We’re thrilled to announce today, that we’re a part of the FrogTape® 2018 Paintover Challenge!
What is that you may say?
A competition between six bloggers, to make over a room using FrogTape®. Each blogger is randomly assigned to one of FrogTape’s six 2018 Design Trends, and we’ve received a box of painting supplies along with a $1,000 budget to redesign a room. It’s here that we’ll share our posts of the process, featuring before, during and after posts. We’ll showcase our assigned trend, inspiration, and project progress!
Here’s the part where it gets a little competitive: Once each makeover has been posted, FrogTape® will then leave it to the public to vote on the winning Paintover Challenge project. The winner will receive $10,000 to donate to a charity, and the opportunity to be featured in a FrogTape® advertisement in HGTV Magazine.
So what room are we doing?
Now that our kids can spread out a little with the long awaited completion of our basement, we decided it was time to give our oldest, Aiden, a space of his own. He’s going to be thirteen this summer {hold me} and we want a classic space that will grow with him.
And what charity have we chosen?
Curechildhoodcancer.org You guys may or may not know that Jamin is a childhood cancer survivor. It’s a cause that’s more than near and dear to our hearts. He knows what it’s like, as a child, to go through something so life-altering. So we’re thrilled to announce that our winnings will go directly to this most important cause.
We hope that when the time comes, you’ll join us in voting, and share so that our cause can win! Even if our space isn’t any good. JK. It will be. But really. Donating to this cause is important, and something we’re truly passionate about. ;}
What theme were we assigned?
New England Preppy is the order of the day, with the description {you can read the rest of the spaces with their descriptions here, too}!
From their site:
And though this space was our office for a while, this is our official before.
This room got a little love in our renovation the first time around, but beyond our temporary office space, we can’t wait to share with you what the space is going to turn into!
Woot woot! We can’t wait to get started.
So with that New England Preppy style in mind, we wanted to do a little research on the inspiration side of things.
I love to keep the New England Preppy feel, with a little more ‘male tween’ thrown in, when it comes to a bedroom. There’s a lot to be said about taking a certain style, and fine tuning it a little to suit your specific needs. For instance, I’m not sure we’re going for the “sexy” side of New England Preppy, so much as a little of that preppy/camper vibe, with a dash of vintage touches and a little polish thrown in.
Here’s a few more images we pulled up in the name of inspiration and research.
This one is straight up New England Cottage Style, but I adore the colors and floors.
With a bit more of the modern in that “preppy” appeal.
– this one is actually from a store located in in NOLA but we thought it conveyed the same kind of ‘feel’ we wanted
There’s something about that campground style that gets me every time, especially when using it in tandem with the ideas we’ve already shared.
So I thought it would be fun to conjure my own plaid pattern in a quick sketch, when Jamin and I were having a brainstorming session. We knew the use of FrogTape® technology needed to be front and center for a fun pattern in the space. This wall concept will be the essential focal point of the space. And from there, we’ve started to pull together ideas.
We also made sure to get Aiden’s full on input, and we were more than thrilled to take this on with him. He’s shared his ideas every step of the way, and we love the way that we’ve all put our heads together for this space. We knew we wanted something he could use as a great backdrop, and add personal accents to, as he grows and his tastes change. We think this is a going to be a great springboard to which he can add his own touches!
We actually pulled together a few salvaged/pre existing pieces that, with a few new and a few repurposed, will come together to make the space.
Of course, all alongside that fabulous feel of handmade that we always love to incorporate into our spaces.
So this is what we have so far in the process, and we’re so excited to get started!
PSSST – {see part 2, here!}
We hope that you’ll continue to follow along with us on this journey, and when the time comes… vote!
As always, let us know if you have any questions.
Have an inspired day!

I adore this idea. Not many people take on tween boys rooms in the internet world, and we have one coming up on the horizon, too. I want to see what you do and know it will be great!
