I think we all hurry to grow up under a misguided sense of how easy and cool it is to be an adult. And while I wouldn’t go back to the braces-wearing, awkward 7th grade years, no one warned me properly about adulthood. The learning curve never stops, and there’s a lot to take care of.
Adulting is hard.
Just researching your decisions alone can eat up a large chunk of your free time. From parenting, to health insurance, to home ownership… it’s a lot.
I mean yeah, sure… Google and eating all our feelings make things easier, but y’all really. The decisions.
Especially the big ones. The ones that’ll stick around for awhile. There’s all that second guessing and uncertainty and am-I-making-the-right-choice anxiety. Why can’t there be an adult around to help you figure it out, take responsibility, and assure you it’s all going to be okay while you sit by obliviously eating your Fun Dip?
We’ve received a lot of questions since we moved in, but this one is the most asked: How are you liking those windows?
One of the biggest, yet easiest decisions we made in updating our home was choosing a window company to work with. We’re so glad we picked Window World.
If you’ve missed any part of the story, you can follow the links with our process:
• Why it’s good to replace your windows
• The process of installing new windows
• Combining the new with the old
I think one of the most difficult things about choosing windows, is that we were replacing the original ones. We weren’t starting from scratch so we had to conform the new to the old. We needed to work with someone who could handle it easily.
And then there’s that element of the kids: I’m just waiting on the first object to fly through our new windows because that’s life.
Or forget the kids, how about the dogs? Those dogs are the equivalent to two rambunctious four year olds. We have more squirrels and birds in our yard than Jellystone, and I promise you those windows are so beautifully clear, that they easily bring the outside in. There might have been a time or two that they leap onto said windows barking at all. Of. The. Things.
So yeah, it’s crossed my mind on whether or not the windows are as strong as they told us they were… even if I did stand on them.
Did they do a good enough job building them, and installing them to fit this old house?
Thankfully, Window World has a fantastic warranty. But we all know someone with a horror story about a company with a great warranty, right?
That’s why we were super excited to know that not only does Window World have a great warranty and a lot of accreditations, but they are backed by the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.
And if you’re anything like me, you probably think Good Housekeeping is that nostalgic magazine that sits at your grandmother’s house. But it’s so much more.
We had the pleasure of visiting their headquarters in NYC this past fall.
We learned so much about what they do, and what the seal really means.
It’s this great collection of research labs filled with fabulous people, who have some pretty awesome jobs. They literally bring in thousands of products and perform rigorous tests on them. My favorite section was the kitchen testing lab. It’s my dream job because to test kitchen stuff, you have to cook things and if things are cooked you have to eat said things, right?
But I digress.
So after they test all the products and write their reviews on them, a few, and a very select few, get what is called the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.
I’d always thought that meant that they just handed out a thumbs up. Boy, was I wrong.
I had no idea that not only have they tested the products, but that the ones which receive the seal are also warrantied by Good Housekeeping.
Say what?
I know, right?
Not only does Window World offer an amazing warranty, but Good Housekeeping has come along and said “We will warranty it, too.” (You can read all about the GH seal here.)
Sold.
I’m telling you, I had no idea how much that seal meant until we visited the headquarters ourselves. It is a really big deal.
In our old house, we had a window build up condensation over time. We’d paid for it, of course, but it came with no warranties. So guess who was stuck replacing it? Paying for something twice that was supposed to hold up, isn’t very fun.
It’s literally like someone coming in and saying, “Good job. You made a great choice, and we’re here to help you out if you need us.” Which means I can feel good about my decision and go back to eating Fun Dip.
But the great thing is that Good Housekeeping has no ties to Window World, so they don’t profit from the company in any way. They’ve just tested the product so much and have seen such good results that they are willing to put their money and reputation behind it.
Think about that.
It’s pretty amazing.
And we’ve been pretty amazed with the windows ourselves.
Even if the dogs do keep getting them dirty with their little wet noses.
Can Good House Keeping come clean them for us, too? ;}
Have an inspired day, and keep an eye out for that Good Housekeeping seal on your new Window World windows.

I can honestly say I’ve never really paid attention to that stuff before so thank you for breaking it down! Love the dogs. They are just precious.
Where can I get the cute chicken cookie jar?? Love it!
Hey, Liz.
We actually sell it in the shop. https://www.thehandmadehome.net/product/rufus-the-rooster/
I must say I LOVE the backsplash in the kitchen. Is it tile? I cannot tell, but it is so lovely!!! Who makes it?
Hi Rose! Thank you so much. It is a combination of two tile patterns – you can read all about the details with direct links here – I hope that helps!
