If you dropped by in the middle of the holidaisical apocalypse, then you know that right before Christmas, we received our second biggest gift since we’ve taken over the money pit project, when we finished our basement area! Happy dances, victory laps, Merry Christmas to us, and everything in between. We’re beginning to cover a few of our plans for all things fun and finishing it off… and in the meantime, wanted to share all the little things that make it oh so fun. A few days ago we covered the sitting area, and today we’re thrilled to talk all things entryway design plans!
Things have come a long way since our original intentions for the space, and we can honestly say that living above the basement for one year gave us time to think about all our needs as a family. We were able to be intentional with how each area is treated and finished off.
We probably should have started this little what-we’re-doing-in-the-basement, with the entryway. But I got excited and did the whole sitting area plans, first. Because it has been mass chaos through the front door as the main entryway, {ew hardwood floors and rain and snow} we couldn’t be more thrilled about this downstairs side entry we’ve added to the house.
We still lack a little more painting when the weather warms up a bit – last week in it’s entirety was a snow week, and nowhere near suitable conditions for all things outdoor paint. But we’re almost done with the outside stuff. We’re SO ready to have it under wraps – and we already adore the way the side of the house looks!
{Here’s what it looked like last week: No, we can’t wait to tackle all things landscaping this spring, either!}
By the time we actually designed a hall tree for the space, this is what I’d cooked up, {alongside some super sophisticated dog crates.} While our plans changed a little even beyond that, this is the original sketch, and then this is what was built.
I love how it was fine-tuned into the final look, and we’re adoring this space for our family.
I’ve spent the last few weekends beginning to organize it all, so I can’t wait to show you how far it has come!
So here are the details on all things entryway:
We had the hall tree designed and built – just like the other built-in shelves. We can’t wait to bring in organizing elements like baskets and bins and all things containers to hold our endless collection of shoes. It’s already made a huge difference – and the snow this past week was a dream instead of a total nightmare with a large open area for everyone to pile into after hours of sledding.
Hooks:
We scored number hooks 1-5 from here
Lights:
These {GAWGEOUS} brass lights are from Kichler and we are absolutely smitten.
Rug:
We can’t wait to put this runner from Loloi to good use
To the right of the hall tree, we have plans for a refreshments center of sorts for all things guests and children. We’re thrilled to bring back our Big Chill, {oh how I’ve missed it!} and have plans for that little area in between the hall tree and fridge, as well. Read: Still figuring it out.
Tile:
This is what we’ve had the most questions on… becuase it’s actually porcelain tile. Flooring and fabulous tile are from Jeffrey Court and the name is Oakwood Lilly. We love giving it a modern edge with fun, geometric lines.
Paint colors: {We tied them in with the rest of the house}
- PURE WHITE {HGSW4006}: trim, ceilings, and our main cabinets.
- SAND DOLLAR {HGSW3117} on our kitchen island.
- NEBULOUS WHITE {HGSW4057}: On our walls
- DIVERSE BEIGE {HGSW3086}: A few of our doors for a nice deeper grey, and accent colors throughout the home.
- SWIMMING {HGSW1327}: (In case you were wondering) The blue you spy throughout the rest of the home, on the ceilings + some walls!
Here’s what we have so far… on something so seemingly simple that also means so much to the design of the space, and our family’s organization with all things catch-alls and after school chaos. Yay for shoe and bag corralling! To say it has already brought a lot of order to all things usually disorganized, would be an under statement.
As always, thanks for tuning in. I believe we have some wallpaper going up soon, and while we’ll be waiting on a few key pieces, we can’t wait to show you more as the space nears its completion.
UP next: the new studio plans I’ll be sharing soon.
Have an inspired day!

Can I just say “Wow!”? It is looks great–I truly admire how you make your home something that works for your family. My attempts in that area are met with doubt as to whether or not we would be able to sell our house. So I will continue to live vicariously through you!

Beautiful! Question…are your built-ins stained or painted? Just curious. Either way, looks awesome and looks like it will work hard for your family!

Oh my that space is a crazy transformation. I can’t decide what’s my favorite about it. Well really the entire thing. I love how you took something so ugly and made it amazing! I love those lights, I need some in my life. And that tile! I’ve never seen anything like it and I like it better than what’s in the board. You amaze me! Now I’m off to coping you in our home. Ha!
