I wanted to start off today thanking you all for your kind comments/emails on our living room post. Sometimes, it can be a bit intimidating, when no one else has seen it, and then I’m all, ta-please-say-sweet-lemonade-da for people to look at. This room has been a real process, and it was fun to hear from all of you. 😉 You all never cease to amaze us with your kind comments!
As I mentioned yesterday, this space was a challenge for us in many different ways. And I can’t wait to cover a few tutorials for some of our art pieces. But today, I wanted to touch on the slipcover. I had a vague idea for what I wanted, so I scoured the internet until I found a shape I loved. It was too bad the price didn’t really fit my pocketbook at well over 1500 moolahs. {And I’m pretty sure that was just for the slipcover?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!} Most of the big named stores quickly orbit you well into the 3500 dollar range. {ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP#&@*&#*&^$*#&^$!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!}
Even if I saved, I just couldn’t rationalize dropping the big bucks on such nonsensicalness.
But where would I find one with rolled arms? Enter craigslist.
Enter the big dramatic, sometimes gut-wrenching journey in which I waited for what I wanted. I searched and scoured until I found just the right shape. And then sent the fabo hubs into the wilderness three hours away to fetch it for me. {Yeah. Craigslist is a bit of a dud in our neck of the woods.} Short story long, it was worth every moment of hard work. And it wasn’t really the wilderness, but it enriches the story with over the top agonizing details when you pretend like it was. He also hauled it back on a horse and buggy on a five day trek. But that’s beside the point…
But as established previously on said blog, I was a bit crammed for time, and we basically completed three rooms this summer. {Finished them all up these last few weeks.} Why? I’ll explain it all later, I promise. (No, we’re not completely insane.) How did we do it? By enlisting the help of awesome friends like Tiffany.
If you’re just now tuning in, Tiffany is responsible for Duncan, the former Masterpiece theater twins, and now this little beaut. I seriously can’t thank her enough for helping me with such a huge overhaul that was this handmade space. She’s touching a little on the process today, and you can catch more of it over on her blog. This was her first attempt at a slipcover, and I must say, it was an ah.ma.zing. job. I’m thrilled with it! But you wanna know the best part about this sofa? It’s just as comfy as it looks. Ahhhhh napage.
She was all, working hard and stuff, while I was totally obnoxious and snapped her photo, then went back to painting multiple projects in my studio kitchen. I’m pretty sure she put up with a lot that day and I am forever appreciative.
Tiffany used lots of online resources, and cleverly combined it with her educated upholstery know-how. This sweet lady is a great source for any questions you may have, if you plan on tackling one yourself. Also, if you do it, I have a new slipcover addiction, so I’d love to see those photos!
Have a happy Thursday everyone!

Did you put any zippers in the slipcover? I was thinking that may keep it in place.

I think I could stare all day at your beautifully slipcovered couch! I actually almost bought that Pottery Barn couch myself because my sister-in-law works for their corporate office in Cali, but, alas, it was still an arm and a leg after her amazing discount.
For the record, your blog is the one of the ONLY blogs I’m always wanting to comment–perhaps it’s because I’m also a youth pastor’s wife, or maybe because my daughter was born a little up the road in B-ham, but truly, I think it’s because you’re a gem in the blogging world. Keep it up, Ashley!

I think it turned out great and it does look very comfortable. I want to slip cover our couch but I am scared. But, maybe I’ll reconsider. Thank you for the information in your post.
