We’re still here. I feel like its been a minute since we’ve actually checked in, and that’s a little rare for us.
It’s been a crazy week with minimal posting, because we’ve been rolling with the punches from finishing things up, like stained glass and electrical inspections, in between client meetings, and real-life work stuff. We just might be moving in VERY soon – all fingers crossed – updates coming, I promise. Basically, our life is just chaos right now. We’re exhausted.
In the meantime, I’ve planned out the kiddos’ bedrooms, because priorities. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, we’re currently building our primary suite after waiting for five years and the kids will finally get their own spaces. Our middle will receive our old space, and our youngest will stay in the space they’re currently sharing.
Yes, it feels a little like this. It’s not.
There’s something about feeling unsettled for five years that makes me want to wrap this up with a bow, and have their spaces finished for them, as soon as possible. They’ve always shared a space in one way or another. So between waiting a long time to get their own rooms, us needing a little separation between bedrooms, and a third toilet in the house for five people {THREE TEENS!} after years of waiting… we couldn’t be more thrilled.
But wait, there’s more! {Read this in your best salesman pitch voice in a bad 80’s commercial} After we finish this primary addition, we’ll be moving out to continue the floors throughout the house, because of that leaky faucet we experienced this winter that destroyed a portion of our current hardwoods. True to form, it’s very much an “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” kind of situation over here, because said hardwoods have since been discontinued. Wheeee! That’s why we went with the white oak version in our addition, {if you’ve caught our stories on instagram} but I’ll share more on that VERY soon. We’re just ready to be done so we can enjoy the summer while also managing our own business. We’re getting new projects off the ground, and trying to wrap up some very exciting older ones. We’re not kidding when we tell clients that we know what this feels like.
To my point because I did feel like we needed a bit of an update before I dive in… today I thought I’d keep it short but sweet: Teen Girl Room Inspiration! Really it’s just ideas for Emerson’s space, but it’s strung together with throwback to the past house, sales + smart finds, recycled things and facebook marketplace steals. She’s helped me piece this together and may be my toughest client yet, {14 going on 30} but we’ve found some fun pieces that should grow with her. Because practicality is the name of the game right now. Here we are! I’ve listed all the finds below.
• Bed + Nightstands + Sconces:
Bed: True story, I actually saved this bed design years ago, and then circled back around later. I had no idea that I’d actually saved it, until I found it in an old Pinterest board a few weeks ago. It’s funny how we’re repeatedly drawn to the same things that we love. I scored a very affordable find here.
Nightstands: I mean who doesn’t need a little pink in their lives.
Sconces: I love the idea of keeping nightstands free for other things – these were a Facebook marketplace score.
• Chandelier: If you remember her old room… this was one comforting thing to her that we could basically bring with us/replace when we moved.
• Dresser: We’re handing this one down. It was ours from forever ago. Yes, it goes way back.
• Curtains: We thought it would definitely be great to spruce up the windows with something fun. I scored these on sale.
• Art: Another throw back to her old space, though I do plan to bring in something else with some paintings.
• Bust: We’re collecting old brooches and pins together – at our last flea market adventure we scored a few more! Check out the entire post here. We’re also incorporating some fun vintage finds like this cute little portable radio. She saw this one at the flea market and HAD to have it… I couldn’t argue. It has her name, after all. ;}
• Paint colors: SW Tidewater on the ceilings + Egret White on the walls for soft, classic finishes.
• Shelf + Boards: This shelf has actually been sitting in storage the ENTIRE TIME waiting to make its debut once again. A throwback from her original nursery, I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring it back. Yes, I tend to be a creative hoarder since I’m an artist who also runs and business and stoplookingatmeswan. It’s a great, classic piece. I plan to flank it with these two ridiculously large bulletin boards {scored on major sale} so that she has control over a fun area that she cans switch up, often.
Bedding + Rug: Chenille bedspread {with fringe for the win!} / quilt / tiger pillow / Moroccan pillow + yellow / sheets / rug
SO… I shared all this with a little bit of an update, to say we’re slowly but surely getting there. I can’t wait to show you the progress we’ve made, oh so soon!
Have an inspired day!
