If you tuned in last week, then you probably know that we’re finally putting these kiddos’ rooms together! I was thrilled to share Emerson’s space {with a little recap on our backstory} and today we’re sharing our youngest’s room: a colorful teen boys bedroom!
When we first moved into this space, this room was their “sleeping room” because it was shared by all three while we renovated the rest of the house. They loved sharing for a while, and then it was shared by the youngest two, when the oldest moved into his own space.
They made a lot of memories in this space, and it’s come such a long way.
But we’ll never forget how it started out!
That eye-searing red took three {maybe four?} coats of paint and primer to cover. And when we took the wallpaper down from the back wall after we’d installed it for their shared room, some of that red came back from the dead to haunt me, peeking through the layers. Scary stuff.
With lighter floors, we wanted to add a bit of dimension to his wall, and adored adding this really fun blue color to his space. We love the combination of upcycled things we already had, vintage vibes and awesome one of a kind finds to pull it all together.
Malone is a gamer at heart, and when I was trying to come up with some art that really captured him, I was coming up short. I decided to pull together a series of old controllers in fun colors to capture something he’d love. Safe to say, he’s a happy client.
{These are available in the shop! More details with a closer look at those, below.}
I curated some one of a kind finds like this camera I’ve had forever, these giant marbles I loved finding at the local flea market as well as these old books. There’s just something about the fun color and character you can pull in with old one of a kind finds.
This one is still one of my favorite views. If you remember from their original room reveal, we took out both closets on each side of the two bedrooms, to open up more space in between. Previously, they were two very small closets. So we knocked out a wall and opened it up to give them more space. The boys are enjoying more room for all things clothing now that sis is in her own space!
It’s really amazing how much room is opened up by giving everyone their own space. The entire house feels it.
This little chest of drawers was a purchase once upon a time from an open box price, but a great sturdy piece at Wayfair. {Sources below.} We love the classic lines and awesome space it gives him.
The art is upcycled from our pool room reveal. You may remember now that we have two windows removed because of the primary suite addition, we moved the art and added a gallery wall instead. These fit perfectly in his “theme”, if you will.
The inspiration for his entire room, started with this high quality wool blanket I grabbed at the flea market. {No worries, it’s been washed multiple times.} And that’s what I built his bedding off of, with classic vibes and tones that will grow with him.
We still have his old desk and a vintage star chart which maps the stars. He loves topping off his desk with his favorite things, from magic 8 balls to old wooden robots and more.
This globe was just dying to be in his space, along with a vintage gas station number I also found years ago.
Guess where the books and camera also came from? I’m always a fan of old finds. He loves them, too.
These vintage letterpress letters are some that I used once upon a time in his nursery. We kept his gender a surprise, but knew that either way, the name would be Malone. It’s fun to re-incorporate them now, that he has his own space.
This is an old school addition: Jamin’s childhood cape {also played with by all the kids when they were little} made by his mom. It became instant art when we framed it, here. Such a great keepsake!
I just think he has the perfect little layout. This kiddo in some capacity or another, has always shared with someone. {With the exception of when he was a newborn.} So he’s just excited.
Sources: We covered most of them in this post, but some things changed… like his rug since I realized much to my dismay that it was blending too much with the floor. Here they are below!
• Paint: We’ll still be keeping the same wall + ceiling colors, {sw tidewater} but I’m going bold on one wall since accents never go out of style. I’ve fallen in love with this blue/green on my own closet walls, and fully plan to use it in his room as well.
• Bedding:
I spied this duvet at Target + fell in love. Paired with this quilt it really pairs wonderfully with that wool blanket! The sheets {Threshold – no longer available?} are thrown in for a little pattern play. You guys know I can’t resist a stripe. Pillows tie it all together with basics in the best of ways.
• Rug – This one is drool worthy, here. Perfect with all his colors. We kept it smaller because the floor is just so pretty.
• Side tables + lamps: Sconces were our original purchase, years ago from West Elm. + A touch of modern to hold books + collectibles.
• Chest + Desk + Chair: all reused from his old space – Chest {we scored this one on MAJOR open box discount years ago + it’s a wonderful piece}/ Desk / Chair
• Vintage Star chart – originally from here – so many great options!
• Bed – We found this one in simple lines, and love the way it looks.
• Light – original to the space.
• Pennant – I love this one + our cape art, here.
• Bulletin Board – We love this one here. It’s a great way to let him have full control over an area and hang whatever he wants!
• Art – available here!
I made a little vintage War Eagle pendant just for him… and he added art from our books, fun photos he loves, stickers and more!
Side note: these side tables took a lot of assembly, but they’re sturdy and hold a ton.
About this gamer art:
This is a part of our new collection while we slowly expand on our original paintings!
You can order prints in the shop!
We thought they came together in such a fun way! I’ve been busy creating quite a few new paintings lately and plan to keep consistently adding more as I can. Be sure to check out the entire shop, here.
We loved capturing this space, just for him.
So what are some of your favorite additions? We’d love to hear. It has truly come so far!
Have an inspired day!

Your son is so lucky to have such a tasteful and personalized room! It’s obvious how much thought and love went into each detail. The video game controller art was the first thing that caught my eye and is a beautiful touch!
