Hello lovely readers! If you’re anything like us, you’re gearing up for the super bowl around here, and we’ve been searching for the perfect snacky foods in preparation. We have a little bit of a dip obsession. Some people love chocolate (and well, we love that too) but our vice is absolutely dips… and we know a good one when we taste it.
Lately, however, we’ve been wanting to eat fresh, and we’re kind of obsessed with avocados. In fact, obsessed would be a bit of an understatement. I could slice one open and eat it like a grapefruit. So today we thought we’d share a favorite recipe of ours that we absolutely love, made with our favorite: Avocados from Mexico.
This recipe is authentic, straight from Maneadero, Mexico. You’ll know as soon as it hits your tastebuds. It’s slap your mama good, y’all.
Jamin has traveled to Maneadero with groups often to build homes and provide assistance for the people there, and we couldn’t help but pick up a few of their amazing recipes. Their guacamole is swoon worthy, and these masters were kind enough to share it with us. Here’s what you’ll need:
• 1 Tomato diced
• 1/2 Onion chopped
• Juice of 1 lime
• 1/3 Cup chopped fresh cilantro
• Salt to taste (we prefer kosher.)
{Note: You can add jalapeños to taste if you want it spicy.}
Dice your cilantro, and cut up all your ingredients, depending on how you intend to blend them. We use a food blender. Squeeze out the juice of your lime, and add all your chopped ingredients together.
Place all your ingredients together in a blender or food processor. (If you have neither, that’s fine. Chopping finely enough will still give you the same effect, and you can mash up the avocado with a spoon!)
Blend to a creamy, smooth consistency (and try not to lap it up with your tongue).
This guacamole is our absolute favorite.
This goes wonderfully with carrot sticks, a variety of veggies, corn chips, and is a marvelous topping for hamburgers… perfect for the big game! This is what we love the most about this recipe… its versatility.
Icing on our cake : Two out of three of our super picky natives certainly agreed with a thumbs up.
Emerson just went for the carrot sticks… ;} I’ll take it.
YUM! As always, please let us know if you try it! It’s DELISH!
What are you guys doing for the super bowl? Do you love fresh avocados like we do? Share some of your favorite recipes with us… leave a link! We’d love to hear!
Have an inspired, fun food filled day mis amigos!
My cousin’s wife makes a salad/side dish of chopped celery, green apple and avocado. A little salt and lemon juice, and that’s it. It’s awesome and definitely fits in with the ‘eating fresh’ idea!
I’ve been looking for a home made recipe! So pumped!
Um, this looks totally yummy and doable. I can’t wait to try it out!
Sounds yummy! I’ll have to try it sometime.
Oh, we love some good guac!! I love to roast a couple of cloves of garlic and mash that up first and add it in. That and a dash of green Tabasco plus worshesteshire (how in the world can anyone spell that without looking at the bottle??) take it over the top.
I am obsessed with good dips. Specifically salsa-like dips. And guacamole? Seriously – so good. My husband doesn’t like it, though. I’m ok with making a batch all for myself 🙂
I can’t wait to try this! Go Ravens!
Why hello my new guac recipe! And now i’m going to have a Mexican themed super bowl party!
Awesome! that’s a great idea! I hope it’s a blast! ;}
I’m from the South but went to college in Idaho. I went on a date with some dude to a Mexican restaurant who had some really good salsa. I don’t remember what my entree was, but it was incredible. “This is so good! Makes me wanna slap my mama!” I never realized until that moment that it was a Southern phrase. Needless to say, that Westerner was pretty offended. “Why would you want to slap your mother?” It is extremely difficult to explain that saying. Really difficult. That was our last date. 🙂
Bwah! Obviously he had no sense of humor whatsoever. Consider yourself saved. ;}
Gaucamole is my favorite food. ever
