This year has demanded a lot of pivoting in so many ways, especially with everyone working from home. We’ve been more than thrilled to help clients figure out ways to adapt in their own homes, to make the space one that they love. This particular family was looking to make more sense of their home, in a more organized way. With two growing children, they needed to be able to create an office space so they could work from home, and provide a workspace for their children from a rarely used hallway and upper room area.
So we were more than happy to help. This area to the left of the wall, held seldom used storage, as a long, awkward closet. It made more sense to push it back, to create a desk area and workspace for their two daughters. A great way to use forgotten real estate.
They were also able to enclose this open room into a much-needed office area.
We loved assisting them in the reconfiguration and design!
This long storage area became a smaller closet, where their children can play and store their toys in their little area, in between school work.
And once the wall was knocked back and completed, butcher’s block made it a complete built in desk area.
Of course, true to form once it was finished, we loved bringing in some fun accents to help complete the look!
It’s so simple but made such a big impact on the space, we love how far it’s come.
It was easy to decorate with our free printables. Bulletin boards become both functional and fun with finished pieces.

The fresh new color alone, did so much to lighten and brighten their upstairs space.
We love how welcoming it feels now!
From easy bright accents to simple functional finds, this space is just an easy peasy change with great practical changes for their family.
We love what a simple, fun before and after this makes a once-functionless hallway.
Here’s a simple round up in case you’re in the market to create this look on your own:
Sources: {may contain some affiliate links}
butcher’s block/ chairs / filing cabinets / rug / paint color – sherwin williams sea salt
accents: whale / tape dispenser / crayons / lamps / organizer / bulletin board / planner {with printable accents}
These ghost chairs really save space with their great design, and the filing cabinets keep things practical in the organization category.
Once upon a time, this was just a little narrow hallway with an open space at the end that they didn’t really use…
Now it’s a bright and happy space that works hard for their family!
We adore happy organization to keep things in place, and more.
We’re smitten with this rug + the price, and we love the color it really brought to the space.
We’re kind of in love with these bright happy changes!
We hope you’ve enjoyed this little mini-tour today for such a simple space. This change is a testament how re-thinking a space with little changes, can truly make a big difference in a home.
As always, let us know if we can help point you in the right direction, or answer any questions.

I am curious what the depth and length of this nook is to fit the chairs and cabinets. Thank you!
