When we think about our laundry rooms, we often think of ways to make a space where we work, more attractive.
I know that making our laundry space “prettier” definitely motivated both of us to tackle the laundry quickly, because we knew we could keep it neater in the process if it looked better.
And even if we infused a bit of humor, we can make it fun. Every home should have a little fun.
But what have we done to make it safer?
Because there are hidden elements that we don’t often think about. And accidents happen in an instant.
Liquid laundry packets are highly concentrated and should always be stored up high in a safe location, and away from children. Accidents can happen in a split second, and lives can change in the blink of an eye. It’s something of a double edged sword when it happens in the place where our homes are supposed to be a haven for our children. So we’re teaming up today with the American Cleaning Institute who is talking to parents about the importance of laundry safety and keeping the home a safe place, a topic we’re truly passionate about.
Here’s a few things we want you to know: {Please refresh your screen if the video isn’t loading}
Accidents involving young children and liquid laundry packets are continuing to occur. The American Cleaning Institute recently conducted a consumer survey and found that 61% of parents are storing detergent packets in-sight and in-reach of young children.
Since it’s National Safety Month, here are a few things you can do now to take action and ensure you’re properly storing these products:
• Put those packets up and out of the way. It’s best that they’re kept up high, just like any other cleaning product, and out of reach so that little kiddos aren’t even tempted. Locking them up and out of the way when little ones start exploring is really the best way to ensure they don’t get their hands on them.
• Make them impossible to access by your children. Kids can be unpredictable. Our youngest child pushed the chair across the kitchen floor, climbed up the chair, and then onto the counter to open the cabinet. Why? To get into the gummy vitamins when he was three. Somehow, he broke through the safety cap, and managed all this when my back was turned for a second. I walked in on him going to town on what he thought tasted good. He couldn’t tell me how many he’d had and I wasn’t waiting around to find out. I’d consider myself fairly diligent when it came to this kind of stuff since this was my third time around {more on another not-so-fun filled safety event we had with our oldest, later}. But I took too much for granted, and it landed us in the emergency room. He was fine, but things happen. So take each child into consideration as well. Life can be crazy unpredictable and we’re playing with fire when we think we have it all under wraps. It’s just a good reminder to stay diligent in your home.
