how to change your name on facebook

Hello lovely friends! We hope this post finds you doing well, and having a great week.

Our post today, is a little beyond our ordinary realm of topic. You guys may have noticed recently that we finally changed our group name on Facebook. (YEEHAW!)

It may seem like small potatoes to some, but for anyone who owns a business and has ever wanted to change their name… this was kind of a big deal. (Small victories!)

If you’re fairly new in these here parts, once upon a time we were known as Pure + Lovely. And after finding our voice, our heart and the real personality behind our website, we changed it to The Handmade Home.

In real life, we thought it was too late to do anything about our Facebook group. According to everyone and their grandmother, it’s too late once you pass the 200 mark, right? I went round and round in useless link circles, with the same obnoxious answers. We kept hearing of an ever elusive solution, but everywhere we looked lead to dead ends. I mean, who has time for this, anyway?

I felt a little bit like this every time we tried to figure it out:

no!

Then enter the FABULOUS Lindsay from Makely Home, and we went from utter frustration and despair (with the fear of looking like dog breeders for the rest of our lives (pure + lovely) + dog button + no one knew who we were when we posted to our news feed + no one really cares but it was the principle to us = firstworldproblems)…

To this:

hurray!

Lindsay was so beyond awesomely kind to help us with this little conundrum. We figured after getting quite a few questions about it, you guys might have the same problem of looking like dog breeders when you’re really just a legit website backed up by some fun people who decided to change their names once upon a time… as well.

And if not, stick it in your back pocket to save for a friend later. You never know when you’ll need this one.

So without further ado (and at risk of angering the facebook gods) we thought we’d share this little how to with all of you!

How_to_change_your_facebook

On your page, go to edit your page’s profile.

Edit page – update info.

Where it says category, choose Companies & Organizations, and then Company.

Save your changes at the bottom of the page.

When your page reloads, you will have the option to change your page’s name.

Seize the moment. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

There will be a question mark by the name entry.

Click that link, and put in your name change.

Here’s the doozy. You have to upload a document to facebook proving that you are in fact, who you say you are. (A drop down box will pop up that you can use.)

Apparently, they do this to prevent a bunch of weirdos from making a group, changing the name, and selling it for profit. For example, you “like” How to Prepare for the Zombie Apocalypse on facebook, and the next morning you wake up and it’s The Passive Aggressive Hate Group for Braided Jewelry. And you’re all what? We wanted ZOMBIES and machetes! And I LIKE braided jewelry! My life is OVER! NOOOOOOOOO! Apparently, this would make people feel violated. Sold like cattle to slaughter with little or no regard for their ultimate feelings. A true tragedy indeed.

So, you can use a utility bill, articles of incorporation, or any other legit documents to prove you are, in fact, a real person, and not a big fat weirdo.

changing_facebookAnd then you wait. Here’s the kicker: we were denied twice. They told us it would be too confusing. When we asked why, there was no answer. Silence, from the great facebook gods had us reeling in fear. So we got all rebellious and stuff and just kept re-submiting, until it went to someone else who was feeling the love that day in the higher realms of facebook.

It was probably Justin Timberlake. I’m pretty sure he reads our blawgh.

I always picture him sitting in a big corporate office with his feet on a desk and the giant FACEBOOK logo in the background. (See: The Social Network) (Also See: Self important fantasies where he and Jessica want to build a loft just like ours for their future babes and then come over to dinner while we all hang out.) Thanks, Justin! We love you!!!

Justin-Timberlake-the_handmade_homeWe hope this helps shine some light on the subject. It should work, no matter what your numbers!

PSST….If our facebook group goes down, they found this post.

Have an inspired day, wonderful friends. Let us know if this helps you! ;}

I just changed mine! I’ve had a typo in mine since the beginning and it BUGGED me so bad!! (Blessings Unlimited – Christian Gifts and Home Decor… before I changed it, the D in Decor was lowercase). I didn’t have any problems, just clicked on edit page then update info and it let me change my name and save. Thanks!!

It seems that you have a “page” and not a “group”. Do you know by chance how to change a group? The setting buttons are not the same…
