We adore our cabana in the summer. Honestly, it’s been a little escape for so long, from Covid {when we built the thing} to this construction crazy world at our house, it’s been a sweet reprieve from reality for a while now.
Recently, we made a little addition to the cabana that we adore, and can’t believe we didn’t do it sooner: outdoor curtains. Today, we’re sharing an easy outdoor curtain solution, that’s tried and true. SO tried and true, I don’t know why it took us so long to do it here.
And today we thought we’d share our combo for said curtains, because it’s just so easy, we thought everyone should know.
We think the look just cozies it up.
Over the last two years, we realized things were starting to fade on the inside. Depending on the time of year, in the afternoon, the cabana gets some intense sunlight shining right in. It’s kind of a pain when entertaining, and even more so, for our rug that I’m absolutely obsessed with. I had to hunt it down again, swearing to protect it even more this time. And also holding on to the older one when kids come over because soda spills. Yes I found a way to have my cake and eat it too. Get two cakes. I’m over 40 and life is hard and I really like this rug. I can have two cakes.
As you can see, the colors had quickly gone from a fun magenta and aqua to well… LSU. Nothing against LSU because some of our besties went there, it just wasn’t what I was going for. Also Aubie is cuter. Even if we’re just a basketball school now. War Eagle.
Jamin is a big fan for his fall football too, as the sun is no longer right in his face, and it should also keep things warmer in those cold months. It’s amazing what a simple layer of curtains can do.
So I thought I’d share a simple way to hang some outdoor curtains, because game changer. Especially over a long span of space. Hardware can be expensive and fussy. This doesn’t have to be. Here’s what you’ll need:
• Curtains that fit your space. Again, ours is a very long space, so I went for these. – They come in a variety of options. If they come too long for what you need, I recommend iron-on hem tape. I’m also lazy busy, so I let mine puddle a bit.
• Tiebacks never hurt.
• Copper pipes in two different circumferences so that they fit inside each other according to what you need.
• Eye hooks {about 1 inch depending on what size pipe you purchase} + copper spray paint
• A pipe cutter, if necessary
Spray paint your eye hooks – I did this project in the winter, and JUST got around to hanging them – yes I really am that tired – And have your pipes ready.
Place and hang! It’s that easy. I use one eye hook on each end, and then one in the middle so that it doesn’t sag. I place one pipe inside the other just like you would with window hardware, and then into the curtains. TADA! You’re done.
Our OG readers may remember us sharing this before. It just never gets old.
It’s just a simple little fixture and I love that copper look. Because why not.
See my lazy puddle fix? I may come back and adjust, but aintnobodygottimeforthat right now. Laundry kind of takes priority. And by laundry I mean kids and work and then fifty other things and then laundry. THEN hem tape.
Here’s a simple view from the outside on a hot summer morning. By the afternoon, the sun shines right in. Now we can protect what’s on the inside, and the kiddos think it’s pretty cool, too. It definitely helps with movies.
And our Kichler fan helps keep things cool!
We hope you enjoyed this simple outdoor fix.
You can use this combo on any porch. We’ve even used it inside before.
As always, let us know if you have any questions.
Have an inspired day!
Wow what a difference the sun made on your gorgeous rug! Glad you could get another and it wasn’t discontinued as sometimes happens. Yes, no LSU colors allowed-War Eagle!! As Coach Pearl says Auburn is an EVERYTHING school- we had fun watching basketball and gymnastics! We put curtains on our gazebo using a galvanized pipe as the rod- works great and won’t bend in the middle. Love your tiebacks too!
So true, Barbara! Thanks so much for your kind comments. War Eagle! ;}
Great idea and not just cosy but practical too! Are the doors and side windows glass or just screens? Cracks me up that you bought another identical rug!
Hey! They’re screen. So it should help insulation in the milder winter months as well, when we bust out the space heaters. Yes! I loved that rug! ;}
Amazing Information.
I also have a home decor page with the name “Rustic Illusion”.
Rustic Illusion is a homegrown brand, which came into existence because of my love for Indian heritage and crafts.
