Hey guys! You’re in for something super inspiring today:
We’re honored to have Lindsay from The White Buffalo Styling Co. back, to share her latest oh so clever project with all of you! This gal is for real, y’all. I’m now searching for one of those old crusty bookcases. So without further ado…
I found this small, wooden bookcase at a thrift store for $10 back when we bought our house…
…and I immediately knew where it would go. In this blank corner of the kitchen (to the right of the hood), I pictured some sort of coffee and baking station.
I knew this bookcase would be perfect.
I initially thought we would add doors to it since we already have open shelving in the kitchen, but decided against it. It’s easier to use and I actually like the look of the open shelves with canisters and some pretties.
I always planned to paint it with the wood beam right beside it and considered painting it a color. But after the green island, I decided white would look best and blend in.
We screwed some small brass hooks into the bottom of the bookcase to have coffee cups readily available.
I am loving the open shelves where we can just grab what we need very easily. I really wanted a coffee and baking station, so naturally, I needed the coffee maker and mixer on hand. Of course, our outlet was in the dead center and I didn’t want cords stretched everywhere as you see above or the two appliances side by side.
My solution?
Bring in a picture to cover it! But not just any picture….I framed this handwritten recipe from my mom for Joy Candy. This is a really iconic sweet recipe for our family, so it’s special to see it up here.
And it covers those pesky cords.
I used an old sugar mold to keep our measuring cups and whisks close at hand.
On the shelves, I stacked some extra teacups and saucers (I love those vintage cups with the gold trim), some canisters with coffee and baking goodies, and a little Christmas decor.
I love the cinnamon sticks and tiny trees.
I made these JOY napkins last year and had to include it in case there was a spill. Oh and because it’s pretty and makes me happy.
And most of all, I love it in the room.
It’s useful, but I’ve got to admit, I think it’s pretty too 🙂
And now that this is out of the way, after we hang a few things and do other tiny updates like make a light fixture, the kitchen will finally be finished!
Now, I’m ready to bake some Christmas cookies, or better yet Joy Candy, and make me a cup of Candy Cane tea.

This is so clever! How many times have I seen a bookcase like this at the store and walked right past it? It goes to show how looking at things differently can certainly pay off! SO great.
