sneak peek: cozy library design

It’s back to business as much as possible here with client meetings, designs, and more. It’s the first time in a while I’ve actually felt like sharing anything, since managing life with reentry, alongside my daughter’s senior year… is a real thing. This design has been in the pipeline for a hot minute, and as we get closer, we thought it would be fun to share a little sneak peek of sorts: a cozy library design!

When this sweet family called us in to check out their mostly unused dining room space, they told us they were looking for something more practical. The walk-through room just wasn’t serving their family and needs very well anymore, and they were ready for something fresh.

They were looking for more of a gathering place for their family, as they’re all big readers. So we put our heads together, and they were game to design a library for their family.

She showed me this art, and told me that green is one of her favorite colors. I said, “Say less.” I love a good inspiration piece to build off of, so this is the design we came up with.

The colors are a little off in this quick, flat rendering. But first things first, they needed bookshelves, and what better way to complement that than a fireplace? It’s kind of imperative that your new library come equipped with a fireplace. We’re also bringing in some Kichler Sconces for ambient lighting throughout the space, adding a magical touch to that library vibe. {They actually have some beautiful art that will work well in the space, but I was using this one as my placeholder if you’re curious.}

The space will also be beautifully trimmed to add lots of great, timeless character, and the large opening into their former dining room was simplified to two glass pocket doors. {The barn door is also a placeholder, above.} We love this Kichler light, like jewelry added to the space for a great, modern contrast and a touch of glam. Stylish comfort was the name of the game with these great selections, from the softness of the swivel chairs to the plushness of the rug underfoot. The wallpaper, of course, is one of my very favorites, a-la Schumacher for another layer of fun. Here’s a better look at the materials, here.

We did a quick site check the other day, and the next step is the trim. Here are those glorious bookshelves so far. We also rather enjoyed closing in that old walkway to allow for more wall space for them in this room.

And here’s the new entryway, before anything else is added, but we love that they will now have the option to close in that space with those fabulous pocket doors.

So this is a little sneak peek of a project we have going on… adding some great character to this space will be so much fun! We hope you’ll stay tuned. Have an inspired day!
