diy memory board

Remember last week when we shared one of the fun trends for 2021 with FrogTapeĀ®? We were thrilled to build a fun picnic table for Eat Well, and you can find that tutorial, and color scheme, in the link above. Another trend we’re excited to share is Play Hard.

I don’t know about you, but we’re ready to ring in 2021, and when they asked us to create a fun project depicting one of their design trends for a little inspiration, we were thrilled to do just that.

This design trend is ā€œPlay Hardā€.

When we dove into all things apocalypse with our cabana design, it was an amazing escape for the kids. While we plan to do more of an organizational project in the future for all things pool toys and supplies, we thought we’d let the kiddos have a little fun with it, first. Our middle, in particular, wanted a project to display all her favorite photos and things.

And since she shares a space with her little brother for now, we thought why not let her decorate this space just as she wants?

From their site, Play Hard is described as this:

This trend consists of bright and cheerful hues, playful accessories and bright textiles. Vivid greens, pinks and blues, inspired by the outdoors, fruity drinks and blue skies, evoke emotions of joy and release happy endorphins. These elements create a sense of fun and a design that doesn’t take itself too seriously, whether you’re in the playroom, in the backyard or on the patio.

We feel like our back yard patio and hideaway and cabana {all the fun yard things!} kind of embody this project.

And since our middle was looking for something fun to do while locked down on quarantine from school, this was the perfect distraction.

Here’s what you’ll need:

•  FrogTapeĀ® in various widths
• standard cork boards
• Paint colors in bright and cheerful hues
• brushes + drop cloth
• thumbtacks – more on that below.

We created this simple pattern by simply alternating various widths of FrogTapeĀ® down our cork boards.

Laying them all at once helps keep the lines even, and establishes an easy pattern.

• Paint the edges :

If you wish to add color to your cork board frame, now is the time with everything protected. It was nice to mix it up with cheerful hues, and the kids loved the fun colors for their little space. It probably helps to do a few coats, depending on what your particular cork board border is made of. Sometimes, the paint wants to bead up.

• Pull the first pieces of tape

Next, pull the tape for an every-other line kind of pattern, so you know where to paint.

• Paint :

In whichever color you like to add lines and patterns to your cork board.

It helps to brush away from the tape, for a nice, rough texture.

• Pull the tape :

And watch the magic happen, where the fun pattern is revealed. So satisfying!

Clearly, our favorite part.

The kids gathered up some of their favorite things: photos, art, tacks, and more. We made some easy handmade tacks by combining some resin pieces with thumbtacks for fun. They made these awesome glittery, chunky pieces.

We also added:

• These little thumbtacks for colorful selections
• And these clips – perfect for photo displays – or anything you won’t want holes in.

• Tada! It’s ready to hang

Gather your favorite polaroid photos, family shots, meaningful art, and playful reminders. Your kids will love this project, and you will too.

An ongoing art display for the entire year.

The kids love this little closet of theirs, to display their favorite things. It was definitely a nice creative project to cure their boredom when some of them were home quarantined from school. We were thrilled they’re off screens, too.

We hope this inspires you to create something fun with FrogTapeĀ® this upcoming year!

Have an inspired day!
