Happy happy Friday, everyone!
Today, I thought I’d share a simple little post with you on easy peasy, seasonal updates for a wreath. I love wreaths. I love how you can replace them all on a whim. I love making them. But to be honest, unless the mood really strikes me, I’m not too keen on replacing one every time a season pops up. Hey everybody! For groundhog day, I totally stuck a groundhog to my wreath! It’s still alive! Go look! That’s a little dramatic. I think you get my point. I’m lazy.
If you remember my post from this fall, you know I shared a how-to for my ruffle wreath. Sometimes I embellish it…sometimes I don’t. But here’s the simple, nerdy truth…It’s been hanging for well over a year…and it’s such a good base whether bare or embellished that I’m just not tired of it yet!
Here’s an additional nerdy truth. Emerson has way too many bows. Why does she have so many? To the point of shameful gluttony in bow world? Besides the fact that she would have that many anyway, because I’m a spaz, southern, and that’s what we do… once upon a time, before I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up {cue embarrassing admission} I got re-heeally excited and I decided to make and sell bows.
That lasted about 2.5 seconds when people were all picky and stuff. ‘Yeah. I like that one, but instead of brown, white, + pink, can you do white, brown + persimmon? Thaaannnkkksss.’ Despite the fact that they had one hundred and fifty already made, perfectly good bows to choose from. It didn’t last long, and I realized I didn’t care about other people’s bows. Only my own child’s. Because, as it turns out, I wasn’t really passionate about bows.
So after Christmas, when I’d embellished said above ruffle wreath with a christmas ornament and some hot glue…I kind of forgot about it until our home was scheduled for an open house a couple of weeks ago. On our way out the door, doing one last sparkling house check so the realtor could take over and play hostess, I spied my mistake of leftover ornamental wreath status, panicked, ripped it off, and then threw some hair bows on to cover up my leftover gluegun spot.
They clipped on easily to the ruffles and I said to myself, “Self. That is one easy peasy update idea.”
I’d like to play it off like I’m coy. And this was planned. But I’m not + it wasn’t. So whether it’s halloween, a football game, spring, valentines, fall, summer, your great aunt visiting from Saskatchewan who prefers the Canadian leaf…these little flowers are a simple way to update your fabulous front door ruffle wreath.
To read more about how I made these lil flowers, click here. They’re simply layers of fabric and felt, stitched and glued together…but this works with any old embellishment you’d like to add. {See my ruffly silk flowers form hobby lobby, in the collage above.} Simply glue a gator clip to the back and you’re golden!
What’s a lazy gal approach you use for decor in your home? I’d love to hear! Happy inspired Friday, everyone!
I love simple genius. Really, what a great idea – especially because half the houses I pass still have their Christmas wreath up, all they have to do is change the clips 🙂
Saving doors everywhere!
This is a really good idea. By the time I make it to the front door to change it, the season is almost over.
I love this wreath, so cute and very modern, plus love the fact that you can add on as the seasons, holidays or Family events unfold.
oh my goodness – absolutely GOR.GE.OUS! stunning! i love the grey background – yum!

Genius! Now off to make the wreath!
Can I just say, first off, you SLAY me. You are hysterical. You write like I think. Love your blog! Second, I have a sad wreath that needs love. Now I know what it’s gonna get! Fun!
haha you’re so sweet jennifer. so glad i could be of service! have fun! ;}
Lovely! Such a great idea!
But, can I just ask…how on earth do you know about Saskatchewan, let alone how to spell it?? -from someone who went to Uni in Saskatchewan for 2 years 🙂
Hey Julie! Not to un-impress you or anything, but I just like the word. It’s so fun! It’s in the Brouhaha and Bamboozled category for me. And I do spellcheck. Believe it or not… ;}
As i live in Saskatchewan’s neighboring province i too was wondering how you knew about it. Thanks for the Canadian shout out of sorts. Lazy home decor, hmmm…the only thing I can think of with my tylenol cold and sinus brain (yucky flu day) has to do with home scents. Whenever I’m making a pie or apple crisp I throw all the apple peelings in a pot of water to simmer on the stove. I add all the spices that I’d put in the pie and a couple cinnamon sticks and voila!! Instant homemade pot pourri that smells amazing and fresh and was free! Just keep an eye on the water level or you’ll be scraping apple peels off your pot for days.
I bought one of your bows one time and wish I had purchased at least 10! I love them. They look great on the wreath.
brill.
that’s short for brilliant.
lol. anyway, super smart and cute.
Love this! I actually made a ruffled wreath in the spring and hot glued a starfish on it for summer. I was looking for a wreath yesterday so I grabbed my trusty ruffled wreath, pulled the starfish on, whipped up a couple white felt flowers, and hot glued them on. Love that it’s interchangeable!
Love this. And I love your blog, such awesome ideas!
I love it. This is exactly what I do! I have a white canvas wreath that I just “dress up” as the season changes.
I’ve been DVRing all of Nate Berkus’s shows, and I was lucky enough to watch the one with your House Proud today! That was 11am. It is now 9pm, and I’m sitting back enjoying my gorgeous wreath and star that I altered a bit after seeing your driftwood version. I ended up using a box top ($2! From Hobby Lobby) instead of cutting out my own, and I wrapped it in left over fabric from my wreath. It will soon become the newest addition to my gallery wall in my dining room. I’m officially your number one fan!! I love all of your ideas! My next goal is to find a welder and recreate your recreated coffee table! Thanks so much for your ideas!
Hey Sam! You are so super sweet to say that! I hope you enjoy your new home additions! ;} Have a happy rest-of-the-weekend! ;}
