Happy Friday everyone! I’m going to make today’s post short and sweet. Jamin has been out of town, and to summarize, I’m exhausted from an allergy issue I’ve had as well. I’m pooped, and I think its because I lack the ability to rest, but that’s another rant for another day. So I wanted to leave you with some fabulous eye candy, and a little update on my sofa conundrum. {Soon to be followed with a things-I-learned-from-Craigslist post.} Let’s begin, shall we?
I know most of you have probably heard of Truck Furniture.
If you haven’t, then yay me! I beat someone else to the punch!
And if you haven’t, let me put it this way. Vintage industrial + mid century modern + awesome droolfest = Truck. They’re a company located in Japan.
Which begs the question : why do all the great things reside in other countries?
All their prices are written in Japanese. {Yen?} So I have no clue what their price range is. We’re going to pretend that it’s über expensive and resist the urge to jump in a plane and fly over there, all for the sake of furniture, mmmmkay? (read: I’m too lazy to do the conversion because it’s too far away. But it sure is purdy.)
{ahhhhhhh! Angels. Are. Singing.}
And there you have it. A bit of a rando-lovely-mid-century-modern-vintage-industrial-droolfest for you this morning. So close yet so far away.
Speaking of so close yet so far away…
I’ve been staring at fabric samples and sofas for so long, I could have sworn my eyeballs were about to dry up and roll outta this head of mine. But I’ve collected both my sofas, {that in itself is a very long story}. The fabrics above are for my chairs (the ones I already have in my living room) and my Duncan Phyfe I’ve already given you a peek of, seen below, left. Drum roll please: {Don’t get too excited…but here are both of my basic sofa forms.}
I know you can’t tell much from the sofa on the right. I fully intend to get better before photos before the deed is done. But the sofa on the left (the Duncan) will be reupholstered in a pretty, lighter linen with contrasting double piping, and think modern buttons.
Don’t worry. I’ll explain all of my ideas later, {I know you’re soooo excited!} I’m also in the process of fabric design for all my pillows, which, as all of you know, are like icing on the cake in the world of finished spaces. This will be all of my explanation for now, until I can share a bit more of the step by step with you, and my thought process behind it all.
In the meantime, here’s another small teaser for you:
No, we’re not building a swimming pool in our back yard. That isn’t even our backyard. Nor is it in Montgomery. This is another project I’ve had in the works for a while, that I hope to share more with you soon. But that wood is formerly part of a 75 year old barn that was recently torn down. And part of it now belongs to me…
Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and let’s just say I have some awesome friends.
Like I said…I’m tired.
Happy weekend, everyone!

You said Montgomery, is that Montgomery AL? I am about to move to Montgomery and if there are some fantastic home stores/thrift shops/etc., then I would love to know what they are. Thanks.

That couch on the right looks just like the one I have. It is made for really tall people. My feet do not even touch the ground when I sit on it. I have been on craigslist for months waiting on an Ikea Karlstad sectional. Found 2 but they went in a matter of minutes. 🙁 So the hunt continues.
Can’t wait to see yours when they are done.

TRUCK? Awesome stuff! Your furniture plans? I’m beside myself with anticipation/envy. Old Barn wood? MAJOR score. Lucky girl!!
Hope your allergies improve; been there!
have a great weekend!!

You are correct to assume Truck is expensive. I did the conversion on the GATTO Cupboard=$6155.24. It all still rocks! Maybe you should start building some of those great pieces and sell them.

Hi! I LOVE your blog – I’ve been stalking it for a while and you have given me some GREAT inspiration for when we move in the fall. I’m curious to see how you combine these two sofa styles…we have one similar to the one you are going to slipcover and we are possibly inheriting one similar to the other one that you bought. I’d really like to combine the two but have no idea how to mesh the two styles, so keep the pictures and blogs coming! Also, where are you getting your slipcover from? I’d love to see a blog on how to find the perfect slipcover. It seems a great and affordable concept to me, but I don’t want to deal with “fixing” it every time my little ones decide to jump/wrestle/play on the sofa. Thanks for sharing your inspiration with the world!!

I was insppppiiiired! It must have been meant to be because I saw this blue beauty about 30 mins after it was posted on craigslist- and I bought it… for $25!!! I am stoked to get it into our place next month.

Fun to learn about this furniture from your Mad Men post! It looks like some of the things we can find at AREA here in Portugal. Not sure if they import or create their things. I chuckled at your comment about having all the good stuff overseas. I am very thankful for the amazing things we’ve been able to find while living in Europe, yet I’m not sure if everyone would trade it for all the things we miss in America. Yes, it would be nice to have the best of both worlds. 🙂
