If you guys have been tuning in for a while, then you know that once upon a time, we built a full on cabana in our backyard.
It’s been a game changer for entertaining, and just for us in general. It was definitely a highlight to staying at home, since we were able to take this project on. Our kids love it for hosting their own friends, we love it for quiet nights, and even football season and beyond.
We even included a series this spring, if anyone wants to take on something similar in their own yard. But someone asked us on social media the other day, if there were any changes since then, we’ve made that we’ve seen as worth it, in this space. And today we thought we’d include a little round up of sorts, to include a few of our faves.
We’ve come a long way from that before!
Ew, David.
1. Cabana Changes We Love: Plugs
This may sound silly, but we’re slowly but surely adding them in practical places. This spot in particular is perfect for charging stations. Jamin tends to take over this spot in the fall for football, and it’s a great, practical addition.
We also use this space as a writer’s escape when the weather permits, so it’s nice to have a charging option for all things laptops, and beyond.
2. Cabana Changes We Love: Pool Supply Storage
When we finished off the cabana, we were so exhausted, we decided to wait to finish off the shelving inside. I guess we were just pumped to start using it, and were totally over all things construction since this was no small undertaking. Then this spring, we finished off the closet. Once we did, it was a total game changer.
We have room for pool chemicals, cleaners, supplies, toys, towels, floats, and so much more.
A place or everything and everything in it’s place, the cabana closet has freed up room for our home on the inside. We were also able to include a much-needed charging station for cordless tools, lanterns, and well… the possibilities are kinda endless.
We love having this practical side. Not only is it a great spot for entertaining and more, it’s perfect for real life, and functional storage.
We’ve also added blankets for cooler weather, supplies for al fresco dining, and extra pillows for game and movie nights. Having everything at our fingertips just makes so much more sense. See all those details, here!
3. Cabana Changes We Love: the Move Speaker
Silly, but true. We’ve added a little Move speaker to our poolside antics, because they are great, wireless connectors. It charges here, but makes so much more sense for teens to gather with access to music when entertaining. This entire space is actually really great for them, and all things hosting their friends.
Game changer/side note: I’m an Apple Music family plan gal, and I was having trouble connecting through their app. It wanted me to use Spotify and limited what I could access. The app also kept updating over and over again, which was frustrating. This is a total old lady moment, but our friends rocked my world when they showed me how to simply connect to said speakers, wirelessly from your iphone. WHAT. Easy peasy, and it’s my NEW FAVORITE THING.
I also recently realized that I can make playlists ON my phone so that’s a little embarrassing but also totally exciting, so I’m sharing that here, too. The possibilities are ENDLESS. And our kids now fight with me over what’s playing on the speakers, though I just introduced the oldest to Wheezer and he approves…
We hope this helps answer any questions… it’s definitely little changes we’ve made that have made it oh so fun. Again, see our original cabana post here, + the entire series on building it, here.
Let us know if you have any questions, and have an inspired day!
