When a sweet gal named Jen wrote in for master bedroom ideas, we were thrilled to dig into some inspiration.
Many times, we save the bedroom for last, and it’s something that can mean so much in a sanctuary or escape at the end of a long day. As Jen and her husband are both military, they relocate frequently. So we were hoping to present them with ideas for budget savvy solutions for listing their house in the near future, as well as later in their new abode.
The master bedroom is easily the most under-done space in the home… it’s so important to do that for ourselves. We read and studied each section of the space carefully, and tried to address each challenge for a high-functioning space.
So without further ado, a few master bedroom ideas!
4. Paint –
We love the color they chose in a nice, soft grey – so if they relocate, do it again, if they’re happy with it!
1. Headboard –
They mentioned not wanting to purchase a headboard just yet, but we couldn’t help but include one. We adore this one with the great neutral gray and natural wood frame for later.
2. Bedding –
We adore the classic lines in a super soft quilt with classic ticking stripes. We would add two Euro shams, + then two more pillows like this to bring in a great organic shape. We love it topped off with a little bolster pillow full of unexpected character and color. We even included a quick little illustration to show how we would arrange the pillows against the headboard below – We hope that helps illustrate the final arrangement! Pillows can be tricky, and this cozy little combo should give them some great character for their space.
5. Throw –
For a hint of color at the foot of the bed, we love this throw to tie it all together, and keep it light and fun.
3. + 11. The futon –
Jen mentioned that they wanted to keep their current futon. So we found some covers which would definitely keep things light and casual and help give it a fresh look. Along with a nice coat of paint to update it a bit in this nice dark grey to help soften the edges and blending with the space. We love all this paired with the pillows for more of a collected mix. They mentioned art to go over the futon, and we would love to see a collection of frames in a hanging pattern like this.
6. Dresser + 13. Recliners –
Dresser
For now: We’d love to see that given a fresh makeover with some paint and pulls
For later: We love this look for a fresh feel in their space. We always save our own spaces for last as parents… and this dresser would be perfect for their look in the room.
For always: ;} we’d love to see a mirror like this over it to help make the space seem larger and add a timeless touch to the walls.
Recliners
For now: freshen them up with these fun pillows
For later: These chairs + Pouf are amazing for a real corner of their own + keep the pillows to go with. We’ve sat in them ourselves {we recommend visiting a La-z-boy store as this is what we chose for our recent Ronald McDonald House Install} and they are gloriously comfortable. So many options for colors! If you want to keep chairs in the space, this would be the route to go!
7. Rug
For now: We definitely think the space can be simplified with the rugs in the room, to help make it seem larger. For the sake of selling, we would remove everything rug-wise but the one currently under their bed. We tried to choose things that would go with their original rug, and just think they should leave that one, and pull it out 1/3 of the way from the bed to add a little more unification to the space.
For later: We would love to see this rug for some major color and personality… but always think this is something you add last in the room once all the final elements are in place.
8. Closet + Runner
We chose this runner for their closet area to soften it up a bit if they wish.
9. Small dresser
For now + later: We love the small dresser in between the bathroom + closet area. We say leave it as is {not all things are meant to be painted} and give it some fresh hardware.
Curtains
They mentioned that they liked the existing curtains. We say keep them if they are happy with them! We threw in a linen option because old habits die hard, and this would help soften the space.
10. Nightstands
We rounded up these just for an example of something for more storage down the line. We love the lamps they have now.
12. Chandelier
We love this one, and it would be relatively easy to find something similar at a flea market as well, so just an idea to keep an eye out for in the future.
14. Art
Horseshoes: They had some sentimental horseshoes from a trip with their family. We’d would love to see them eventually grouped like this in their own space as a sweet little family reminder. Original photo here
