Happy Day, wonderful friends! The fabulous Kristin from The Hunted Interior is back today, to tell us all about one of her smart latest projects. ;} So without further ado…
Hey it’s Kristin back from The Hunted Interior & today I am sharing the easiest & the longest project I have ever completed. Seriously, this project took a year to complete but couldn’t be any easier. And if you’re lucky, you might just have the materials in your yard to get started right now!!!
We came across these freshly cut stumps last year that were the perfect end table size… only problem was, they were freshly cut. Being that they were fresh, they still had a lot of moisture within them. If we would have sealed them right then & there, they would have eventually rotted out… not the end goal for sure. So what’s a girl to do?! Leave them outside to dry…
Since we didn’t have an indoor space such as a garage or basement to allow them to dry in, our process took a bit longer. Exaggeration. A LOT longer. In a controlled temperature these can be ready in a month or so, but being that ours were outside in the elements, it took nearly a year. They were actually ready mid winter… but I wasn’t!
You’ll know they are ready when this starts to happen with just a little effort…
The bark literally peels off the stump with just a simple pull & maybe the addition of a chisel & hammer for a few awkward spaces.
After the bark is completely removed, sand the entire log with a medium grit sandpaper. I am usually the first to pull out the power tools, but it wasn’t necessary here. Just a few passes by hand did the trick.
To add some color I added a coat of Outdoor Porch & Floor Paint to the top. Once dry, I sealed the entire stump with a Marine Spar Varnish I had leftover from our Live Edge Table.
After the “drying” period, this project was completed in just a few hours. Ours is used as a stool, table or plant stand depending on the amount of guests we have.
I have been shamelessly teasing my readers with sneak peeks of our new patio for months now on Instagram. But all will soon be revealed on Home Depot’s Blog The Apron very soon! So be on the lookout.

Thanks so much Kristin! Isn’t she fabulous? Certainly keep your eyes peeled for their makeover… she gave me a sneak peek last week and I was drooling…
Have an inspired day, lovely friends!

I think I will send DH out into the wilderness now to cut me a stump. Yes, yes indeed. We don’t have stumps in our area so I will definitely be on the lookout for one.

Can somebody es-plain to me how Kristin can do things so simply, beautifully, and innovatively? Can somebody please es-plain to me how to spell “innovatively”? I love the yellow top so so much!! Super excited to see the deck reveal too! Bye.
