Hey all you wonderful people! Remember this post? We’ve had a blast working with Scotch, and were thrilled to partner with them again for a creative transformation with their great tape. We decided to take the practical approach for the home in a transformation with… (drum roll please) duct tape.
The subject: an unsuspecting, plain jane table.
For Emerson’s room, we’re about to up the ante a bit in the big girl department, with brighter colors and fun, subtle changes. So we decided it was time for a new side table. We scored this chippy, old 80’s fantabulous table at the local flea market. {The photo doesn’t do it ustice, but just know it formerly resided in the glory days of 1983.} Here’s how we changed it:
Tada! From drab + dull to fresh + fun, here’s how we did it.
After a light clean up, we took this table outside, and gave her a few coats with a spray-on primer. This particular table came with glass. So while it dried, we took some cardboard, and laid the glass top on top. Tracing around the glass, and onto the cardboard, we had our initial shape to work with, as a base for the tape. (Just a side note: While this particular piece came with its own glass, you can give any piece of furniture that extra polish or protective top, for a very reasonable price. Simply take it to your local glass company, and they can do the rest.)
Once the cardboard was traced, we cut, and started placing strips of Scotch Duct Tape in alternating colors for a striped pattern on top. Their duct tape comes in all kinds of flavorful goodness, but we decided to go with a simple yellow and white combo. We sliced the yellow pieces down the middle to half its width. We cut the end pieces to fit around the curved shape, and alternated around the edges for every other color. We didn’t bother measuring…we simply eyeballed as we went for a fun look. When we were finished, we set it aside, and painted the table. With a white border and a grey finish, a two toned look with a fun striped top was just the trick. Glass polished it off in the final look, for a durable piece for little gal’s space!
So there you have it. A simple way to spruce up your home with none other than Scotch Colors and Patterns Duct Tape.
