When we found what we now affectionately refer to as “The Money Pit” two years ago, we knew we were embarking on quite the adventure. The first obvious sign was the front porch would need a makeover.
We just didn’t know how much of one.
We’ve loved every moment of it… even the harder parts. We’d have to say especially those because nothing grows character like a huge risk and managing all the stress that comes with it. (All the details of said adventure can be found in order, here. Just start at the last page and move forward. ;}) But I said all of that to say, that this is what it looked like when we found it that day.
Front porch makeover – How we found it:
This past Fall, we were thrilled to take on an outside rehab of the house, with the fabulous Window World. And with a little Spring in the air sponsored in part by the last few weeks, we were finally able to complete painting the outside, and do a little sprucing to our little front porch.
Front porch makeover – Moving in:
We have so much left to do in the land of all things yard work, so that isn’t lost on us. No, really. It’s to that point. {Insert cringy face emoji here since we totally have our work cut out for us}
And we actually can’t wait to get started this year. But we did want to share a little more of the fabulous outside rehab, and the sweet touches we’re adding to it including a front porch makeover. In other words, the outside is starting to match the inside, and the pizza guy can no longer say he thought the house was abandoned every time he delivers a pizza. That, my friends, is a proud moment for us.
Front porch makeover – Adding chairs:
When we moved into this house, I knew we wanted some rocking chairs with a little personality on the front porch. For some reason {and yes, probs because the old ones were already there} I had visions of rocking chairs dancing in my head. So I was ecstatic to bring in some color with a combo of some old pillows I still have, and the chairs I’d been obsessing over for two years. {They went on sale, and we pulled the trigger a few weeks ago}. We love the fun flair they bring! And they are an easy step for a front porch makeover.
The way the sunlight shines on this side of the house in the “golden hour” is a treat each day.
Front porch makeover – Front door:
We still absolutely love our front door from Window World. I know right? Who knew they made such things? This door feels like luxury.
I even went a little cray and purchased this wreath when I spied it online to deck it out for spring. For a little bit of that wildflower look and goodness. We felt like our front porch makeover could use a little color.
And we were thrilled to see flowers in the local home improvement store when we ventured out the other day. We’re just thrilled to see flowers at all, at this point. We still haven’t adjusted to the whole Tennessee weather thing- it takes it a little longer to arrive here. {We were in the tropics of South Alabama, before.}
Front porch makeover – Columns:
Our old columns were rotting out – to the point where if we’d karate kicked them, they would have all come tumbling down.
These new columns from Afco totally changed the look of the house. We have another post coming your way on the posts {see what we did there? Yes, I should probably have more coffee before writing} but we adore the new look and feel.
Front porch makeover – Lighting:
And that peek of haint blue underneath is oh so wonderful. It’s like an unexpected addition to the outside whenever you’re standing on our porch.
The fabulous light, of course, is from Kichler.
They’re our very favorite company when it comes to all things lights, and we have a little something else up our sleeves when it comes to ideas and projects. We can’t wait to share that one, soon, as well. It goes so well with this porch makeover.
Front porch makeover – Accents:
This is an old toy crate we pulled out of storage for the flowers we knew we wanted to add. I was a little torn about what to use, and knew we wanted height, when it occured to us that we already had something. We used it in the boys’ room of our last house, and we love it here on the front porch where it has a new purpose. Read all about how we built it, here!
Front porch makeover – Address Numbers:
Our house numbers are from the fabulous Dropcap Studio. We love the gorgeous look and classic feel the brass numbers bring to the front of our house.
We’ll be back this week to share how those were installed {think easy peasy rice and cheesy – but they deserve a detailed post of their own!}
I don’t know. Maybe it sounds silly, but our house sat empty for so long before we came around… slowly but surely you can tell it’s loved again.
At least that’s how we {and the neighbors who let us know this quite regularly} feel.
We love making memories and seeing all the happy spaces the kids are making the home their own.
Our favorite part is the little people who sit here… enjoying their books and games and a little Spring weather. Yes, they flocked to it as soon as mom and dad were done.
It’s definitely home.
We hope you enjoyed our little spring tour and front porch makeover. Even if we are drowning in landscaping jobs up to our eyeballs. Slowly but surely!
As always, let us know if you have any questions. We’d be glad to answer them for you!
Have an inspired day!
Your home is so sweet and you are doing a wonderful job on it!
What a gorgeous porch! Thank you for sharing and I love those columns and numbers! Such great personal touches.
I love the rockers! May I ask where you bought them?
Hey! They are from Grandinroad. Hope that helps!
Great post Ashley! The place looks great!
Awesome. I love them!
I loved your article and what a beautiful house you got! My highlight was the address numbers. They are so huge and unique that I might get them. I am looking to learn how to install them.
Hi! Thanks so much! The how to can be found here. I hope that helps!
