a good cause! It also makes a great gift!
The best part? It was started by a 14 year old boy who has a heart for good things. He’s just the sweetest, y’all.
And the very best part because I’m totally biased and feeling like a good name drop? We know him in real life. {Santa! We know him!} He’s our cousin’s {really, they’re our friends so it feels funny to say relative’s} son and we’re just so proud of him. While we’ve shared it before, thought we’d share it again, here.
So if you’re looking for something thoughtful and one of a kind this holiday season, here you go.
Now with free gift wrapping, by the way. You can’t go wrong.
Check out this sweet little news story on him, here.
Slather it on, and eat it up. Know you’re doing something good, and give out that vanilla for an awesome gift with a good cause!
Yes, please.
And everyone will think you’re amazing.
We hope you enjoy this little recipe and as always, let us know if you try it and try out some of our other recipes!
Have an inspired day!
