It’s time to talk about primary closet design! I realized when I was pulling all of our updates together, that while we’ve tried to keep you posted as we moved along, we definitely haven’t talked any closet plans. And while we do have a big update coming, {I am currently the creepy lady stalking the tile guy by the hour–is it okay if I at least offer refreshments in between the visits?} we thought it would be fun to talk primary closets today. As we mentioned in a previous post, redneck Narnia is gone, and we can’t wait to start putting all of this together. It’s truly looking so good! We’re more than thrilled to move in and have it all put together. I have to say one of the things I’m looking the most forward to, is a real live closet! So today, I’m sharing a few of my ideas for a primary closet design.
In our last post, we shared how it’s all coming along. But if you’re wondering how all this is positioned, we have his and her closets in our primary addition, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it.
You can see where you walk through the bedroom hallway to the bathroom, right into the closet area.
If you’re wondering what on earth we’ve been up to these last few years, check out a history of our house, here. We’ve been in tight quarters for the past five years, so we’re kinda thrilled to redo this space for our daughter, while we move in downstairs.
Side note: This space has come a really long way – but we can’t wait to make it over for our daughter this summer! I think getting rid of the king sized bed alone, will make the space feel so much bigger.

But here is our new closet before we covered those windows – this is what’s on the other side…
It was this. I didn’t think I could like anything more than actual windows, but I was wrong.
And since we were building on, my closet is now on the other side of this {now non-existent window}.
Rigby still looks like a statue.
Drywalled it was this…
And now painted, it is starting to take shape! I don’t have a current photo of this pretty color because it’s currently filled with construction stuff. {We’re moving swiftly over here with tile, flooring and more!}
This closet is bigger than it looks in the photo, and it’s kind of hard to photograph with little lighting. I’m just thrilled to round up some smart pieces to help pull it together. It’s a big change from where we came from. Here are a few of my faves!
• It’s no secret around here that we adore Closets by Liberty. You can see more of our closet makeovers with them here + here. this will be our primary design within the closet. I love that these are adjustable to however you need it, especially in between two walls- like we need to work with. They also come with fabulous options like drawers and shelving. I’ll be placing one on each side of this closet, to make space for all things hanging clothes. And like icing on a really well planned cake, I’ll be topping it off with some more of their awesome hardware, here.
• Walls and flooring: Color {I love going dark so that those white shelves really pop} + Wood floors – I explained that, here. I’ve only changed my mind about floors about fifty times now. This one is sticking.
• Lighting: What good is a walk in closet without one styling chandelier? I’ve been drooling over this one for a while, especially when we installed one in a client’s gorgeous bath recently. {Reveal coming oh so soon on that one!} Combined with some under cabinet lighting… it’s going to be amazing if I do say so myself. {Can you tell I’m super excited?}
• Extra hooks: I have a small wall on the left, right when you walk in. I think a vertical hook situation like this would be perfect for yoga pants, bags, and more. Again, sourcing things for my clients is dangerous. It’s currently on backorder {wheee product delays!} but I’m sure I source a similar find.
• Baskets + boxes: here + here + here – or some similar. I’ll definitely be piecing these together slowly but surely.
• Shoe + jewelry area: Because this space is a tight fit, I’ll be toying around with the idea of some custom built shoe shelves… stay tuned! This is like a rough draft for what I’m thinking: An idea I have for an old frame I’ve held on to, paired with wiring for a great big jewelry holder!
• Mirror + Rug + Bench – because accents are important, too.

So this is the beginning of putting all this together… and hurray for organization! Wish us luck with all the things we have ahead of us. In the meantime, it’s fun to daydream about organization. Hurray for closets!
What is something that’s been invaluable to your own closet organization? We’d love to hear.
Have an inspired day!
