It was an exciting week for us last week in the money pit…
Because these walls are coming down.
And… they’re gone. It’s so funny to us how the walls can shrink and grow during the demo or framing or building process.
Whichever phase you’re in, makes a huge difference.
The insulation is currently being pulled out, framing is happening for the upstairs, and plumbers are coming in to begin the process of rebuilding, in the bathrooms upstairs.
We also met with our cabinet company to discuss layout, and we’re starting to look at sketch ups of the space. It’s funny how things evolve from your original plans as you go. Budget is a big part of that. We’re learning how everything in life… comes down to money. I think we were already supposed to know that… it’s just that this has been a very clear slap in the face of an illustration for us.
Wheeeeee!
I would be so adorably amazing at being millionaire. I’m not sure why I haven’t been given my chance yet. ;}
The wiring has also been removed by electricians, and the pool was even checked for safety before the kids got in with the light on the other night. Which eased this mama’s mind.
{PS. I read an article recently that basically says I’m a ninja for being totally anxious and borderline paranoid, and less likely to die in a freak accident… so we’ll go with that.}
Beams will be coming down from these ceilings as soon as it’s approved by the engineer… which is today. It makes us leery of course… but we’ve already received a letter of pre-approval so now that this current roller coaster has slowed to a screeching halt, we’re about to ride another one, I’m sure.
Construction would be easy peasy without all the variables of endless possibilities and people and paperwork involved. Which is basically real life. Someone should make a TV show about that. Oh wait. No one would watch it. Wish us luck.
Behind that ceiling, the roofline comes to a pretty little peak on the inside. We’re thrilled to open this up and check it all out.
We’ve found more really fun gems underneath the floors, like this linoleum in the entryway. Similar to what I’m choosing for our kitchen as far as tile… in completely different colors of course.
What goes around comes around…
We also made sure the boys closets were knocked through to have a connecting doorway, which actually really opens up their shelving possibilities since before, the closets were very narrow. At first, it will be our studio, but eventually, Malone’s room. {Read more about our upstairs plans, here}
We are pleased that most usable materials are being re-purposed in different ways for the people who are interested, as well as donated to places that take such materials. It’s always good to repurpose while we’re at it.
Stay tuned to see what we’re doing with all those doors.
But we’re glad a lot of this is coming out, with the dark insulation and a lot of mold or water damage around almost every plumbing fixture… It was definitely time for a healthy redo.
One day at a time. Deep breaths.
Meanwhile, we’ve had a little bit of this action in the pool… though the pump is trying to quit on us, it may be touch and go through the rest of the season with a little trouble shooting. It’s a bit of a beast, though we do have the new liner, and we’ve come a long way… there’s a lot to learn to whip it into shape for the long haul.
But this makes it all worth it…
Nighttime swimming on those perfect summer nights… and I’m still trying to fine tune our hanging lights on the porch.
It’s funny how getting into a new home will have us playing with ideas for hours on end until we get just the right feel for it all. And by us, I mean Jamin waiting patiently while I ask him to pivot his ladder to the left and hold his right leg and arm at the perfect angle to show me the latest hanging. He’s so patient. And it’s a whole new project to tackle.
Thanks for stopping by today… and stay tuned for some sneak peeks on instagram in the meantime!
Have an inspired day!

I feel you on the millionaire part. Some friends of ours had an Aunt Mary that left them all sorts of money – I keep telling my husband we need to find an Aunt Mary for ourselves. 🙂

You guys are coming along nicely! I would be an amazing millionaire too. Still waiting on my obscure non existent relative to die and leave me a fortune!

My parents had that same linoleum in their kitchen for years and years but in 70’s (or 60’s?) green.
Good luck…you guys are doing fabulous with all of the hiccups! ?

Awe thanks, Rach! So funny with those floor choices! We felt like a little bit of history was being pulled up every time we discovered a new layer ;}
