Hello all you fabulous people! I’m out of pocket for my sister’s wedding, and I’m blessed to have some of my favorite bloggers graciously filling in for me this week-to provide you with some amazing, inspiring eye candy! Just a side note: these are their own fabulous homes, and all credit goes to them-so please pin responsibly. Thank you so much!
If you’re not familiar with the fabuloso Destiny from A Place for Us, you’re going to love her. We connected briefly via Instagram + Twitter, and I soon learned that Destiny is basically living a mirror reflection of my life, in another town. I knew I loved her when I she did this on the Nate show. Yes, she made up a song. It took some mad skills. {Click on the first video} You’ll fall in love with her great blog, adorable family and awesome projects. So without further ado…

Hello friends! My name is Destiny from A Place for Us and I’m so happy to be here today doing a little blog crashing for Ashley as she enjoys sometime with her sister! Don’t you just love that girl!? You guys are so lucky to have such a spirited blog hostess!! I’m so in love with EVERY thing she does and I’m sure you are too. I mean her fabric source and top font posts changed my life forever and made my cheeks hurt from all the laughing.
I’m sure you didn’t know this but Ashley and I are actually sisters! Twins! Can you guess which one’s me?!
OK, ok not really, but you get the point. We should be cause we have so much in common it’s not even funny! We’re basically living the same life just on different coasts!
My kin and I are just your typical suburban family. A party of five who’s always up for some fun! Most of the time our house looks like a toy store trying it’s best to be a model home:0) But it cleans up quite nicely!
Today she asked me if I could share my house with you guys and I couldn’t be more happy to! We are still working our way around our casa so I will show you a few different spaces that we are proud of!
Living Room/Dining Room Before: It was dark and had no life what so ever. Sort of generic. So we pulled out the carpet, installed hardwood floors, rolled on some graybiege paint and little by little added pieces of us.
Our Living Room/Dining Room now…
When you first walk into our home your greeted by a formal living and dining room space. I’m a super traditional gal and even though my hubby rather have a big ole ice hockey/pingball/pool table in this space I wanted it to be a comfortable place to host more guests and have family dinners. A lot of times people assume that formal spaces are only for special occasions but for us that’s really not the case. Of course we have our Thanksgiving day feasts and shindigs in here but on a weekly basis you can find my hubby and I lounging away and hiding from the kids:0) The wallpaper, sofa, colors and just the overall feeling of this room makes me SO happy! Yeah, it takes some work and some saving up, but it’s worth it to be surround by a space that’s a reflection of your life!
Kitchen and Family Room….
Our west coast home has a very open floor plan, so every room sort of blends in with the next. When you walk around the corner you will see our family room and kitchen. This is were we spend a lot of our time. Our kitchen is going through major facelift this year. I decided in the beginning of January to paint the cabinets and it has been one of the LONGEST most drawn out projects ever! I’m almost positive that for a normal human being, painting cabinets would only take a couple of weeks. But combine a super type B brain, a crazy bunch of tods and a super “hug me right now” husband you got yourself a 4 month paint job.
It’s still a work in progress and I’ve been sharing with my readers the entire time….
Looking across our breakfast nook your see our family room. This is were we kick it:0) Most of our messes, spills, family movie nights, parties and thangs happen in here. Which is why this year I will be looking for darker carpet and a family friendly sofa…ohhh Ashley, can you help a girl out?? The best thing about this room is that it get tons of sunlight! Which makes the space so much brighter and cheerful!
Hallway
This is probably on of the most famous spaces in our home…the hallway. Adorned with these charming signs. Because yes, there are some days I forget which room is which. I need all the help I can get. This has become one of my favorite projects because it was SO easy to do and I took an idea that you and I see all the time and found away for it to work in my home. I think that’s one of my favorite things about design, thinking inside the box will give you a pretty, functional space. But thinking outside the box allows for charm and character. Follow the rules and break them when you can!!!
Powder Room
Straight down that hallway is lovely striped powder room! I was super excited to try out stripes in our home. So instead of trying it out on one of the main spaces I decide that this small room would be perfect for a stripe experience, and it was! I love the way it turned out. The stripes are super bold and fun to see looking down the hall.
Well that’s about it! Thank you so much Ashley and all you Handmade Home readers! It was great to meet you! Come visit me anytime over at A Place for Us! This year I hope to finish up my kitchen and start on those three rooms down the hallway! Considering the time spent on my kitchen, it should be interesting! BYE!

Hey Destiny. You are so awesome! I am so glad you’re here! I talked to you on your blog a couple months ago after your first airing on Nate — remember I told you that Nate was being cancelled. I’m still so bummed… BUT I heard this morning on the news that NATE has teamed up with Target and is going to have a whole new line of home products there soon! You probably knew this a long time ago cuz he probably called you and told you! Ha ha! Keep up the gorgeous work and see you at Target! xo jen from Alexandria, VA xo
