I wasn’t quite sure what to call this post… ideas to hide an electrical box? Inspiration for covering an electrical box? So how to cover an electrical box it was. We are so very close to having the polishing touches all finished up on our primary suite, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Here’s a sneak peek of the hallway off the left of the kitchen, that leads into the area. And another little peek of our laundry room!
Once upon a time, it started like this.
And now, it looks like this. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be putting on those final touches. But gosh we’ve come a long way.
Here’s a sneak peek of the butler’s hallway {and the door to our bedroom, here}.
When we were putting all the ideas together with our awesome architect for this plan, the only place for the electrical box to go was here. It was our only option. Boooo hissssss. I mean, better than the bedroom, or taking up space in our closet… but why does my laundry room have to suffer?
Washing clothes in pretty spaces, is important. And also, Eye. Sore.
People are always wondering what on earth to do with these unsightly boxes, so to quote our Portlandia friends, “put a bird on it“. Except make it art.
This is a little bit of a sneak peek, and I know I’m biased, but it just may be the cutest little hardworking-est laundry room you ever did see. So when I spied these borderline vintage offensive posters with all things laundry, I knew I just HAD to have them. {Because only women do laundry, amirite?}
Disclaimer: Not in our house. EVERYONE does the laundry. Otherwise, I would die drowning in clothes.
I scored these frames from Target because easy.
And combined them with posters from this store. Be sure that you check out everything they have to offer… I just adore these colorful, high quality prints! {#notsponsored #welovesupportingsmallbusinesses}
Aren’t they the best?
But hold up, because this one’s important. When covering an electrical box, here are just a few safety tips our lawyers would like you to know since you’re drilling near ALL your electrical wires…
- No nails. They’re sharp and hard to control.
- Use plastic wall anchors with metal screws. The plastic offers some protection against a chance of arcing.
- Drill your hole and never hammer. Lightly drill a hole without using force. Let the drill do the work. As soon as it pushes through the drywall, stop. Insert the plastic anchor and push it through manually.
Here’s that sneak peek into our bedroom area, that we were able to share a few weeks ago! This wallpaper / flooring combo is my very favorite. Oh. If you’re wondering what those weird lines are… it’s the entrance into the crawlspace. We basically store all our bodies… I mean Christmas decor down there. It’a almost big enough to stand up in and Jamin planned it that way intentionally. Though the whole family initially laughed at him, we’re glad he did.
So here we are! Maybe a silly post, but a great solution for all things eye sores that you actually sometimes have to be able to get to on an unpredictable whim.
We can’t wait to finish all this up and show you soon! But for now, it’s functioning and we love a good space for all things laundry. Especially after living with our {previously} tiny corner that is soon to become a closet, for so long.
Have you covered your electrical box with anything? We’d love to hear!
Have an inspired day!
