When this sweet family contacted us about helping them convert some spare garage space they had into livable space… we were all in. They were looking for a way to expand their entertaining area, while also making the space a flex space for all their needs as their family continues to grow. Expanding square footage is the fastest way to add value to your home, especially in tight markets like Nashville where real estate is rising… and no one knows where they’d even go. This space is a perfect example of that, and we’re thrilled to share this tour today: a converted garage living space!
I’m going to be honest, just like a lot of the projects we have coming up, this post is a doozy. A fun colorful space with plenty of satisfying before and afters… just like we like it! So buckle up, this not-so-little-tour is lots of fun!
It really came down to dividing the spaces into zones, and making the rooms work hard for them in a sensible manner.
So we went from a garage…
To creating valuable real estate for their home!
Versatile spaces with creative uses truly are some of our very favorite type of designs! It’s the perfect area for their family.
This is the snack bar where her teens can host movie nights, slumber parties and more. It has a small fridge, this adorable popcorn maker, and a microwave to boot, for treats.
The furniture chosen, includes a sleeper sofa, for overnight guests, along with plenty of seating options for kids + adults, alike. We loved pulling the look all together with lots of style!
Furniture Sources:
sofa / loft chair / rug / foosball coffee table / stripe pillow {similar} / plaid pillow / floor pillows
On the left side, which was once just a large garage area, is now a full bath, along with a kitchenette in the back. This includes the “adult” area, since they also have a pool, and it’s the perfect access to downstairs, without having to go up to their full kitchen. {Yes, repeat clients are the best, and if you ask us their home is amazing…}
This area was once used for storage, and their storm shelter. And a hangout spot for their cute cat. So we repurposed it into a barn door with a dart board to cover that opening, and it will be the future location of a mini arcade with pin ball machine to boot, for their teens.
We love how colorful and fun it all is now.
We think that this basement is a great example of what happens when you have to work around certain elements, like support poles and existing pipes. We worked them seamlessly into the space, so that they’re a part of the rooms without feeling intrusive. Intentional for the win.
We loved bringing in colorful art with a an awesome artist.
Similar table + lamp from here.
Floors / walls / paint colors:
The cabinets were designed by us in a collaboration with the client, and made by one of our favorite artisans. We selected some simple LVP with the client and brought in SW Egret White for the walls, along with Comfort Gray for the cabinets + pipes.
We love D.Lawless for all of our hardware sources!
Kids snack area shelving accessories:
wire baskets / round baskets / microwave / popcorn maker {similar} / fabulous towel hooks from here
Tile Details:
Of course the show stopper in this room is that fabulous Jeffrey Court Suburbs tile on the backsplash of both the snack and server bar. We adore the variety of this tile and love how it works in the space! It’s gloriously perfect.
Here’s an up close and personal take on that pretty tile. Be still my heart. Hazards of the job, but I now want this in my own home.
Why yes, I am officially jealous of their basement.
Entertainment Wall:
It’s still really fun to see the before and after of this area! The entertainment center is perfect for video games, movies and so much more.
Console + shelves -we loved combining pieces for a simple look to last for years to come.
We added vintage items, baskets for storage, and lots of fun personality to this fun area.
I mean who doesn’t love Bob Ross? –This game is really cute, by the way.
I’m working my way backwards from the main sitting room, because their second area is perfect for hosting, and looks oh so fabulous on this wall where all things automotives once sat. No worries, there’s still room in their garage.
I love their fabulous vintage-esque fridge for entertaining guests. It’s the perfect size for a basement.
Bar Shelving Sources:
Just a few sources for these fabulous shelves:
art – large + small / baskets / fridge basket / canisters / menu board / goblets – similar / white canisters
We loved bringing in beautiful shots of color in really fun ways.
Faucet details:
One of the crowning glories of the sink area, is this fabulous faucet from Delta.
The EMMELINE™ Single Handle Pull Down Bar/Prep Faucet With Touch2O Technology In Lumicoat Champagne Bronze is oh so handy!
What we love about it: You can turn on their faucet with a simple touch anywhere! This faucet is equipped with The Delta TempSense™ LED light which changes color to let you know which temp the water is set to. They’re also made with Touch-Clean® Spray Holes, which allow you to eliminate calcium and lime build-up with the touch of a finger. Their Delta® Lumicoat™ Finishes easily wipe clean without the need for cleaners or chemicals. We can all use a little simple and this faucet is trustworthy and dependable.
I can’t tell you how important it is to have a faucet that’s trustworthy and dependable. Signed, the lady who found a leak in her kitchen this winter and now wants to replace it with Delta.
It doesn’t hurt that it’s oh so pretty!
Here’s another view of their awesome sitting space. So much fun {if we do say so ourselves}.
Lighting Details:
Of course the room wouldn’t be the same without these amazing lights from Kichler!
Their under cabinet lighting, paired with {some of our favorites} their Ellerbeck™ Sconce give a ton of options for all those little details. From movie night to entertaining, the environment is oh so soothing and inviting. It’s all in the details when it comes to lighting.
Another fabulous view of that fun bar! The door to the right now leads to the rest of the garage.
Here’s a great view we need to show you, from the other direction. This before and after is oh so satisfying, too.
That under-the-stairs closet was knocked back to make room for more space, while also giving them a coat closet for storage. It just makes the entire room feel more open.
We love the view of this little door + staircase, with the details in this door color, too. Opening up the walls made for a roomier option, with a simple baluster from here, combined with trim work. We loved giving something so simple, a whole lot of style.
This little nook now holds keys, reminders + more. We couldn’t help but give it a little character:
floor basket / round basket {similar} / stripe basket / bulletin board
Because they’re fellow Auburn fans, we couldn’t help but sprinkle the staircase with some fun art.
But this view might just be one of my favorites. One of the owners of the house is a fitness instructor. She wanted a space just for her so she could work from home and with clients. This space is just perfect.
The pipes, that are a potential eyesore, ended up being one of our favorite elements. Why not make the essentials fun?
This Tollis light from Kichler brought in so much character in a simple way, we love what it did for the space.
Just a few more sources: Mirrors + Baskets {similar}
Isn’t this space so fun?
And a little peek of the before, for the full bath that now exists in their space. We now have a pocket door to preserve space, and the elements are oh so pretty here!
Tile Details:
The pairing of this beautiful Jeffrey Court tile is a real show stopper.
We combined their Cloudy Daze Mosaic for an awesome floor tile, with their beautiful Gris Rustico in the shower.
The photos just don’t do it justice!
Lighting Details:
Of course, we brought in Kichler Lighting for the win! This beautiful Azores sconce brought in so much character to the tiny space.
Faucet Details:
The amazing elements of Delta Faucets brought in some trustworthy and stylish items to the bathroom.
For the sink: We brought in The CASSIDY™ Two Handle Widespread Bathroom Faucet-Less Handles In Champagne Bronze. Their faucets feature timeless lines. Delta® WaterSense labeled faucets, showers and toilets use at least 20% less water than the industry standard. Did you know that they come with a lifetime warranty? There’s a reason industry pros prefer Delta.
For the shower: We tied the two together, by matching with the CASSIDY™ TempAssure® 17T Series Shower Trim In Champagne Bronze. What we love about it: Their water is literally sculpted out in a unique pattern, which ultimately provides more coverage with less water. Their faucets are covered in a durable, long-lasting finish that will not to corrode, or discolor.
And then it was the little details with their fabulous {matching} DORVAL™ Universal Tank Lever In Champagne Bronze + this awesome CASSIDY™ Tissue Holder In Champagne Bronze.

And so handy to have this bath access right off their pool area!
But isn’t the tile in here delicious? We love the way all these accents came together!
Similar towel hooks, here.

Love it! Can you please tell me the paint color for the bathroom?
Thanks
ashley @ the handmade home says
Yes! Sorry I did not differentiate. It is the same as the cabinets – SW Comfort Gray. Hope that helps!
