It’s that time of year again! Time to bring the scent of Spring into your home.
The blooms are budding, the birds are singing… and it’s time to start cleaning. A little more than usual. (And we’ve got a great freebie for you, detailed below.)
I’m a perpetual nester/clean-a-holic, and there’s just nothing that makes me feel better than a clean house. {Cue super dork emoji.}
But I’m also horrible at this little thing called procrastination. It’s like this weird combo between loving a clean house and not actually wanting to do it. Because who does? So you know what else makes me happy? Two things: Supplies that actually make it more enjoyable, and actually doling out some of the responsibilities to the other {and by other, I mean smaller} residents of our home. There’s something magical about having elementary school aged kids these days: I can get one to load the dishwasher while the youngest dusts, and the oldest picks up all. the. toys. That’s just for starters. But our cleaning supplies mean that the kids willingly participate in the actual cleaning part.
Of course I’m never truly on top of it, but I do love tricking myself with say… a few well placed candles and some of that yummy Mrs. Meyers spray. Or assigning someone else to the bathroom for once. Aromatherapy goes a long way with my hound dog nose, y’all. I’ve talked a little about all things home maintenance here on our site before… and it evolves and changes as our family grows. These days, it’s all about the little things that make life more enjoyable. That take the ho-hum out of the every day of it all.
Things have definitely changed for us since we’re currently, all five of us, residing in a smaller home while we wait for our basement redo. Yep. Still. Cue two large, super hyper over-the-top dogs, and it’s enough to drive anyone mad. Cue the whole septic tank maintenance thing… and it will drive you slightly mad/borderline paranoid.
No seriously. I have this real fear of backed up/overflowing toilets, so much so that I feel like I’m jinxing myself by writing about it here. If you remember, I even asked you guys for sage advice and all things septic ownership. Not only is it a healthier choice to use natural cleaning products… it’s safer with all things septic. I’m all about being totally preventative and cautious by avoiding things that can affect it over time. We’ve been a fan of some of these products for years. Once upon a time, they kind of felt like a luxury. Now that we have a septic system, they’re kind of a necessity.
So when we heard about Grove Collaborative, I knew it was right up our alley.
Grove Collaborative is a subscription service. I was hesitant about subscription services, and then I joined one. In this day and age, we adore getting things in the mail because a. it’s oh so easy and b. happy packages are everything. They’re basically the adult version of Santa. But delivered to your door. And not in an over the top way, but in a you-might-actually-clean-the-kitchen-sink-now, way. It allows you to quickly pick your fave supplies, and they’re shipped straight to you. A little visual representation from their site:
Basically, it’s super easy to stay stocked on the products that matter to you… a convenient way to shop without the high price tag.
Our favorite, other than opening the box every time to receive our new goodies… is how carefully everything is packed. Another bonus. You can tell they take great care in what they do. They carefully wrap and tape everything so it’s not damaged in the shipping process. Because what good is an empty bottle of soap and a broken container? Womp womp.
They had me at Mrs. Meyers. That was what hooked me. So we signed up.
And we were kind of astounded at how many other amazing things we could actually find on their site.
Here’s all the deats… again, because they say it on their site way better than we can, and I always prefer someone to break it down for me so I know what I’m signing up for:
So what have we ordered each time, that we’ll keep using? So far, here’s a few of our faves:
Mrs. Meyers – Mrs. Meyers everything. From the hand soap, to the dish soap, to the cleaning spray and the toilet cleaner. I’m a total graphic design nerd so when she first released her products years ago, I was all over it. But then I actually used them… and she had me at the scent. And again, septic so now we’re kind of married. Our very favorite is the classic lavender but we adore trying something new, any time. Bonus: It’s nice to leave them out on the counter and not feel as though my corneas are singed by giant biohazard signs in neon yellow because death and fumes and scary.
Toms Toothpaste – It’s chemical free, natural flavors + kind of a game changer. I was raised a traditional {rhymes with rest} gal, but really like the change. Bonus: I have clean teeth and fresh breath and I won’t get tiny beads stuck in between my teeth.
Preserve Toothbrushes – I stole the first one to try it out. I called dibs. Jk, It’s because the battery died in my old toothbrush and there’s no coming back from that. Preserve toothbrushes are made from recycled yogurt cups. I had no idea a toothbrush could be so comfortable. I’m accustomed to stiff bristles until they’re broken in, and I love them. I’m switching everyone over in our family as soon as possible. Bonus: I’m not butchering my gums anymore like I was with the big brand names, and I totally thought that was normal.
Babble Waterbottles + Filters – They filter as you go, so simply fill up and drink. They’re perfect for anything on the go, and come in fun colors for the kiddos. Bonus: call me a nerd I love taking them to my Barre classes. #abs #notreally #maybeoneday #whyamistillgoing
Veggie Brush – I will never eat another baked potato/carrot/fill-in-the-healthy-thing-here without them. No, a little dirt never hurt anyone, but it still makes me feel better to get it clean before I put it on our plates. Bonus: duh, no brown stuff on my veggies, or maybe even the flu virus from being manhandled at the grocery store. Yes, I did just write that. Yes, I am OCD.
Walnut sponges and scouring pads – Sometimes sponges can weird me out, and dishcloths really freak me out if I use them for too long. Yes, I am high strung and have issues. But I love using these as a substitute. We designate some for dishes, and some for practical cleaning areas like countertops and tables. Throw them in the dishwasher when they start to get icky, and when you need more… hit refill. I can never have enough of these on hand. Bonus: Kinda cute when you leave them out because not neon colors.
They have so much more, that we haven’t even scratched the surface. But these are just a few of the handy every-day use/keeping it real kind of items that take things up a notch. You know, in case you’re wondering what on earth you should try first. There’s something about conquering the ho-hum every day stuff with fun products and scents and a variety of ways to use them that help us actually enjoy the task at hand. Cue me, spraying Mrs. Meyers on my face in slow mo in some weird video. No, don’t do that. But it’s the little things, and while it may sound silly… can kind of change your outlook on all things cleaning.
And in case you were wondering, we were thrilled to see so many of the every day things we use that are actually available at comparable or even lower prices. Bonus: It saves me a trip to fill-in-the-blank-store-here… which is usually a dangerous thing anyway. {Hello, dollar spot that quickly turns into twenty when you have children in tow. No judging.}

Have y’all tried Caldrea from Grove yet? The Pear Blossom Agave and Sea Salt Neroli smell amazing, but just for the labels alone these soaps need to be beside every sink in your home. It screams you.
