Last week, we were thrilled to share our bathroom reveal. We both couldn’t be happier to a. have our bathroom back in the form of our own personal spa, and b. not share a tiny hallway one with three little crazy messy people who always cover things in toothpaste and jelly.
But I may or may not have eaten pizza here the other night. Again. While reading. No shame.
This space has made such a huge difference in how I feel about our home. Seriously, it’s amazing what a little love, and a whole lot of beautiful tile and pretty pieces can do for a once kinda ho hum bathroom. {With icky mold growing in the walls… let’s not forget that part} We’re very grateful.
But we’re super thrilled to share the amazing sources today!
The Tile
First up: The tile. It’s from the fabulous Builder Depot. You may remember their beautiful tile from our mantel makeover earlier this summer. We have to brag on them for a second… We’ve never ordered tile online before, and we were kinda newbies to the whole bathroom demo/redo thing. There was something kind of scary about picking things out, without having real life options, side by side… knowing that it would go in the space. Forever. And ever. And ever. Like, cry in the corner of mold, scary.
But they were amazing to work with, and patiently walked us through every single question and issue. I wasn’t sure how the pairing of these tiles would work, and they were more than happy to send photos of the options, side by side. They even gave us their assessment of what works best with their experience. We showed them a photo of our vanity, because the materials on the top {carrara marble} made me nervous. There was no need to be… we felt as though we had our own personal guide to help us through it all. To me, this was priceless and because of that, we’ll recommend these guys to all our friends until we’re blue in the face.
For the floor, we used Carrara Venato 2″ Octagon Polished Mosaic Tile. We wanted something classic with a fun contrast to liven up the space, since we knew we were going with a lot of white. Also, with five people using this bathroom {we’ve tried kicking the kids out into the hallway but to no avail…} it looks pretty all the time. {Be sure to check out all their octagon mosaic options here}
For the walls, we used this gorgeous glass subway tile with a bit of this rope trim for a super subtle polished look. We loved taking that tile all the way up the wall, and feel like it made the space look a lot larger by unifying it all.
And for the floor of the shower + our little shampoo shelf, we used the same stuff we used in our mantel makeover: Carrara Bianco Polished 3″ Hexagon Marble Mosaic Tile.
We ended up pairing it all with a simple light grey grout from our home improvement store, and love love love it.

The Vanity:
We decided that now was the time to get rid of this L-shaped monstrosity that we always hated. It took up most of the bathroom, and offered little storage. (Contrary to the look of it.) This vanity is the Caroline and came from VIRTUUSA. It actually offers more storage space than the first piece we lived with for years.
The thing that makes me the most happy? {Besides the cleaner look, higher counter height awesome drawers, and shelves inside the cabinets for more storage?} The doors don’t. Slam. No. Really. I kind of want to upload a video.
Every now and then I go into the space, and open the door and then try to close it quickly. It gets to a certain point and then closes in slowmo mode. Soft closing doors, y’all. No more slams from little children. Or for that matter, full grown adults. When I’m getting ready for a jog in the mornings and I’m pulling up my hair and I’m one-handed and need to reach in and quickly grab a rubber band, and I’m in a hurry? No loud slamming. See more of their options here.
It’s the little things. True story. Game changer.
Just a few little links of interest: You can read all about how we did our artwork, here. And this little rolling shelf {which actually comes in very handy for that claw foot bathtub and all things bath necessities} is a world market find from a sale they were having, here.
The Shower:
My one request. It truly was. {Okay. Not really. I’m super picky and took my time picking everything ou- But I was willing to wait six more months if it meant getting this glass.} I refused to install all of this beautiful glorious tile, and then have the shower encased with framed glass. I know it sounds high maintenance, but in our last shower, I had no idea what a nightmare it would be to clean something year after year that turned out to be a petrie dish for mildew. No matter how many times you scrub, over time, it happens. I get that you do what you do and you deal with what you have. But my shower had been ripped out and I was determined to wait. {Not to mention, the design aesthetic of a frameless shower with a classic tub = my fave.} So we waited. And waited. And waited. Until we found the very best. A true lesson learned in waiting for quality with great people.
The very best part? These amazing people, All Sides Glass, have a website. Where you can order online with super fair prices. Honest people and wonderful resources. They’re great to work with, and worth it in the middle of a huge redo that will make your head spin.
Our shower faucet was given to us by the wonderful people of Delta when we were able to tour their awesome design facilities last year. We were holding on to it all this time. It’s the two in one shower arm and it’s amazing.
Sing in the shower, amazing.
The Tub:
We found it online at this fabulous company, Vintage Tub & Bath. It makes bathing the kiddos super easy. The faucet alone rocks my face off. The entire thing is porcelain, so when it warms up, it stays that way for a while. And again, the whole pizza thing.
If only they made waterproof laptops…
I’m a mermaid. With prune fingers.
Jamin has learned to stop looking for me every night when the kids are put to bed. I’m suddenly three again, and it’s my bedtime routine.
Here’s where we made our towel rack, and the towels and rug are from here.
The Lights
We ended up taking down those old vanity lights, and bringing in some real personality similar to these little gems from Lamps Plus.
Since we didn’t want to burn the house down, we hired an electrician, and added a chandelier on the other side. It always drove me crazy that this bathroom came without an additional light, so we added one. Lighting is sometimes the most forgotten resource and it adds so much more.
The chandelier is similar to the one in our living room, also from the fabulous Lamps Plus. We love love love them for lights and great fun selections!
You can read all about how to make little frames like this in our book, Handmade Walls
And we have a few tutorials coming soon for some of these little projects.
Check out our original reveal, here – and let us know if you have more specific q’s – we’ll do our best to answer in comments or address them in a separate post! Have an inspired day!

I love what you’ve done Ashley! The tile is beautiful and the frameless shower door is divine! In my last house, we remodeled the bathroom and also did a frameless door, it really made the room. Then we moved and that’s what I miss most about that house – the shower. http://emmamariedesigns.blogspot.com/2013/08/master-bedroom-and-bathroom-tour.html?m=1

I totally agree with you about the framed glass shower icky-ness. I have been driving myself crazy with it, and I was beginning to think there was no way to have the perfect shower solution. Is the frameless glass really the solution to this problem? Obviously, you don’t have the issue with the yuck factor now, but what sold you on frameless? Is there no caulking? We are in the planning stage for building a new house, and I have been totally stumped about the best shower scenario.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey girl! I think that no actual doors is probably a solution to the problem. Ha! But I knew that visually it was more appealing to us & that we had so many issues with our framed shower and all the built up gunk that this should help. Also, this is real glass. Our last one was a gunked up plexiglass kind of thing and the film just never came up along with all the mildew that built up on all the edges of the metal no matter how hard I scrubbed. I did some research, read up & asked around. This is better because it does cut down, and it’s just less visual clutter to me. Again, until I can have my own personal slew of cleaning leprechauns, nothing is perfect. But it sure is amazing 🙂 we are kind of in love.

Too funny that you recommended no doors – because that is exactly what I have been toying with. I have been driven to the anti-door point in dealing with all of the above mentioned probs you have encountered. I love the look of the seamless glass, so I certainly won’t rule it out. Your shower is beautiful – you should be in love!!

LOVE IT!! You did a great job in this room- a real haven for relaxation! 🙂 I’ve been looking for new lights so thank you for that info 🙂 One question – wall paint colour? 🙂 Thanks 🙂
ashley @ the handmade home says
Ahhhh! ::face palm:: I can’t believe I left that out! Benjamin Moore’s Lake Victoria 🙂
Hyedi says
I was dying to also know the paint color and I have been searching for an hour cuz I thought I missed it.
Thank you Ashley!

Wow, gorgeous job! I think you were right to wait for the glass walls for the shower. It looks so sleek and modern. As you mentioned in your post, glass enclosed shower doors are a nightmare to clean and I don’t believe there is any substance known to mankind that will get rid of the crud that grows on them. Thanks for sharing your work. You should be very proud of the fabulous job you both did!

Dana says
Love it, Ashley! How big is your tub/shower area? I’m wondering if we have enough room in our bathroom to do something like this. Thanks!
denos says
I have the same ? on the size….. I am going crazy trying to figure out if we have the space in our bath to get the tub and shower in.
ashley @ the handmade home says
Hey Denos! You can change your orders for your shower and tub to fit, as they come in different sizes, but our bathroom on that side is 104 inches wide. I hope that helps!
Meinhilde says
I love your choices for the tile…absolutely stunning!

Your bathroom looks great! I am interested in more information about the shelves that are over the toilet. That glass was definitely worth the wait!

I can live in your bathroom! It is absolutely AMAZING!!!
