What do you get when you combine…
Our marbleized jewelry for kids…
This simple coaster project…
and our hexagon magnets?
Marbelized hexacoasters, of course.
Okay fine. Maybe it was a stretch. And a little cheesy.
But we thought it would be fun to re-visit those projects this weekend with a bit of a hybrid of sorts, and we had so much fun… we just had to share.
There’s just something about creations from clay that never get old. So many possibilities in the diy world of fun stuff.
These little guys are so colorful and awesome, we’re kind of obsessed.
The perfect little accessory for any space,
Dinner partay,
And all around fun.
how to make marbleized coasters
So wanna make some? Here’s what you’ll need for your marbleized coasters:
• A rolling pin or jar and work surface {this clay will leave a residue behind when you work with it, so make sure you have something down on top of your surface – we worked on top of an old piece of foam core} • sculpey clay in various colors • this template {or if you want to keep them round, something like a small bowl or glass to “cut” with • gold paint and brush • baking pan and foil • X-Acto knife {if cutting from template}
how to make marbleized coasters – snake tip
Roll out your colors of choice into generous “snake” shapes – the more variation, the better.
how to make marbleized coasters – twist them
Then twist them together, and once twisted, roll them again into a snake.
how to make marbleized coasters – twist again…now roll
Once it’s nice and long, “fold” it in half, and twist together again.
how to make marbleized coasters – roll
Repeat again, and finally roll into a ball.
how to make marbleized coasters – flatten
Flatten the ball with your rolling pin,
and placing your template over your color combo, cut out your shape.
Depending on the various colors you use, will be the endless combos you can get. If you have any leftover clay from previous coasters {it took me a bit to realize how much I needed for that size} roll it up into it’s own snake, and play with those combos, as well.
You can even put various combos in your individual “snakes” and then combine them into one big one as you perfect your marble-makin awesomeness.
When you have enough to your liking, place them in the oven and bake according to the directions.
how to make marbleized coasters – polish edges
And when they’ve cooled, you can leave them as is, or polish off the edges with some of that gold leaf paint.
Note: depending on your humidity levels, it may take a bit for these to dry completely. But we love the final look they’re given with that coat of fun!
They would make the perfect gift for someone!
As always, let us know if you try them. Such a fun little crafty project for colorful accents around the house!
Have an inspired day!

Those are so fun, and seem like great additions to our Christmas tins we make for family every year. We include homemade treats, an ornament made by our daughter (and this year, daughters!), a family photo, and maybe this year, these fun coasters! Thanks for the inspiration. š

Hey girl, loving this idea, just wondering if you could use this in hollowed out logs for coasters, would it be possible to set the clay in the oven while in the wood.
Thanks, happy crafting
