psssst…. shop our spaces here!
Remember Heather + Andrew’s Story? For us, its the stories behind the spaces, and they’re the reason why we do what we do. So if you haven’t checked it out, I encourage you to do so before our big reveal today!
We were honored to take on this project in collab with some good friends of Andrew’s, who are builders here in Nashville- we adore working with them and feel like we’re a dream team together for such an important project. And I have to say that while I was shooting this one, I got a bit of master bath/bedroom envy over here because we are absolutely in love with the way this one turned out!
And we believe Andrew is, too.
So to give you a little bit of perspective, here’s what we did with the floorpan – the original layout had the entire bedroom, with a tiny bath and closet behind the {current} bed area. So we made space within the footprint, to add both a nice sized closet, and bath where the old closets once stood. It made the bedroom a bit smaller, but also allowed for what Andrew and his kiddos actually need. Behind the space, we’ll be sharing more in the future, but instead of a tiny closet, he also has a larger, functioning laundry space. More on that coming up.
So in the name of a good before and after, here’s a before of their bedroom…
And an after. Heather really liked the color Woodrow Wilson Putty by Valspar, and modern combined with rustic. So we decided to use that as our jumping off point for the bedroom.
We adore the way it worked together with layers of warm textures and pretty, contrasting cool hues.
We brought in masculine elements, with a soft twist for Andrew’s ultimate retreat – we thought this was so important for him. It’s really the nicest thing anyone can do for themselves.
Here’s a before from another angle…
Andrew requested a bookshelf for his space, as he’s an avid reader and needed a little storage for all things sentimental and books. We were so glad to bring in simple accents, along with his kiddos’ art, photos, and some Awesome art a-la their recent trips to Africa.
The original bathroom looked like this:
Plastic tiles, and all.
It wasn’t even a full bath, so we were more than thrilled to bring in a clawfoot tub on the opposite side of the space.
And now he has this:
I even shamelessly laid in it when it was installed – I was reminded how much I really REHEALLY miss our old bathtub.
The kitchen and kiddos’ hallway bath are next, and they needed a full sized bath somewhere in the house. This is a game changer for them.
Also a huge addition that was a big fat game changer? These beautiful new windows from Window World. Seriously, they’re a draw dropping addition in both the bathroom and bedroom, for opening up the space and all things new.
The double vanity offers Andrew lots of space, and serves as a great accent with lots of character.
His space was once tight in the room, but now he has storage under the bed for clothing, as well as the new dresser and closet.
Storage was key in this revamp and we were so thrilled to offer some great options. We combined some new bedding with the old, and loved topping it off with art from us, just for him.
We repurposed their old side tables, along with some newer brass lamps they already owned. We love the juxtaposition of industrial black with hints of golden finishes, along with the rustic touches of wood and old books.
And of course, a little color in unexpected ways.
The jar you can see on Andrew’s new bookshelf was discovered under the house when they ripped up the flooring to do some new plumbing. He said he didn’t want it, and I was all, whaaaat???! You have to keep the asbestos covered septic pot for your bookshelf! DUH! So a new home was found and I don’t know about y’all but we’re loving it. It was meant to live on his bookshelf.
In lieu of glass in a tight space, since Andrew and his kiddos needed a tub too… we went for easy glamor mixed with masculine. There’s something kind of fun about a fully functioning shower combined with a clawfoot tub. You just don’t see them much anymore, and we loved combining all the elements.
That tile and color combo though. We love how everything is metallic and neutral, and then you turn the corner and there’s a burst of blue.
Right?!
Kichler was thrilled to pitch in on this fabulous project and we think that these vanity lights really polished off the bathroom.
Everything glimmers and the lights just add to all that sparkle.
That tub though. Would it be creepy if I asked to use it?
Yeah. I thought so. Shhhhh.
Of course, these Union + Dixie candles are always a go-to for us. In any space. Alabamboo anyone?
Our absolute fave + a must have element for any retreat ;} Be sure to check out their business, with local handmade candles!
