First up: have you entered our WUSLU giveaway? Check it, here.
Now on to more good stuff: I loved reading all your entries from last month for the Room Redo Wannaplay entries. If I had picked one based on my opinion, that would have been impossible. Some of your emails made me laugh with your great sense of humor…some of you guys have great taste, and I was kind of intimidated that you wanted me to help, because I love what you have already! So, I opened up that folder, closed my eyes, and pointed. Believe it or not, that’s how I chose.
So, drum roll please…congratulations, to Jennifer! If you aren’t June’s winner, just know that you may still be chosen next month! {see below for entry details}
Jennifer sent me her bedroom. She wrote:
Ok Ms Ashley; our master bedroom has not been touched since we moved in; how do you like those avocado panels on the walls? And the harvest gold curtains? Actually, they are a bit retro by now!! If the quality of these pictures are terrible to work with, let me know; a few weeks ago I finished cleaning my room in the evening and thought I’d take some “before” pictures, but of course the daylight was almost gone…and when I opened the curtains I wasn’t getting a good photo.
I love color, and it’s splashed throughout my house, so I’d actually like some good white and cream going on in the bedroom for a nice relaxing atmosphere. Pops of subtle color here and there…and what could be done about the awkward windows? Maybe nothing, but I’m up for suggestions! Thanks for the “consideration”; it’d be fun to see what you think! 🙂
Jennifer requested white, with shots of color. I was inspired by this photo on the left in terms of color, and the one on the right in terms of fluffy white goodness and texture for the bed.
Here’s what I cooked up:
First things first, I think we all know what needs to happen to those avocado walls…even if they are awesomely retro. I’d love to see those curtains, and those walls outa there, and I’m going to default to my favorite white for this one: Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace. If you haven’t seen this wonderful color in action, check out our kitchen and laundry room. I think that Jennifer will be amazed and how GIGANTICAL {yes, I did just make that up} her room will seem when it’s all said and done.
1. I think they should turn that bed sideways, so that the headboard is on the blank wall, and the bed faces the windows. Not shoved right up to the wall, as seen below, {I know there’s two of you} but at least turned, so that the bed now has it’s own little alcove, as if surrounded by windows. Like a makeshift window seat, but for your bed.
I’d love to see their headboard in the form of an old door, as seen here. Painted in a fresh shot of peacock, this could be the springboard for the rest of the space’s color scheme.
paired with these awesome drool worthy garden stools to use as side tables, these would make incredible accents and “nightstands.”
topped with symmetrical lamps like these, (found via Tjmaxx) would bring in the perfect earth tone, interesting texture, and symmetry to their bed.
topping it off like a crown jewel to the bed, these unique wings would make quite the show stopper. {FYI: if you live anywhere near Nashville, I have these exact wings. I found them for 30 at their monthly large flea market. This was something he carried in bulk. And I love them…still searching for the perfect place to put them…}
2. + 5. I’d love to see the some furniture in your space refinished like these, to add someversatile interest.
Those pieces you have look pretty fantastic, so I’m not sure if painting is an option…you could always trade them out and switch them around in your home for something else…the possibilities are quite endless.
But I love this dark grey color, and I think it would be gorgeous against the white, especially with a pop of yellow in that lamp. The dresser would be pretty amazing too, with a stained top and light grey finish below.
I’d really love to see that mirror in her room hit with an additional coat of peacock blue, to carry that color well into the other side.
3. For the bedding, I adore this quilt from West Elm, as well as the matching pillows. I’d probably put it on top of a simple white duvet for a little more fluff. I’d love to see the windows done in simple curtains with this lovely linen material, for another nice earth tone for the room. I’d repeat that fabric on the bed with a nice throw at the foot, and asimple lumbar pillow.
4. I adore this pendant light, but think it would be fairly simple to hack with a little help from your local craft store and home depot. It’s those little mirrored disks circa 1985 that everyone once put on their shirts surrounded by puff glue. You know you had one. It adds a hint of glam without being too over the top, and keeps the room versatile and fun.
6. Love this rug. Placed on the side of the bed that you see when you walk into the room, it would add a nice, soft, textured and natural finish.
7. This art would be super simple to make, and would be perfect for their space.
So there you have it! That pretty much wraps up our entire first Room Redo Wannaplay inspiration board. I hope you enjoy it Jennifer! Wannaplay? shoot an email to [email protected] titled “room redo wannaplay” and you’ll be entered. You never know if you’ll win! ;}

Here’s some more eye candy: This could really be two posts in one, but when I started doing Jennifer’s room, I realized I’d seen her blog before, as she leaves comments here quite regularly. Snooping around on her site, I found THIS incredible porch redo.
Here’s the before:
I was already swooning over the potential.
Here’s what she’s done with it:
I KNOW, RIGHT?!!!!!
Oh my lanta. Can I come visit you?
and sit on your porch with your awesome pillows?
and eat bonbons and complain about our lives as mothers while we read twilight?
okay. maybe not twilight. But I do have a new blog crush.
What a serendipitous funsy two in one kinda day. Read more about it here!
