the ethereal collection

This August, I was thrilled to announce this originals collection, as ‘coming soon’. I didn’t even have a title yet, but at the time, I felt I was close enough to share this exciting project I’ve been working on, in my spare time. We can all pause now and laugh at such words as, “spare time”. Because as life often goes, I was derailed by illness + a little bit of crazy stuff, but then a whole lot of wholesome things that I’m grateful for, like college road trips with our senior, fall break with family, running our design business, projects with sweet clients, and more. Sometimes, things happen on their own timeline, and I am definitely at a place in life where I have to be okay with that, as long as I get the chance to do what I love. So today, I am so excited to share the beginning of something I’ve wanted to do for a while: Original art by Ashley Mills! {That’s me.} Because this is just the beginning. 

Just a few things to note: 

This one is called the Ethereal Collection, and it’s a series of 8 original abstract paintings, filled with color and texture. I plan to continue to offer original art in really fun ways, {another collection will be launched this winter} and I’m ecstatic to share this today. 

These are originals, which means they are the actual oil paintings on canvas. We have offered only prints of my work in the past, and these are one-of-a-kind pieces. Each original piece comes in a simple, handmade red oak frame shipped straight to you from us. Be sure to check them all out, here!

We’re also offering prints in limited runs of each original piece, in a few sizes. See them under each section here. I’m sharing info on each individual piece below!

Artist’s note: Because these are abstracts, I want you to be able to position these however you see fit. So each original piece is signed on the back by me. That way, you can play with each piece, and decide where it best fits your space. However, if you order and wish to sign on the front, I am more than happy to oblige. Just let me know! I can’t help but think like a designer for spaces, when it comes to art and how they work together.

Ethereal

Ethereal is the first painting in this series and the piece after which the entire collection is named. I love the combo of soft colors and abstract shapes with undertones that make it feel so tactile. The original piece measures 36 x 36 and feels other-worldly. The details and color are just so happy!

Aura

The official definition of aura is the unique atmosphere that tends to surround and be given off by a person, thing, or place. We felt like the vibe was right on this one. 

This one comes available in 24 x 24 – the perfect, versatile size. The original is also framed and ready to hang.

Radiant 

This painting reminded me a little bit of that glow of stained glass but on canvas. It also feels so illuminating in person; the title felt right.

It measures 24 x 36. The original is framed, and there are a few prints available in a few varied sizes.  Note that this particular painting would be really interesting when turned in various ways – which is my goal as a designer to help you find the right piece for your home. I can’t help but mix the two.

Haze 

Haze is a little understated with more subtle tones and evokes the feeling of peering through something brilliant on a hazy day. It measures 36 x 36, another larger painting to make a bold statement in a space.

Mirage

In this piece, I combined those jewel tones I love so much, mixed with pastels and the contrast of layered, subtle hues with cold wax. This piece combines geometric and organic shapes to make a gorgeous statement on any wall. 18×24 – framed. Also available in other sizes in the shop. 

Beautiful layers of color really make for some awesome combinations on canvas. 

Shimmer

Those sparkles on the water on a gorgeous day, with the sun on your skin.

Spectrum

I really had fun creating this smaller size for the perfect space. It holds plenty of color and packs a big punch, just waiting to be placed in that perfect spot. Measuring 20×20, it comes with a simple frame and more size options in the shop.

Whisper 

A quiet conversation with nuances in color. Those brighter citrus hues combined with the dark undertones are what really make it feel so lovely. I adore that it works in multiple directions. This one is 24×36. More sizes are available in the shop.
